During the segment with SWTOR, Game Director James Ohlen of BioWare Austin (also Game Director on KotOR 1 and DAO) stated that "beyond The Old Republic [presumably the MMO] there are so many stories we still want to tell." While he doesn't explicitly say what these stories are, it's implied BioWare is working on a new Star Wars RPG that is not SWTOR.

Could BioWare Austin also be working on KotOR 3 while continuing SWTOR? Could they be making a brand new Star Wars RPG? I doubt we'll get any more details than this from BioWare at this point. Either way, I'm excited to hear more about what he meant about telling new stories.

I hope so i would most definitely buy and play that game and i bet i'm not the only one out there who would also buy and play KotOR 3 as well. So i hope you are right and that we can play another episode of KotOR soon/someday.

Well there is certainly a demand for it and BioWare has stated in the past they'd love to do another KotOR. I think doing a KotOR 3 or a game in that era is far more likely than them just doing an entirely new Star Wars RPG. Whatever this game is, we aren't going to hear about it for quite a while as I'm assuming it's still in very early development and not that far along. My hope is that Drew Karpyshyn, lead writer on KotOR 1 and ME 1 and 2 will be the lead writer on this new Star Wars RPG. He just came back to BioWare Austin after finishing his book series so I hope this tease is linked to his return.

I don't know about BioWare, but Disney made mention of "many new Star Wars" games.

What scares me about a KotOR 3 is being like Batman Arkham Asylum, the latest fad in action  combat that would ruin the game for me :)

true i can understand that. Keep in mind that if there was a Kotor 1 and 2 remake or a Kotor 3. there should be enough new elements to attract new players conversely there should be enough older elements to attract veterans.

Exactly. I think there are far more Star Wars projects in the work than they just explicitly stated. I think this new, possible Star Wars RPG from BioWare is one of those games they are hinting at without providing too many details.

To be honest, Batman Arkham saved Batman in the video game genre. Before that game, there were far more bad Batman games than memorable ones. We can debate about whether or not Rocksteady made smart decisions with the story, but not many will criticize those games for their game play. Free flow combat literally revolutionized action games and many games have since copied Batman Arkham's combat system.

Exactly my point.  Due to what that combat did for Batman and the subsequent games that copied/adopted it, a KotOR 3 could very well jump on that bandwagon, making the game 100% about combat.  Besides, KotOR is not in need of any assistance like Batman was :)

Well then i'm a veteran to but i'm in my early twenties isn't that a little young to be called a veteran :) ?

And i also think that Disney will "milk" the Star Wars franchise to the limit.

What, no! What makes you think that would ever happen????  :P

EA has hinted that Bioware (as well as other studios) https://www.trueachi...s-star-wars.htm are in someway working on their avalanche of future star wars titles. Could this mean KOTOR 3 or some kind of a spiritual successor. Maybe? Knowing EA and how different Bioware is from what it was in 2003 this would probably something more...action oriented. Just look at the chart from their financial outlook conference this year. http://www.dualshock...n-action-genre/

I would preorder if that's true

I would also buy a remastered version of 1 & 2

I never pre-order due to bad experience with that but maybe in this case i will make an exception.

And i would most definitely buy the remastered versions of 1 and 2 to.

If so then I hope they stick to the original ideas for it if possible.

It's hard to know what BioWare will do in terms of combat. KotOR 1/2's combat is pretty antiquated by today's standards. I can't see KotOR 3 being a full on action game either, but the combat might be more action-oriented than DAI. I could see BioWare perhaps using TW3's combat system as a model to perhaps go from there. We'd just have to wait and see.

That is inevitable. A new movie every single year and EA making Star Wars games around the clock? All Disney wants to do is milk Star Wars until there is no magic left.

It's worth noting that "action game" is probably referring to BioWare's new IP that BioWare Edmonton is working on and not a Star Wars game. While it's possible the Star Wars game BioWare seems to be secretly working on in their BioWare Austin office could be action-oriented, I'm still under the impression it will be an RPG.

If so then I hope they stick to the original ideas for it if possible.

What do you mean exactly? Gameplay mechanics? Story? I could see them trying to remain as faithful to the original two as possible, but without a doubt they'll modernize the game accordingly.

True, there is no way to know.  I am finding, though, that I enjoy and like the "antiquated combat" and fewer games want this.  It doesn't sell as well, so the action combat players get "all the love", so to speak :)

Don't get me wrong. The pacing of KotOR 1/2's combat was actually pretty solid. I can still play those games and I enjoy them immensely. BioWare could honestly just update them with better choreography and more fluid animations. That being said, people tend to prefer real-time, action-oriented combat over turn-based or strategy-based combat.

Admittedly, with lightsaber combat especially, combat should be fast paced. Again, there is a lot BioWare could do and many directions they could go, but I wouldn't be surprised if the combat isn't rooted somewhat in the foundations of SWTOR's combat system. MMORPGs are a little different, but SWTOR's combat is much more action-oriented than KotOR 1 and KotOR 2.

Great points and I agree the combat could be cleaned up, or smoother.  The pause function, though, was what I liked most, which doesn't work so well in an MMO setting  :)

I am trying to "accept" that my time in video games is coming to an end.  You are correct in that fast paced, action oriented, player skill over character skill combat is where the money is.  I don't foresee games ignoring the big bucks :)

DAI is somewhat of a happy medium between real time and tactical combat. I actually think that game does both rather poorly since it tries to appease both gamers. That being said, Bioware is aware there is a divide in what players want. It's very possible Bioware could try and adapt that to a kotor 3.

Even FFXV is incorporating two combat modes for those who like real time and those who want slower paced combat. Tactical combat where you can pause is certainly not dead, but it has become a niche. You just don't really see many RPGs going with that combat system anymore. The only games that still do are strategy games on PC.

I haven't tried DA:I.  Never really caught my eye.

Interesting tidbit about FFXV.  And it floors me that "RPGs" are saying goodby to strategic combat.  When *my* fat fingers hit a wrong key/button and *my* ineptitude kills my master skilled character, the game is no longer an RPG for me.  It is *me* playing *me* in a video game.

<sigh>
