Looks like BioWare are committing to the non sexualised, not traditionally attractive female characters thing they started in Inquisition.

 I'm all for that approach when it doesn't pertain to the species that was specifically inspired by exotic space babes. I never asked for some blue kid with a scrunched up baby fat face. Hell, I just wanted my squadmates to wear armor into battle instead of spandex and high heels. The sexualization problem with the sequels wasn't with the characters facial features....it was with their attire.

The fact that they were inspired by exotic space babes doesn't mean that every single one of them should fit that criteria. In the original trilogy not every was beautiful or attractive. There's nothing obligating them to make the asari squadmate or hypothetical LI fit that criteria. She's not going to be the only LI, if she'll ever be one. I don't find her attractive, and that's fine. It doesn't mean that all the asari in Andromeda will look like her. And considering how much Cassandra and Morrigan changed since the first trailer, there are chances the asari will change as well.

I do agree on your opinion about battle armour though.

As much as i love me some booty, i'll have to agree with this. We should keep this [shittake] realistic for everyone. Because if i was a commander, the last thing i'd want to see would be some greatly molded ass, in the middle of combat. Good way to break some wood, when smores aren't even an option.

I would be incredibly pleased if BW went with interesting character design over "every lady in the game must meet the dudebro standard of generic hotness". One of my favorite things about Inquisition was that so many of the female characters had visible flaws and realistic quirks that made them visually distinctive instead of twenty flavors of Playboy playmate.

Sincere query: Do you also hope that male characters are designed with similar flaws and imperfections, and that as a result the male LIs aren't physically a type that people who are attracted to men would generally find hot?

As far back as ME1 and DA:O there have been some complaints about female characters being sexualized. Some of those complaints had merit, for example the bikini armor worn by Dalish women, the gratuitous camera angles with Miranda, or bust size increasing for female companion characters with each game. They were all legitimate problems that shouldn't be repeated in future Bioware games.

That said, some people also had a tendency to go too far with those complaints and equate any attractive female character as being sexualized or designed with a male gaze. There was also a fair amount of hypocrisy on these forums and Tumblr, in that some of the loudest voices who went too far with their criticism of attractive female characters were posting shirtless fan art of Kaidan or campaigning for Cullen to be a LI, because he was oh so dreamy.

I'd still disagree with anyone arguing that all the female LIs need to be designed to look like average people, but I can respect their opinion if they're not arguing for some sort of double standard.

Oh god....this is amazing. Sooo, the MRA's are butthurt because the presumed blue video game waifu apparently isn't pretty enough to serve as effective wish fulfillment in their sad, sexless lives. After all, being effective fapbait is the primary....no, the only reason female characters have for existing amirite?

Yet another victory for the Feminazis. The Menocide is imminent.

Umm.. I thought she was cute and realistic (except for overly huge round eyes). Is it because she didn't wear makeup other than the smear over her eyes? What next? A mod to give her darker eye makeup and black lipstick to look vixen-like?

She has a very round face, and games very rarely use that look. Also, often when they use a round face they also have hair - usually longer hair. A bit of a chubby face with want amounts to a bald hair cut is really unconventional for women - and it's pretty unconventional for men too. At least the athletic type.

It's always angular and very chiseled as a face - sharp cheekbones and such. Liara is a bit of an exception in that regard but even her face isn't round. And it's really not common to see this type of round face on a thin athletic build. It's a bit like the guy who plays Oliver Queen in Arrow - he's got a very round face for how cut he is actually.

I think Miranda Lawson is a case of a character having a round or square face but with long hair;

I think that was why I was surprised with the amount of people who disparaged Cassandra Pentaghast's face because of her facial shape but did not have the same opinion of Miranda Lawson's facial shape;

and we likely won't in this game, but if we do I'm sure there will be crying about the females having an insufficient waist/hip ratio or some other hilarious garbage. I can't wait.

Well, all the cool kids think Garrus is hot and it sure isn't his looks.

Fooooooor most of us. There's also Iron Bull, who's not really a cutie, old-ass Blackwall, and unwashed hobo-face Anders. I think the take home lesson is that the right voice and personality will make up for being a weird cat dinosaur birdman or the tiniest head and gnarliest scars. I mean, Nathaniel Howe is still my gold standard for Bioware hotness, and he's not going to be winning any Mr. America pageants.

Granted, I don't think the new Asari is drop-dead gorgeous, but assuming she's a romance option, maybe she'll be really charming. Y'all went for Tali without knowing if she was made of spiders, after all.

Took me awhile to figure out how I feel about this probable squad member.

Her face looks strange for an Asari, no question about it. And as a character or a person she might be attractive despite her face,

certainly not because of it. I guess I'll keep an open mind, Cassandra wasn't a pretty face either but had an interesting personality.

More than anything though, I'm disappointed that we probably won't have a badass Asari like Tela Vasir or Aethyta as a squad member,

she simply looks too goofy to even be close to this archetype.

While you are not wrong completely, males and females are attracted to different qualities, and most of the romance options you mentioned are intended for female or gay male audience, that hardly proves anything in regards to what the average straight male finds attractive.

Yeah, but I was responding to a comment about whether or not girls/guys who like guys would love someone that isn't conventionally attractive.

And I know Aric Jorgan has some fangirls, so ...Yea. That being said, Ollie the Asari looks super young to me, so I wouldn't be convinced that she's a love interest, or even supposed to be an adult. Who knows? We'll figure more out as we go.

She doesn't look young necessarily, she looks goofy, and strange. And if she is a squadmate I doubt she too young anyway, no matter her looks.

She's adorable! I love that she doesn't look like she just walked from a fashion magazine photoshoot like most Asari we've seen.

From the few seconds we see of her, I feel like her personality will be more quirky and goofy, which is great! We've already had damsel-in-distress-scientist-turned-into-badass-chick Liara and ruthless-and-cold-but-noble-warrior Samara so it makes sense they would try to give her a distinct personality from our previous Asari squadmates.

Can we get rid of the eyebrows tho?
