You do realize we are talking about a fictional character in a video game?  :P

People take this stuff way too seriously.

I see you're also more interested in off topic discussion than in the topic of this thread. It'd be nice if people didn't recycle posts at least. If I had known people would be so interested in having this discussion, I'd have made a thread.

Also, I'd like to point out that is simply not constructive criticism. Instead of being like "She ugly!!11!!", it'd be nice if people actually said what's wrong with the design. The thing with the eyebrows is a good point, for example.

Yet also, do all characters have to look like from a magazine? We know next to nothing about this character, yet some people have already made their mind because it's most important that she is pretty. So, yeah, that seems shallow to me. Can we maybe discuss the topic now?

Very ugly indeed, 'she' looks like a man.

The face textures are beautiful!

She seems young, for an Asari, cute in a not-attractive way.

But I'm simply not attracted to Asari because of the hair tentacle thing.

Eyebrows or no eyebrows, cute or not cute, she has this on her side:

Actually good animation. For a change.

No, I just don't think it's nice for someone to say people have ugly personalities simply for finding a fictional video game character ugly

I guess I could share my opinion... I just really didn't find it worth discussing.

The Asari that was shown looks more male to me, which I don't really care for. I don't see why they needed to change the look of them so dramatically. They were perfectly fine the way they were before. Maybe this Asari is different though? She seems cute in a playful and innocent kind of way. Reminds me of Merrill from Dragon Age 2, like someone else mentioned. The eyebrows don't bother me and I didn't even really notice them.

Men are very ugly, you're right.   ;)

Sarcasm aside, I of course take issue with the eyebrows...and there's something else that feels off about this asari's face.  Maybe it's the size of the eyes in relation to the deep color of face paint around them?  I don't know.

But I'm sort of glad, as it makes her look genuinely alien (or as alien as the original concept for asari allows), as opposed to a blue, hairless human.  So do we want a conventionally attractive alien that looks human, or something that looks alien but isn't necessarily what we might find attractive?

Maybe they're taking the "monogendered" thing to its logical conclusion and manifesting some vaguely male-ish appearance quirks instead of just playing the asari off as a race of idealized blue space vixens?

The human girl's face in the end does look disproportionate too. Kinda animesque. I guess its the new design. Although I thought she look more like an elf.. hence most comparison with Sera..

Oh, no. Humans absolutely must be proportionate.

There's also a possibility we haven't quite addressed yet:

They might just want her to have Liara-esque eyebrows but haven't textured them out yet, and have substituted stock eyebrows in the meantime. We might just be overanalyzing something that's just a placeholder.

Fair enough. I might have been harsh, I admit. I just felt a lot of it was quite uncalled for with no reasons given. Either way, I'll take it out before it causes more hard feelings. I'm not interested in having the same argument again. I appreciate being able to talk like adults, btw. Thanks for that.

As far as the change in style goes, it might be that the graphics are a lot more realistic now than they were in ME3? Maybe it's just me, but I always find that each BW game looks completely different, even within the same franchise. I did notice the eyebrows, though. That surprised me. Then I remembered that Liara and Benezia had eyebrows, too, even if painted on or something.

I've not seen the trailers. I regard MEA as a AU. If the above is an asari. One word : ugly. From the image alone, I'm not impressed nor inclined to pick up the bits of what the game is about.

They have only showed us a couple of minutes of footage. Things can still change but I don't think they would be using placeholders in the trailer.

I think they should get rid of the eyebrows. Asari should be made to look more alien if anything, not more human.

She's wearing armor, but somehow, also has a native style to her. Are we even sure she was one of the colonists from the Milky Way rather than hailing from Andromeda herself?

It would make sense.

I didn't mind the Asari being blue space vixens though  :D

My favorite looking Asari has always been councilor Tevos. She was beautiful, intelligent and strong  <3

It would not be the first time that a game company has used placeholder textures in a trailer or in pre-release material, it just tends to go unnoticed a lot of the time because it's not super-different from the final product.

I wanted to start a drinking game for each time a person will call this asari or all the other female characters in MEA ugly or males, but I realized I'd ruin my liver in a few months.

I wouldn't say she's attractive, at least for me, but people's exaggerations make me laugh. This will be a fun ride.

I'd agree on removing the eyebrows or make them closer to what Liara had, but it's not that big deal. Hopefully they won't retcon any lore about this, but to be honest there might be biggere problems in the lore departments for those who care.

Man, this forum must be full of models or something. The Asari looked alright to me and way better than any face from the previous gen games.

Maybe they always had eyebrows. We just couldn't see them because of graphics.

Maybe asari developed eyebrows over the course of a hundred or so years of repeated human reproduction cycles.
