That was my impression as well, I thought she looked like someone in her early twenties at most, and so a little too baby-faced for someone who is supposed to be in a senior command position. Of course with a CC that isn't an issue, and if using the female protagonist I'd just opt not to go with the default (assuming that is the default) and create a character who looks like she is in her early 30s.

I also don't get the complaints that she looks unattractive.

I think that's deliberate, and we won't start in a command position.

She looked as good as I do, an average female human wearing no make up. I see no issue. Where does OP live that he is so used to seeing 10/10 supermodels everywhere?

That Asari though, she looked goofy. Like she belonged in a Pixar movie? Bet she ends up being a really awesome character and I look back on this post and feel bad.

We all desire perfection. Nobody desires faults. That's why we go to movies, watch TV, and play video games. It's an escape from the harsh reality of the world we live in. A game developer can make ugly people, or beautiful people. It's a choice. Beautiful women in movies and games are the most memorable because that's what we want.

The new woman shown in the clip looks like a botched custom femshep.

Williams was the least beautiful female squad mate/crew member of the series, but she was still pretty.

I'm concerned that we will get a bunch of ugly/masculine squad mates (and femshep) after seeing this trailer.

I was hoping for more babes like EDI, Aria, Kelly, Treynor, Liara, and even Tali, etc.

I disagree, I thought she was really pretty.

Disagree with that too, but that because I am simply not attracted to Asari. I would agree that Tali and Miranda are more attractive.

I don't think this woman was masculine at all, and the Asari didn't seem masculine either, just young.

I don't think that is telling at all, unless maybe characters looking a bit more realistic is going to bother you too much.

The Asari looks androgynous

I think of Liara and Samara as the feminine Asari.  The former is very girly while the latter is extremely womanly

A game developer can make any character they want, not just A or B from someone else's narrow minded view. They made a character that is relatable to a big chunk of the people who will choose to play as her if they don't feel like bothering with the character creator. If she is so hideous for your precious eyes just do what almost everyone else will be doing anyway and change how she looks. She is a completely customisable character, remember?

Go make your fake supermodel girlfriend if you want anyway.

And by the by, stop saying "we" like everyone here agrees with you. I, and many others, remember characters well (male or female) from movies or games that are written well and are memorable characters regardless of how aesthetically pleasing they are to look at. So no, it isn't "what we want". It's just what *you* want.

No "we" don't, perfection is all well and good but I do like people and things with faults. Sometimes it makes things seem even more beautiful. And no I'm quite fine with my reality and the world and don't need to escape into anything, I play them because they're bloody fun and I get to blow stuff up.

Also just because someone is beautiful doesn't mean that they're memorable. For example I like EDI better when she was the ship instead of a sex bot. Ciri from the witcher 3 has a scar which I think only adds to her character. Tyrion is my favorite character from game of thrones and he's a dwarf. So no, beautiful =/= memorable or great characters.

Well, the reality screamers got their wish.  Most women don't look femme fatale like.  Not to mention looks are a small part of being beautiful.

I don't know who this We person is but while We is entitled to their opinion, I share the same opinion as Nobody on this one because I don't desire perfection either; I desire faults and flaws because that's what makes characters interesting to me and gives away to stories and settings that I prefer.

A Song of Ice and Fire has flawed characters that makes mistake. Neither their flaws nor their mistakes tend to deter me from liking them. Tyrion Lannister is one of my favorite characters because I love his character.

It's not beautiful characters I find memorable, it's well-written characters that I find memorable. I've sat through enough films, games and books that thinks the beauty of a character is a substitute for characterization, story or common sense. I would name them but I cannot because, well, they were not memorable enough for me to remember them.

By the way, have you met Dutch's Ghost? I seem to remember he knows people with similar names to We and Nobody.
