The Art of the MEU book.

"To add a familiar element of science-fictional fantasy, we decided one of the main species in Mass Effect would be a race of beautiful, blue alien girls. An extensive exploration of the idea led to the asari appearing exotic and alien while still having some human qualities, which allowed them to be desirable as potential love interests. The original inspiration for the scalp tentacles was to evoke the image of a woman emerging from the water with her hair swept back.

Asari clothing was to be alluring and sexy but with a sense of class and style -- more of a Hollywood red-carpet feel than that of a stripper (except for the asari who were, in fact, strippers). Once we established the general look of the asari, we examined the fine details, like scalp tentacles."

They failed then, since not every asari in the original trilogy was beautiful.

Heh, but when you put on the mystery drink goggles, all of them were 10's.

Still doesn't mean they all should be conventionally attractive, as indeed, many of the asari in the franchise aren't. Plenty are very plain-looking. I wouldn't go so far to say that any of them were 'ugly', but then most of the human-looking characters in ME are attractive on some level, either from a having a very fit body or attractive facial structure.

Either way, it's still shallow as hell to nitpick the face of a fictional character on looks alone. A hairless alien having eyebrows, problem. That same alien having a facial structure that apparently upset people? Get the hell out.

It looks like someone face-swaped an Asari and a dude on one of those weird apps that people use for some reason.

Yes. If you gave him a shave, trimmed the eyebrows and made it more purple it would look exactly the same.

Call it whatever you want. Humans are sexual creatures. She looks like a blue teletubby with a skidmark on her face.  We can only judge what little Bioware decided to show us.

Fine. I'd call it "sad" or "pathetic".

Real human women exist. Go find one you like instead of nerd raging about video game waifus not meeting the needs for your virtual sexual wish fulfillment.

Oh aren't you cool. I'd call that a sad pathetic attempt at an insult. Jumping in with absolutely zero context. You look foolish. Judging me on nothing more than my impression of a virtual character. All we have to go on is her face. So I judged her face. Saying she looks like the awkward teenager/ugly duckling next door is a simple observation. Not nerd rage. No sweat to me. I don't need to romance her. The only rage I see seems to be coming from those people quick to insult those that are critical of anything in the trailer and this particular asari. People such as yourself.

Oh "real women" exist....you don't say? Seems it's always the virgins coming with that crap. Take your own advice, get off the computer and socialize with someone, because the merits in which you choose to attack people here make you look quite silly from where I'm sitting.

And I'd call all this ranting defensive. Struck a nerve did I?

So you think the asari is "ugly"? It's a video game. Deal with it.

this still remains your opinion on her. i dont understand how ppl opt to state their opinions like written-in-stone facts.

also humans arent solely sexual creatures. we are social creatures. "social" encompasses love hate and every emotion transmittable through socialising.

The fact of the matter is, kaweebo asked for a source of some information. I provided that source. And then you come at me with your lousy hostility out of left field. You need a hug.

You've been defensive from the start bud. You don't like my feedback? It's a forum. Deal with it.

I'm definitely in the camp that's puzzled by the idea that finding a character unattractive is cause for some kind of negative feedback.

While I understand appreciating beauty, I don't seen anything wrong with including ugly characters as well as pretty ones. Lots of storytellers do it on purpose, even before it was cool.

This is a forum where people post their opinions. I never stated anything like it was "written in stone". That's your own interpretation.

Yeah. Right. I guess I missed that part where I denied they were any of those things. Of course, her face doesn't evoke every emotion transmitable through socializing  (for me, at least) because it's just a damn face.

Since we all have different tastes, I think it's nice when media creators include characters who don't meet that "universally considered attractive" standard. They can cater to a wider variety of tastes that way.
