What soul? Mass Effect: Andromeda started out as a soulless moneygrab and it'll end its days as one.
Why would they spend this much development time and resources on just a "cash grab"? Wouldn't they crank it out quicker to get that $$$ ASAP?

If they were competent, sure. Why would they spend this much development time and resources on just a "cash grab"? Wouldn't they crank it out quicker to get that $$$ ASAP?
If you listen to the video then I think you can see very clearly how I made that assessment.
THIS is what they released at E3 for Mass Effect 2.
Those were different days. I am pretty sure if that video was aired at this E3 and Mass Effect 2 was released in the state it was in there would be plenty of calls for boycotts and lawsuits because not everything said there was in the game such as dismemberment and the UI changed and that is false advertising to try and con players into pre-ordering a horrible broken game.
Besides E3 isn't over yet and they only had two min as EA squeezed them into a presentation that focused on the content being released before Mass Effect.
That's kind of like giving a hipster speech about a painting your student just did having "no soooouuuul, man!" when you're trying to look at it through a blindfold you've been wearing non-stop since before that student starting painting.

Why are you even trying to apply logic? The OP is about some DJ saying a game that we've seen no more than 3 minutes of has somehow lost it's "soul". This thread/forum isn't about logic, it's about feelings (and cross-media promotion).
Tech demo is exactly right. Why are we still getting a glorified tech demo at this stage? Only the hard-core-ist of fans would find anything to get excited about in this footage and even that's a stretch. Roll on next year's EA Play.
If they were competent, sure.
The only difference this time around is their marketing approach. We haven't seen enough to judge the game's "soul". Unfortunately this means threads like these that spread baseless fears.
This thread is frustrating even by BSN standards. I'm not sure how you can so thoroughly critique something with so little real information. Whatever works for you, man. I'll wait until I see more to get to worked up in either direction; and I'll wait until I play it before I judge it "soulless", "good" or "great".
At this rate, "asari eyebrows" will become the new "green eyes" gag.
I suppose no one seems to care about my initial concerns
Here's the thing, after years of dealing with this community...Bioware appears very reluctant to reveal things too early. With DA:I they got crap for things shown in a gameplay teaser over a year out from release not showing up in the final game. So with the next game not coming out till 2017, I am not surprised they've pulled back as much as they have.
That said, I personally like what I have seen and have no desire for Bioware to cobble together a demo reel...when I'd rather they work on the game. Worst case scenario...I'll check out all the information available after release and make a decision then.
Can't take this thread seriously.
I can take this thread seriously, but only because of the fact it's in the same forum as people losing their minds about Asari having eyebrows.
Patience. A conventional story/gameplay trailer will likely show up to inject 200 mg of soul into the franchise.

This game has about as much soul as a geth unit
They really should have let the series die with ME3 as originally intended, instead of dredging up the corpse and raping it in the most ill conceived manner imaginable just to make a buck.
Again, no one seems to be addressing the base issue here though.
Why are they trying to get us excited about things in the game that are the least exciting?
People love Mass Effect for the immersion and the characterization, not this....
They did pretty much the exact same thing when they were talking about DA I. The environmental stuff came first, the character and gameplay stuff came later.
First of all, what exactly is the "soul of Mass Effect"?
In my experience, "The Soul of X is missing" is a catch-all explanation people use for when they don't like X because it's new and they can't explain why.

They really pushing the exploration theme.
The beauty of the environments on the new planets is what shined in the trailer.
I sense a lot of unjustified nerd rage and overreaction...
Sometimes I get the impression people around here are seriously overinvested in their favorite video games. I mean, even with the ME3 endings or the DAI borefest, I wasn't angry. Just disappointed ![]()
But seriously, losing your @#%^ because you didn't like a trailer? Seems like an unhealthy waste of emotion.

I share your trepidation. The tone of the new video seemed to emphasize exploration so heavily, and I don't think that's one of Bioware's strong points. At least, not so far.
We'll see though. It might just be that they're being very careful about what they reveal.
