Yes, BioWare, we don't like surprises. Spoil everything, like a good little Hollywood drone-studio.

You should look at the Reddit leak again.

Apparently, I don't get it either, because I have no idea which thing it is that the OP finds objectionable.

In any case, they'll be at the content cutting stage soon (normal game practice),
so best to have a full trailer drop after that stage has been done.

Good promotion strategy.

Suspense and anticipation creates frustration, which gets people talking

They're using us to build buzz for the game, and it's working

Maybe it's not ready yet? Does anyone remember the years of wait for Fallout 4? Then it was only officially announced 5 months before release. M:A probably still has a good 9 to 11 months of development (if they don't push it up again) and we've known about it for months.

Is there a point the OP is making aside from being upset in general about BioWare's marketing strategy for this game?

Someone didn't learn Marketing 101. You build anticipation in the way he mentioned. Now, bug off, negative one.

Just trolling man. It happened before the ME3 war and "100s" of years into the future (lol no more like millions of years try harder) is when they wake up. I almost guarantee it at this point. Though if after the reaper war then I wonder what the excuse is for leaving the milky way lol. That would be harder to write than just the reaper invasion.

Sounds like a bunch of psuedo intellectual drivel. There's no "clues" in the material presented of the game thus far, just lots of flashy Rule of Cool effects and nostalgia baiting crap.

But again, every time they do that they gat shat on by the same fans with the Wrex tattoos.

Inquisition showed off alpha gameplay to press and it got leaked, and had a ton of trailers for people in the interim for everyone else. We all got pissed when stuff from that alpha gameplay was eventually cut and people were pissed.

Mass Effect 3, massive hype...didn't live up to it in a lot of people's minds. Dragon Age II same thing.

Whether it's marketing issues on how they present it or not, I think the strategy this time is to minimize damage and expectations from the get-go by keeping it nebulous and letting us go on the easter egg hunt, letting us dissect it and build the hype on details here and there. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see anything of xenophobia or jingoism...or much of a story-line info at all.

And it's kinda working, to be fair there.

would have to agree. its disappointing that we dont see more. and the video is vague.

but bioware has achieved their goal of getting ppl talking about what little was shown.

from the way i see it, they put out such little content in that video and there's already so much noise about it.

regardless of what the video has, you know that lotsa people are anticipating and speculating.

the only thing i think that they would miss out on, is ppl new to the series. because if you're new to the series how exactly would you be able to speculate about things like, are the me3 endings canonised or retconned? when exactly does the ark leave the milky way etc etc. and the video shown doesnt necessarily contain anything that would captivate new players. sure the game looks awesome. but doesnt every new game look awesome now? which is why we look for something more.

I think that's a perfectly fine way to market a game and I prefer it to the deluge of spoilers that was MEs original marketing campaign, or ME2s spoiler ridden mess.

Agreed. Summarizing the story in the marketing doesn't work for games any better than it does for movies.

Yeah, that's another pet peeve of mine - trailers that completely spoil all of the story beats. Not spoiling your entire story isn't a flaw. That doesn't mean the weird choice to make the trailer a behind the scene developed video is a good one - just that I think the premise is fine.

This trailer would be absolutely outstading if released back in N7 day. For a show like E3, it just made people wonder about the health of MEA's development.

This, hopefully the whole debacle with Gawker and Hogan shuts this garbage site and its ilk down.

no it doesnt the trailer show alot more that what we saw so far. Is ppl imagination that play tricks. And worst is the game is not even close to release so why i want a super deep trailer that will keep me wishing i can time travel???

Is better they keep it hush and then close to the release time they give us more info.

unfortunately the parent company of IGN bought Gawker Media at auction for $90MUS...so they are still running currently and will likely be incorporated into IGN and such forth... Honestly Thiel should have just bought them at auction and killed it.

Damn that sucks, oh well still funny that Kotaku is now reduced to nothing but a Ign prop now. Maybe the content they produce wont be so cringe inducing.

Come now, it's not about feeling disenfranchised or that these guys "owe us" it's just comparing their advertsing models with those of other major game IP's I really think they are missing the mark.

The things that I love, purely adore, and the things that cause people like us to put on Tattoos with Wrex on our bodies is the soul of this game.

The feeling of immersion. The true feeling of understanding something about our humanity through the lens of xenophobia or Jingoism.

NOT ****** LAND SHIPS AND BOUNCING BIOTICS!

They are advertising the parts of the game that do not make it Mass Effect. It just doesn't make sense.

And in the past they have revealed too much actually slipped in spoilers and Bioware is very much doing what OTHER IPs have done. Say little to nothing until the game is done then release the info, this is a valid and non unique way of promoting games in the industry. Has it been Bioware past strategy? No but they clearly told us they were taking a different approach. This change in strategy happened after the 2014 ME:'next' reveal so we have had a long time of knowing the game is coming but that is irrelevant. they have been straight forward about their projected release dates for ME:A. We will get info when we get it and our DESIRE for more info doesn't entitle us to said info nor is it an insult or attack or any petty label people are putting on it towards their fans.

We know ZERO about their new IP only that it exists and I suspect one day we will get an E3 announcement in the coming years that say X is coming out this year. This is the new trend bioware has taken and frankly given how often people have talked about being lied to or betrayed because a clip they see with the caveat "In development" or "subject to change" was surprise changed. The fans have proven they are not adult enough or rational enough to handle information that is subject to change so we get next to nothing. In other words we have gotten exactly what we deserve.

I disagree. If they really gave us clues to figure things out from the trailers, that would be pretty awesome. There is already lots of discussion about it and it gives us something to talk about. However I would feel betrayed if they didn't really have a proper answer and it turns out to be a handwave.

Prepare to feel betrayed
