So I was going to post this in one of the asari topics, but then I got thinking. At 0:51 we see a asari but she seems different from what we know. 

 

 

Why does she have facepaint on and seem so tribal? At the very end of the trailer (1:46) where the girl gets up from what I assume is a stasis/cyro pod of some kind and says, we made it. This would imply that the game starts of right when we get to Andromeda. However, this asari seems like something is off.

 

First of all she has face paint on which we have never seen before on any milky way species in the series from what I can recall. She is having a spear/sword/bayonet pointed at her at the very end. This seems like it would suggest she is being held captive by someone, maybe a Andromeda species? If she were captive though why would she have face paint on though, maybe to mark her as a hostage/slave?

Asari often have tattooed faces. The Asari councilor is one example, though there are lots of others. 

 

And of course, almost every Turian we've met has had face paint.

 

edit: You're right that it doesn't look as much like one of their usual tattoos. Maybe she's an Asari who was raised amongst Turians. That could be interesting.

But seriously, she probably has the face paint like most other asari and turians do. It doesn't even have to be remotely connected to slavery or hostages. Could just be a footage from a mission where they're ambushed or something. You might be reading a bit too much into it.

Well, completely forgot about that.  It has been awhile. Anyway. it still seems more like tribal face paint then tats, maybe because it is black?
