I wanted to mention that the Voice Director can have a lot of impact on the final product. I've heard good voice actors sound like total crap in some games and/or animated works.

Look at Mark Meer: he has voiced plenty of characters in both the Mass Effect franchise and the Dragon Age franchise but you'd be hardpressed to believe it if you thought his voice for male Shepard was the extent of his ability. I believe I've read he was instructed to voice Shepard the way he did.

Don't take this to mean that I think the voice for male Shepard is bad. What I'm saying is there was such a difference that I was surprised when I found out who else he'd voice.

My example is Hedy Burress, the lady that did the voice of Yuna for FF X. This was her first role and she did blossom into a great voice actress. For whatever reason, the voice director didn't stop her from trying to mimic Yuna's mouth movements in that game. It made her performance very stilted and awkward, since she was trying to keep her words in time with Japanese.

It does look like there are shuttles leaving Earth (or an Earth like planet) while it looks to be burning. In spots, at least.

Is it really during Reaper War?

What are "city lights"?

For comparion, here's a couple of pictures of Earth that was taken in space:

This one looks very close to the one in the trailer:

I believe I recalled hearing that Mark Meer was originally hired to do the temp track for Male Shepard, so voiced it that way expecting someone else to rerecord the lines later, but the devs decided to keep him for the role in the end.

But to be fair, both Meer and Hale are a little stiff and wooden at times in ME1... I think that has more to do with how Shepard was written in that game than through any fault of them as performers. Both the writers and voice actors were still getting used to the characters in the first game, but hit their stride by the time that ME2 and ME3 rolled around, when Shepard seemed to mellow from the stick-in-the-mud from ME1.

If that woman at the end of the trailer is supposed to be the new PC Ryder, does that mean that her hairstyle might be available in the character creator? Because I'd really like to see more hairstyles in Andromeda than the ones seen in previous ME games.

You can totally tell when its mark meer though. He's got bland and flat voice acting. Which isn't a huge deal for a side character, but was for a main character like Shepard. I could never really get into male shep for that reason alone. Hale pretty much out preformed him even with the corny lines lol.

Agreed. That's also why it took me so long to finish a playthough with male Shep. Just painful to listen. Hale, on the other hand... amazing voice.

The girl in the trailer... I'm glad that we can create our own character because the default one looks too much like Ashley. I really don't like how she looks. Hair's okay, though.

I think people is asociating her with Ashley just because of her white armor  :D

Waking from cryosleep probably confirms the ark didn't use wormholes or mass effect relays to reach Andromeda

Probably a new kind of FTL travel that may have reduced the time taken but still required centuries to complete the journey. Hence the cryosleep.

And the dark hair and the tannish skin. Her facial structure shares some characteristics with Ashley as well. I don't think she looks exactly the same as Ash at all, but I can see some similarities. ;)

Personal taste, I loved the work meer did as male Shepard, while I found hale exaggerated her intonation too much at times and never liked it.

Jethann is among the characters voiced by Mark Meer. Can you tell it is him based on the voice he does for male Shepard?

The Withered is also among the characters he has voiced;

That's just two examples;

I thought she over-acted as well. It mostly shows if you're trying to roll a paragade or renegon - her Shepard really jumps around in affect. Meer is a lot more even. And the blandness I think is quite a clever choice - that's quintessential to the dialogue of every single Bioware protagonist ever.

I'm a little excited by her face because NEW CHARACTER CREATION YAY but I don't have much opinion otherwise. Kinda just reminds me of all the other deep sleep space travel movies. Hope to see more hints of the Ryder character.

When I first saw the trailer, I was releived when I saw Ryder as she just looks to me like everyone else you might run into - nothing special, just a normal person.  This is really what I wanted for the game was to play a "normal" person who is tossed into an amazing situation.  It is a story of someone who becomes a hero based upon how she/he responds to the events of the story.

So far, I'm pretty darn excited about the game as this trailer sort-of/kinda restored part of my faith in BioWare.

what comes to mind when you hear her?

*Headed to Andromeda DURING The Reaper Wars.

*Was put into stasis during the journey.  The fear of not waking up again was in the back of her mind

The sound of relief in her voice suggests it was dangerous somehow.

I think the "Headed their from the Reaper Wars theory"

Good show old chap

I can confirm that the female character at the end of the trailer is, indeed, the female Ryder. If you don't believe me (which is understandable), then check out this video by Mass Effect Odyssey:

Scroll to the 1:24 second mark and you'll have your answer; this is supposedly information from an interview with Mac Walters himself, so, it seems pretty genuine to me. I have also heard that Ryder will have a family (it was mentioned during this same video, as well as some chatter around these forums), and that they will also have a brother or sister, depending on their gender.

The brother/sister will actually be the Ryder that you could have played as, but didn't choose to. That doesn't make very much sense on its own, so, for example: John Shepard and Jane Shepard existing within each other's universe as brother and sister, and only one can be chosen and played, much like the selection between the husband and wife that we saw in Fallout 4.

There is no way that is during the Reaper War. There is no Reaper Armada in the space around Earth where we are flying, nor any signs of battle. There are a couple fires in one of the scenes, but that is most likely just wildfires, naturally occurring and are visible from space.

Who says that's Earth? It could easily be a heavily developed (but otherwise unimportant - so that it's not a primary Reaper-Target!) Asari/Turian/Salarian etc. colony! (That there's a human fleet there might just mean that as humanity has lost it's space already (the Turians and Asari are hanging on better, same for the Salarians, but they've got more ships as well...not that it would matter in the end!) it's fleet is more mobile so it can guard the Ark!) somethink like Illium from ME2!

Can't ignore that he was also Mordin Solus, one of the best. Had to be him, someone else might have gotten it wrong.

You see the Great Lakes, the eastern coastline of North America, and the metropolises in that region are all exactly where they are on Earth. It's Earth in that trailer.

I didn't care for his Shepard, but I rather enjoyed the other characters he played throughout the trilogy and in other games.
