"It's alpha footage! It will look better closer to release!"
The footage in the E3 trailer looks better then the one in that leaked video though. I mean in general, not that particular scene which is the same in both videos.

Other then the character and facial stuffthe game looked fine. Almost movie like.
Well of course it looks better, the trailer was 720/1080p and the leaked footage was 480p.The footage in the E3 trailer looks better then the one in that leaked video though. I mean in general, not that particular scene which is the same in both videos.

I don't think it's just that. The armour of the male character in the new trailer is far more detailed then the one the male character in the video had, regardless of the different resolution. Probably the same for the krogan, for the glimpse we can see in the new trailer.
I don't care that much though. The game looks decent enough. I'm more concerned on other features of the game then the graphic department.

I actually really liked the facial animations, and that's not exactly a rare opinion (outside of these forums, at least).
In any case, I'm very happy with what we've seen of the graphics so far--in fact, I liked basically everything in the trailer, much as I wish there'd been more. My primary concern remains the possibility that they'll load the game up with far too much Inquisition-style filler, having checked the leaks and
so on.
That one worry isn't really enough to dampen my excitement at this point, though.

Mine neither. And its not really that big of a concern for me. Sure there will be filler side quests and filler side content, all big games have that from DA, to Witcher, to Skyrim, but I expect that in this go around there will be a lot of story driven and character driven side quests and enough cool things to do in the meantime. Though on the face of it my 2 concerns are: lack of story and a story just centered around 'go out and explore yee pilgrim' and that the game will emulate FOs settlement system...which don't get me wrong could work and could work depending on story constraints and the idea of 'building a new home for humanity', but...my brief experiences with the system have not been plesent ones.

Yeah, exactly. Every big open world game - even The Witcher 3, which I hold up as a shining example of how to do a big open-world RPG right - has some filler; it's pretty much inevitable. What you've got to watch out for is when the filler starts to absolutely overwhelm the non-filler.
Like, The Witcher 3 has monster nests and horse races which are a bit eh, but it also has oodles and oodles of well-done side-quests with proper stories to them, and a good amount of variety - not to mention all the main story quests, the romance stuff and so on - so you don't mind. Inquisition, on the other hand, has the main story quests, the companion quests, and then... Pretty much nothing else: the rest is all filler. And there's a ****-ton of it.
As long as BioWare don't make the same mistake twice - which is something they very, very rarely do; their mistakes tend to be all new, all the time - and realise that you need to counterbalance the filler with a good, healthy helping of proper quests, we should be fine.
Except DA I had a lot more to offer then just filler quests...I agree there was too many such quests in DAI, but there was a lot more to the game. Even a lot of the side quests were good and fun and helped the story in one way or another.

Such as? I'm not being a dick--I genuinely can't think of any good examples, and I spent 165 hours in that game. Everything I liked was either part of the main story, or a companion quest.

The facial textures on the female protagonist at the end of the trailer were very unimpressive. They didn't look much better to me than the textures in this "alpha footage" from years ago. It was really disappointing, given the amazing textures on everything else in the trailer. The armors, creatures and environments were beautiful. The protag looked like a shiny plastic doll with plastic hair.
The thing that really confuses me is that Ryder's face textures were noticeably less detailed than Asariator Furiosa from the same trailer.
Like I've said before, I'm on the whole really happy with the look of the game as shown in the trailer, but that did throw me for a loop somewhat.

The crafting.
The Companion interactions and talking with them at Skyhold.
...and my list was a lot larger then this.
But sadly seem to forgotten most of them. ![]()

Ah, I agree on the companion interactions - like I said, the two aspects of the game that I liked were the main story quests and the companions (I should have clarified that I meant simply talking to them as well as their specific quests) - but the crafting didn't really do it for me so much. I enjoy a spot of crafting in games, but not when the game itself doesn't really give me anything cool to do with my neat crafted gear. And since I didn't really like rifts, astrariums, shards, ocularums, 'read note, go to place, kill demon' quests and so on... Yeah, I dunno.
I like DA: I, but almost in spite of itself.
I suspect that, based upon how it was presented, the Asari was a demonstration of facial animation techniques. I don't think she's representative of what we will see in game. The protagonist at the end, though, that's likely what we'll get. Ugh. I hope they at least tone down the shine. She looks like oily plastic. The thing that really confuses me is that Ryder's face textures were noticeably less detailed than Asariator Furiosa from the same trailer..

Edit: typo
The shine was a real issue in DA: I. Cullen was basically a sweaty lightbulb...
It wasn't so bad with the player character, provided you knew to turn the 'shine' slider all the way to the bottom and then leave it there during CC.

I'm not a programmer, so I'm completely ignorant of how this works. Still, it baffles me as to why this is an issue. Is it really that hard to simulate more realistic skin textures? Every other game I've been playing on PS4 for two years has done it, excluding DAI in part. This makes me think it's a Frostbite issue.
If your "thing" is making cinematic RPGs centered around character interaction, learning how to make lifelike models needs to be a very high priority. I hope they make it happen with MEA, instead of MEA3.
I'm not too worried because, presumably they have months more of development time to run to make these things better and the game looks stellar in almost every aspect...and DA I did good with their character models, even if the animations were a bit...over dramatic at times.
