You're demonstrably wrong. Know how I know? I've played Mass Effect.

As for the question posed by the thread title, all of them.

We already got a Salarian on the Tempest so there goes my vote. Skilled technicians or medics are hard to come by.

At least a couple of Krogan would be quite handy for the muscle side of things. You'll need all the heavy-hitters in the world.

Elcor would be extremely useful for transporting heavy equipment to and fro sections the Tempest cannot get to. Mako ain't no taxi either.

Asari would be useful as healers/therapists, like Sha'ira. A commando squad would be spot on for covert strikes.

Vorcha would be an excellent addition to the fireteam.

Turians are skilled soldiers so I'd definitely want a grou of those.

A Yagh wouldn't hurt to reinforce the Krogan squad.

Geth rocket squads mixed with a few Primes would provide excellent support. Legion's hardware could be upgraded to create a master infiltrator.

A Prothean for the lulz.

A Volus would be handy for the logistics & number-crunching, keeping tabs on our resources.

Quarians, skilled techs second to none. Definitely a group of those aboard. Their enviro-suits allows them to go anywhere so that's not an issue. Stock up on dextro-stuff and you're set.

Drell.......don't need them. They come with too many complications.

Asari-great biotic potential valuable field operatives. Proven themselves in 3 mass effect games. Quarians-need I say anything at all? Suits. You're argument, irrelevant.

Until **** hits the fan and Quarian suit gets punctured

Turians, Krogans, and Drell are superior for field ops.

Salarian: Useless, insufficient lifespan.

Drell: Useless, insufficient numbers.

Personality and usefulness. Merits matters.

I'm not going to judge before I meet them, I'm not a superfan of Batarians in general, cultural thing mostly. I'm sure there could be a cool Batarian. But they are not on my list of prefered company before I get to know them.

In this new galaxy, dependable people will be valuable I'm sure, there arn't trillions from the old galaxy to pick from so every last one should be valuable (except for stonecold traitors that don't belong)

Very skilled ship operators and operatives should be assigned to ships when there is a need, other people will have work to do on colonies, settlements and outposts etz.

Volus, Hanar and Elcor are unlikely to be squad mates.

As long as I get a variety of alien races on the squad I don't really mind which races are on it that much.

CREW members, not squad members. Mordin was a brief crew member in ME3, working in the med bay.

Am I the only one that hoped we get mostly new races or at least new gender/species combinations in MEA?

Male Krogran.

Female Asari (of course, no complaints).

Male Salarian (based on wardrobe) [Rumored]

Human female [Rumored]

Out of like what? Six or seven squadmates? It sounds pretty bland when you look at all the dozens of alien species that exist and the inevitable new ones that are being made. I'd keep any alien race on the tempest, but I dont want a repeat Normandy. I can just go back and play the trilogy if I wanted to pal with those species.

Asari are mono-gender, sweetheart. There's no male or female.

This isnt a gender thread, but I've only ever heard asari use female pronouns. So that's where my logic came from, honey.

Yes, look at the trailer when the protag is in front of the galaxy map. There is a salarian on the right side and a krogan on the left side.

That's only if you're standing behind them looking forward.

Hmm. Let me see.

Asari - powerful biotics. We all know how much that can help.

Drell are supposedly great at stealth - perfect special operatives.

Elcor - we already know for sure that their idea of war involves themselves becoming literal walking heavy armor.

Hanar - hahahaha! Big. Stupid. Jellyfish. But wait! One of them almost strangled Zaeed Massani to death.

Humans - you kidding? Every Marine a Rifleman, every Rifleman Z-G certified!

Keepers - naw, they're probably gone. Like, poof, gone, because the Citadel's still in the Milky Way.

Salarians - Ever heard of the Special Tasks Group?

Turians - Military society. Pretty much alien Sparta on a species-wide basis.

Volus - uh... no, thank you... lore-wise, they're merchant race. That ME3MP appearance isn't really that much canon.

Batarians - supposed they're hardy, could be good infantry.

Geth - ultimate synthetic infantrymen, bonus - can't take any real casualties.

Krogan - who doesn't want a man that can withstand more hits than the enemy can throw at them? Plus, led by Wrex, they're no longer mindless.

Quarians - exceptional technicians, on the battlefield, a good tech is invaluable.

Vorcha - little experience, but they can be dedicated to the cause under other species' leadership. Plus they breed like flies, so... cannonfodder.

I guess Volus, Elcor, Hanar and Quarian are races that fit combat and changing environments least. Volus and Quarian are in trouble if their suits breaks in most environments, Elcors can be logistically bit harder to get around and Hanar.. well I haven't just seen any in action this far. I wouldn't be against seen any of these in the field though, but they do have some disadvantages compared to others.

Krogans, Vorcha, Turians and Asari are probably best in the field in terms of combat and adaption in different environments. I don't get how Asari wouldn't be good in front lines, sure they aren't moving tanks like Krogan, but they have pretty much strongest biotics from all Milky Wayan races.
