"The idea for now, though, is that BioWare wants fans to guess, to scour trailers for clues, to keep them hungry for details. BioWare knows whenAndromeda takes place, for example, but they want to be vague about it publicly. “I think it’s fair to say that with even the most creative scientific advancements, it’s hundreds of years to travel to Andromeda,” Walters said. “So that should give you some sense of how far in the future it might be.”"

THIS IS NOT HOW YOU CELEBRATE A GAME! I really do see this as taking advantage of the audience as developers hide in the safety of ignominy.

Why not show what the game really has to offer instead of this - shoveled together drek.

Bioware, you are not the darlings of 2011 anymore. WORK HARDER PLEASE.

EDIT----

Come now, it's not about feeling disenfranchised or that these guys "owe us" it's just comparing their advertsing models with those of other major game IP's I really think they are missing the mark.

The things that I love, purely adore, and the things that cause people like us to put on Tattoos with Wrex on our bodies is the soul of this game.

The feeling of immersion. The true feeling of understanding something about our humanity through the lens of xenophobia or Jingoism.

NOT ****** LAND SHIPS AND BOUNCING BIOTICS!

It's just making everyone go insane man. People are saying crazy things like we leave AFTER the reaper war or its a reboot. One trailer and everybody loses their minds making assumptions.

I disagree. If they really gave us clues to figure things out from the trailers, that would be pretty awesome. There is already lots of discussion about it and it gives us something to talk about. However I would feel betrayed if they didn't really have a proper answer and it turns out to be a handwave.

BioWare has already stated they wanted to copy BGS' approach of not revealing any details until right before release. They are purposely not telling us anything because they don't want us to wait almost a year to play the game. It's an admirable approach but knowing about the game for so many years already is really what is disappointing.

They have. Hell, three words from the trailer---"We made it."---bears a ton of implications.

Yes, BioWare, we don't like surprises. Spoil everything, like a good little Hollywood drone-studio.

Look at all the people dissecting that trailer (there are at least 5-10 threads in this forum alone doing breakdowns and speculation).

There are 5 videos in my subscription feed alone with people breaking things down looking for hints, clues and Easter eggs.

They are feeding the media and fanbase just enough breadcrumbs making people wonder what is happening, where it's happening and when.

People are eating it up.

You may not like it but that small piece of information they released is really making the rounds.

Plus who knows what will be announced tomorrow and during E3 proper.

yeah I agree, I am not sure what the problem is with that statement. If anything it re-affirms what I said earlier about no one ever being happy with what they get.

Lots of speculation from everyone

Walters really has evolved in these 4 years. I find myself utterly thrilled by this innovative teasing.

Hard to be interested in the game if they show nothing about it.

Bioware isn't popular like bethesda or cd projekt red, if they try to be so secretive about their game, most people will just not care about it.

Honestly I think there would have been an equally negative response to what BioWare did at this E3, it just would have been different people.  If they showed five minutes of gameplay there would have been complaints about how they didn't focus on other areas of the game.  If they showed aspects of the story there would be the complaints about spoiling the game.  If they didn't show anything there would be the complaints about hiding the game.

Many studios have talked about games and given very little context about them, I won't single out BioWare for doing the same thing.

It does mean the clues have to lead somewhere coherent and sensible.

I guess it's sort of like Prometheus. It provides a lot of hints and asks a lot of questions. But, in the first movie at least, only the most basic ones were answered.

There are a lot of people talking about this video from BioWare, there seem to be plenty of people interested in it.

But again, every time they do that they gat shat on by the same fans with the Wrex tattoos.

Inquisition showed off alpha gameplay to press and it got leaked, and had a ton of trailers for people in the interim for everyone else. We all got pissed when stuff from that alpha gameplay was eventually cut and people were pissed.

Mass Effect 3, massive hype...didn't live up to it in a lot of people's minds. Dragon Age II same thing.

Whether it's marketing issues on how they present it or not, I think the strategy this time is to minimize damage and expectations from the get-go by keeping it nebulous and letting us go on the easter egg hunt, letting us dissect it and build the hype on details here and there. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see anything of xenophobia or jingoism...or much of a story-line info at all.

And it's kinda working, to be fair there.

That's a joke, right? Do you know anything about gaming? Bioware is certainly a more well-known and accomplished developer than CDPR. A LOT of people are interested in Bioware games and especially Mass Effect, it's one of the biggest gaming franchises and it's on everyone's radar. It was basically EA's main attraction at EA Play, even though they barely showed anything.

The article also indicates that they're paying a lot of attention to the ending, including focus testing. It reads to me like they're being uber-cautious about the story in general- they don't want any concrete details out there because they might be subject to change. DAI received a lot of backlash for content dropped from a version that wasn't ever intended to be seen by the public at large, and given how a vocal minority of players continue to behave as if the ME3 ending murdered their entire family, I don't necessarily blame them for playing this one close to their chest, even if I do wish they'd released something more substantive.

Please, this is like the first game where they are actually keeping their mouths shut, surprisingly. EAware was always a "drone-studio" Only reason they're doing this is because it worked so well for Bethesda.

Bioware have been making games for 21 years. At this moment they are as much industry veterans like Bethesda and Blizzard, and as well known.
