Asari don't have eyebrows. They have facial markings which may resemble eyebrows, or which might be tattooed on above the orbital ridge of the eye, but they do NOT have eyebrows.

And for those of you saying "It's just a game" or "It's fiction" or "why do you even care?" there is a very important answer.

In previous games, asari did not have eyebrows. None of them did. Not a single one. Not even Liara. The artists of those games could have established asari as having eyebrows through the same tricks that made it look like Shepard has eyebrows, but THEY DID NOT. Therefore, asari do not have eyebrows.

This new trailer shows that this asari does have eyebrows. Look closely, there is a difference between the raccoon smudge across her face and the delicate feathering that shows very clearly there are eyebrows.

This detail matters. It matters a great deal, because it shows very clearly that Bioware's artists are not paying attention to the established facts. And the only reason that Bioware's artists would not be paying attention to these established details is because the management, the producers and directors of the game, do not care about details.

The primary hallmark of any good science fiction is paying attention to the details, however small. If you establish something as a rule, you keep to that rule or point out exactly why it is a violation of the rule, and that explanation had better not violate another established rule.

Something as simple as one character having eyebrows who *shouldn't* have eyebrows shows a deep inability to pay attention to the details on the part of the people who are presenting the story. It is a prime indicator of how trustworthy the storyteller is.

This asari having eyebrows is a very good indicator that you cannot trust this storyteller, these writers, these artists. They don't care about consistency. They only care about the 'rule of looking good', and that always produces a crappy story.

Either that, or they just gave away, in an E3 trailer, this character's story twist that she is actually a human who's been surgically modified to look like an asari.

Geth again. They were in other galaxy. Maybe in Andromeda asari-likes do have eyebrows and human-likes do not.

Adult Asari don't have eyebrows, we don't know about adolescent Asari, and for some reason I got the impression that that Asari was an adolescent & not an adult.

Also I don't think we've seen an Asari with a human parent either

Its also a scifi universe where you could reanimate a corpse and nobody question it.

Ever heard of cosmetic surgery?

It doesn't matter whether the asari has a human parent, a hanar parent, a krogan parent, a turian parent, or a vorcha parent.

Asari have only asari genes and are always and solely asari. There is no such thing as a "hybrid" asari. When mention is made of an asari being 'part hanar' or 'part batarian', these are references to personality traits, not genetic ones. This is the subject of several different conversations in Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3.

"Crossbreeding" and "hybridization" such as that which happens in the Star Trek universe does NOT happen in the Mass Effect universe. No species is genetically compatible with any other species, even the asari.

The asari self-fertilize. The partner's role in the process is to produce a random variation in the asari's genes, not contribute any genetic material of their own.

Asari eyebrow threads.

We're finally entering into new territory.

Edit: Look they're clearly making major changes to the game. Asari are now manly with eyebrows. Or worse they're now capable of alternating between genders. Or they've responded to the requests for more alien aliens in the only way BioWare know how.

With overkill.

Why they gave them eyebrows I don't know but I think its the least of this races problems today.

Wasn't Liara considered to be "little more than an adolescent"?

Asari eyebrow threads.

We're finally entering into new territory.

It makes me wonder how many more, uh, unique threads will appear now and in the future.

On illium there was one saying she was finally 80 and it meant she could move out of home.

Maybe neither really has eyebrows and it's just a phase they got through in their adolescent stage

I honestly don't care. It could be some sort of placeholder, or maybe the devs thought that eyebrows would make emotions easier to animate. Or maybe there is some ingame explanation for this. Isn't it canon that Asari can adapt and pass on desirable traits from their partners to their kids? Maybe they thought that eyebrows are nice?  :D

... and over the, perhaps, millennia that ME:A might be into the future of the ME Trilogy, is it not possible that Asari DNA (along with the DNA of any other familiar species in the game) has mutated and changed through a process known in human circles as "evolution?" We still do not know when the ARK left the Milky Way or how long it took to get to Andromeda and whether all subjects of the ARK were in cryo or whether some were left awake so that what we see are several generations distant from their ancestors in the Milky Way.

Also, while the generally accepted principle in the ME Trilogy was that Asari did not take on any of their partner's DNA, we do have an indication that might not be totally correct.  Aethyta, "it seems, got a bit of his [i.e. her Krogan father's] mouth." (ME2); and in ME3 she expressly counters Liara's assertions of Asari not being "half or quarter something else."  So, perhaps it's a case of Aethyta getting it right that Asari were actually taking on some other DNA even though they didn't think they were.

At any rate, when series get revamped/rebooted, etc.; things get rendered/interpreted differently.  It's not necessarily that the animators "aren't paying attention."  They probably know full well if they've made changes... and THEY know why they made those changes.  As mentioned above, it may just be to make Asari appear a little more "masculine" since they are supposed to be monogendered and not female.

Except an Asari conceiving a child doesn't even require DNA of the partner. They can literally just link minds and boom, they are pregnant. At no point in that encounter is DNA transferred. So it makes no sense that the other parent's DNA would actually be part of the child, but instead the mother just uses it to alter one set of the two sets used in parthenogenesis.

Alternative description: In an effort to make a generation ship actually work, and without having to drag around 10,000 people of each species to ensure enough genetic diversity for long term survival, they have extensive gene banks and artificial wombs.  The Asari shown isn't actually an asari, but more like a GMO'd Asari, which is indicated by the presence of eyebrows: some serious genetic manipulation has gone on!

Maybe this is one if the mythical little blue babies, sent to Andromeda by Matriarch T'Soni to keep her safe from Destroy Shep. Who wants to turn her over to the dark side.
