Just doubtful is all. My brothers name is George. well what's your name? Ryder. No your first name. Commander.

So?

The Ryder sibling can have fixed name for each genders, for example Alex and Sarah. Our character obviously won't, but that is going to happen either way.

Or are you referring that one sibling would be called with his name and our character with the family name? They already did that with DA2.

Now I want N7Guy to be voiced by Liquid Snake if he actually is Ryder's sibling

What if I don't like their names? What if I didn't want Shepard's mother named Hannah? It takes away from the role play. those are thing you can't control. This isn't dragon age.

Chances are the male and female Ryder will be siblings. The sex you choose will become the protagonist, and the other will become a NPC.

I can't see that happening. I can't imagine wanting to, for example, do a playthrough of male Shepard after seeing him as an NPC during my female Shep playthrough. I'd already have an impression of the male character from my female Shep playthrough.

Well this is not DA, but this is ME and like you said ME already had Hannah as Shep's moms name. So I guess you just have to suck it up if our family ends up having names we can't decide.

Lol, Mass Effect doesn't offer more roleplay options then Dragon Age. Also, why should we have any saying in our relatives's name? It's our character that I want to be in control, not others. If all the problems in roleplaying in MEA will be about not controlling my relatives' name I'll be an happy man.

Regardless. We have a family, that's confirmed, so regardless if our character will be one of the two siblings, or we'll have two more siblings, or a mother, a father, or whatever, we won't control their names.

Also, as you said, ME already went in that direction, since they named our mother is we were Spacer.

Perhaps we will be able to play with both Ryders at certain sections in the game.

It's unnecessary.

We're looking at this too conservatively, this would be really awesome:

Your first Ryder has baby Ryders with his/her love interest that you can play with in future games.

Unless they're gay in which case you're not allowed to play future games? :P

If two protagonists means two player characters then no thanks, changing PCs mid-game would ruin immersion for me.

I think our sibling will play a big role in the story though. They could become an antagonist, maybe they died during the Reaper war and serve as our motive to find a better home for humanity or perhaps they were killed in Andromeda and we seek to avenge their death. Or they could simply become a squadmate.

I think that would be awesome!

You play the game with both, brother and sister.

In the gameplay, you progresively torn them apart because politics, life, whatever. They don't necessarily fight against each other, they are just not so bonded as family as before.

At the end, in the final battle, you play as them both until a point where one of the two brothers, main protagonist are Virmired (Telltale games Game of throne style). You have to choose one of them. Maybe you prefer one over the other for their gender, or ther alignement (paragon/renegade), or because romance interest, or because you prefer a Voice Actor more than the other... At the end, one sibling dies heroically, the other is alive.

Next games, you have to recover from your sibling loss.

I'm not following you, here, though I usually find your posts pretty well reasoned.

I didn't get to choose my mother's name, nor my father's name, and life worked out okay. They didn't consult me when they named my sister, but she has always seemed just as real these past 30 years.

Getting to name your PC absolutely aids in verisimilitude. I'm not sure how not getting to name your parents or siblings harms it, as long as the names given them are believable for the setting.

And yet it's what thet decided to do.

Let's keep family anonymous for now on. What if I customize my Ryder and it looks nothing like the "sibling" but we share the same parents. What happened there? What about the first name? It's stupid to customize the sibling. It's freaking ridiculous.
