I get that. What I meant was if you played as a man the only good looking LI was Dorian. Loved the characters though. Cassandra mostly.

Oh. Well I agree. I'm also straight-so my first play through is supposed to mimic me, and my character just went single. (Wasn't basing purely off their looks, don't worry( No shame in that-I don't think I really feel like each play needs a love plot.

That's similar reasons to why I praised me3? And I wasn't saying a person is excessive, but that, hypothetically, 4/4 is excessive. It's nowhere near accurate.
80/100 probably isn't either.

Don't really get why it's that upsetting. But I am open to an actual discussion of someone is sincerely offended by me saying that, then I'll listen.

But with how the comment has been skewed, overblown, and mocked, I'm really not learning much about other people's opinions. Don't get how mockery is supposed to make society progressive, but it really is all I see online.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but on the Internet, someone claiming that diversity is "unrealistic" is usually just a response to having any diversity at all when a person is just a little too tactful to jump immediately to "those evil SJWs are taking over videogaaaames" so forgive me if I misinterpreted what you actually meant.

Why the **** would people want to play a trans character ? Man wtf is wrong with people these days.

This may surprise you, but some trans people play video games and would like to play as themselves.

Obviously, people just want to make you squirm by doing things you don't like. That's why some people claim not to like videogames: just to make you question why they do something else instead.

Alternately, because the world doesn't care what grosses NabilN7 out.

DAI toons weren't all GLBT- Cassandra, Blackwall, Cullen, Varric, Vivienne, and Solas are all (ostensibly) straight. Vivienne and Cassandra are the only ones among that group who are POC (even if Cass is much lighter than her DA2 version).

If there are 7 companions and they want to offer players of all orientations a choice between two available LIs, then at least four of them will need to be LGBT. If it was a situation like DA2, where there are only four love interests in the main game, then making them all bisexual is the only way for those choices to be available.

Cassandra is not a POC.

POC = Person Of Color, as opposed to a white person.

In case you haven't noticed, Cassandra's kinda obviously brownish.

-that's true, but for mass effect 2, there was an entire stage.

-Not really excessive in the past. It's a worry, only because the rapid jumps. Dragon age has some light characters, cool. Dragon age 2 has all Love Interests become bisexual because....because. Dragon age Inquisition had almost every other character be lgbt, which if fine it doesn't really harm the game, but it was confusing, as it doesn't seem accurate to real life (proportionally)

-from leaks and rumors I've heard, and because gamers seem to be drifting towards multiplayer games-and mass effect 3 locked off the best ending for single player only (at first)

-Maybe, there isn't a need at all. But I don't think they will (no reason to think this)

The nice thing about playing fantasy or sci-fi games is that they don't have to be completely realistic. Like, who looks at a world with squid people and dinosaur dudes and instant space travel and think "yeah... that one lesbian is really unrealistic". When you present a world with minimal or nonexistent homophobia, a lot more people will out and open. Compared to my own life, the games were actually pretty realistic. The only game that had 'all' bisexual characters was DA2 (which still had Varric and Aveline who were straight).

Brown enough that white people wouldn't think of her as white, though. It's a shade that's distinctly not a tan; it's a natural skin tone. The thing about people of color is that sometimes they don't have a particularly dark tone of whatever color they are.

yeah it seems "someone, whoever" has to find a new home for humanity, so i guess that is the quest.

But i do share your concern a bit about so much mention of exploration , and new worlds ( how about new people ??)

So what kind of story could be built on that ? " Hi darling did you find some new worlds today? "

Therefore that also implies lots of exploration and encounters of the worst kind.

I'm sure in the midst of a battle we'll be compelled to pick up some elfroot and eezo too .

But starting with a clean slate, there is potential for a good story, but it  requires talented writers ...so let's hope .  .

" You know, i've never been to Andromeda !"

"I was born in Andromeda"... " ...really?? "

And let's throw in a rogue human faction,i mean some are bound to disagree with " someone, whoever" ..  :P

ah, and there is no such thing as too much multiplayer.  ^_^

oh yea...

i can imagine how that conversation goes down:

Lieutenant/LI 1: "Commander, about that cerberus squad that sneaked aboard the ark just before take off?"

Commander: "...the what now?"

Lieutenant/LI 1: "The cerberus personnel who hid themselves in the emergency cryo pods before take off. Didnt someone mention this to you?"

Commander: "....noooo. But go on, this new galaxy is already surprising me in ways i cant imagine."

Lieutenant/LI 1: "They escaped custody in the holding area. Now they're missing."

Commander: "...I think i wanna go home already...sigh...god-damn-it."

I took the question more as "why be trans?"
In the video game, you portray yourself, but if trans people are the opposite sex of their body, why not just make your avatar the opposite body of yours?

(Though I still understand if people just want their character to be as much like them as possible, so they may choose to make their character also in the wrong body)

Here's the thing: a trans person may also want to see a character who lives with the same things they do overcoming the stuff that pop culture usually reserves for the sexy straight white Hollywood action hero/heroine archetype. It's not exactly the most encouraging thing to only ever see yourself portrayed as an oddity or a background element. That's a principle that applies to everyone of every gender, race, ethnicity, and orientation. A game that lets you create your own character becomes an obvious opportunity to ignore the norms of pop culture and just make whatever protagonist you damn well please; for people who hardly see themselves portrayed in a leading role (or at all), "playing as yourself" can be a pretty big change.

I honestly thought of her as white.

I thought of her as a brown woman in a world that doesn't have the same ethnic origins as Earth. So, "not white" but only in the sense that Jade from Beyond Good & Evil was. My impression was probably influenced by her skin tone being more pronounced when I first saw her in DA2, of course, but most every image I find online of her in either game makes it hard to see her as "white."

This thread makes for an interesting read. Getting on to the concerns surrounding the game and the exploration angle. It may not be so bad. I think it opens the possibilities up and as was mentioned BioWare is not usually so forthcoming in their storylines pre release anyway.

I like having the LI options regardless I think they can add depth to a story and, well, people are who they are regardless of societies hang ups (more power too them). Some of us even like ourselves and find it more interesting to see ourselves in the story than create an ideal that we think would fit the traditional hero. There should be more of us.

Last attempts at any kind of multiplayer for ME were failures and the exclusion of competitive multiplayer in this regard I think is a good thing. I would love the addition of cooperative game play, this is were I start getting booed, I have a love/hate relationship with Bungie's Destiny (as I am sure many of you may be in the closet about) but if BioWare can weave there story telling prowess with that style of cooperative play I think I would spend a few years and a few bucks on this game as well.

As for a fear, I think they will try to have a large scale coop game that if it does not integrate well, with the story telling, will epically fail. A fear I think is validated by the overwhelming popularity of games like Destiny, and several other MMOs. To ignore that and not include something in that area could result in a much smaller demographic for them. It may miss corporate financial goals that will limit future projects. They have to play for the blockbuster to live up to their previous titles and the industry in large part has moved on to coop interactive experiences for, as someone else commented and I'm sure I miss quote, "weirdos with friends."

****, now I want to play a trans character just because it makes people like you uncomfortable.

Spite. One hell of a motivator.

My only vague worry is about trailers showing content that won't be in the final product.

Other than that, there is nothing to fear. Either they make a game that appeals to me, then I'll buy it. Or they won't and I won't.

So far it's a coin toss.

I'm at a point where I think the story will suck.  Way too much exploration talk for me to believe they have a well crafted story in place.  Companies focus on what they think will sell so at this point I highly doubt it's the story.

Biggest fear: Soft physics that forgets about hair and clothing that should react to wind blowing. Is the Frostbite engine even capable of this? Somehow, I wish EA had gone with Source 2 engine...

I always thought of her as sort of a Mediterranean complexion, like Italian or Greek, which is pretty much considered "white" where I'm from. Of course, historically that wasn't always so (same for the Irish, which make up a significant chunk of my ancestors), so I guess take that as you will. (There was supposed to be a thoughtful emoticon here, somehow he didn't make it.)

Edit: I guess that starts to get into some sociological territory, as in race/ethnicity vs. literal skin color.

I wouldn't mind trans characters, but only if they're not preachy about it. The option when talking about Krem is basically gearing you to be ignorant so that you could be preached tolerance by Iron Bull then Dorian's gay storyline. They intentionally didn't make Solas a bi option because he may be seen as a villain It seems like they see the characters for their sexuality first rather than treating them as characters. DAI was going about it the wrong way. MEA hopefully will just treat storyline and characters more organically and make sidequests more relevant and interesting and self contained stories in itself instead of fetch quests over and over again. This is all I hope for.
