Which is why quarians should be off the list. If the Ark departs in the beginning of ME3, all quarians are busy fighting Geth and none of them is available. If they try to stay away from ME3 then they should at least do it consistently, not with a bunch of retcons.

Well, they took the krogans in, which are more or less in the same position with the genophage.

Krogan are all over the galaxy. Some of them are mercs. You can easily justify why some of them can be in the Ark. Quarians are a different story.

It depends on how much of them they are though. The leak suggested something about that.

Not that I don't agree that quarians are in a more complicate situation. I was mostly referring at making some choices in the trilogy canon, which affects both krogans and quarians.

Do we know that they leave at the beginning of ME3? It's plausible that they would want to send the ships any time after the Battle of the Citadel.

The Alliance would have even more reason when their colonies get attacked by the Collectors, too.

It doesn't have to be right at ME3, unless they've confirmed so.

It has to be. The Ark has to be a response to the Reaper threat. If this threat was acknowledged after ME1 then why the hell everyone was doing absolutely nothing to prepare for the arrival or to stop it? "That's it? That's our plan?"

And it makes perfect sense that huge parts of the Alliance wouldn't know about it. Too many leaks and the Reapers could decimate the project.

That quote was used to show the irony. Nobody was preparing for the Reapers (except for some researchers on Mars and Garrus' squad I guess). I don't buy their Plan A was to get the hell away from the Milky Way before the Reapers arrive. It's a good backup plan but a bad master plan.

considering the fact that all resources were thrown at project crucible, something about this does not sit right unless this scenario takes place straight after mass effect 1.  When the council had just been saved (or not) and the reapers were a threat that was not yet imminent.

I'm not debating if it's good or bad. I'm saying it's possible Bioware went that route, They made us discover the Council believe the Reapers were real in the Citadel dlc, they might have decided that they planned the Ark project.

To be honest making the Alliance/Council building the Ark ships after the Reapers' arrival wouldn't be that better.

I would agree if they wouldn't "dismiss that claim". They didn't believe Shepard right until the Reapers came in without knocking. And the Crucible plans were luckily found by a handful of Alliance researchers after the invasion.

Actually, ME3 retroactively proved that the Council was well aware of the coming Reapers, they didn't tell Shepard in ME2 because Cerberus, this is however confined to a few lines of dialogue and maybe a war asset entry. Also Hackett bluntly states in Arrival that he believes the Reapers are real, and he is the highest military authority in the Alliance.

Again, why didn't they do anything to prepare?

It would devalue the impact of space jesus saving everyone.
Shep: "The reapers are coming! We need to prepare! Why don't you do something!"
Tevos: "Commander, we have been undertaking extensive R&D on the remains of soverign for the past 2 years you were gone, have instigated a galatic wide war footing and have had new warships in construction continously. We have also beem doing extensive war gaming for multiple scenarios, as well as building emergency shelters and evacuation plans."
Shep: "...."
Tevos: "However commander, I'm sure we can find something for you to shoot or yell at, don't worry."

They mentioned "trick" while answering whether femRyder is the default, so my guess is that if we choose male, we play as a brother, and if female as a sister. And they might be on the different sides...could be cool if true:)

Another interview with Mac Walters

Okay, I found this a bit funny; Mac Walters is talking about looking back on things in the different installments like Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 3. In the latter, he briefly mentions the ending and without missing a beat, he says he knows the interviewer is gong to ask and then continues on with what he was saying.

Oh, I like that they are still keeping to the protagonist becoming a hero and not the protagonist hero becoming a legend. There's this bit related to it that I find interesting;

"-Coming together of everything here is new, everything here is fresh but what do you do when you are in that situation and you know, you are hundreds of years removed from everything that's familiar and what does that do to you as part of your journey to become a hero."

I like that it seems like they are putting an emphasis on exploring the unknown. In fact, I love that.

It seems that fall will be the time where more details about aspects of the game will be revealed since I believe he says they'll go more into the details in the fall.

Dear Shepherd, I already see these ads in Extranet.

"Feeling adventurous? Or maybe your creditors have hired krogans? Sign-up today for free travel to Andromeda galaxy* and start a new life!**

*Arrival is not guaranteed

*Military and other service may be mandatory"

Huh. Well, I guess this travel could've happened in any time before ME3 then. Interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how they're going to explain that.

Yes, I always assumed we left because of the Reaper threat and the government would've picked the smartest and most useful people to come along. This changes that.

I was just thinking. Maybe the Governments had nothing to do the Ark project. Just look at us today. The most advanced and expensive space operations are privately funded. So why couldn't that be the case in Mass Effect? This could explain why no government officials knew anything about it. In the trailer we saw military carriers (no dreadnoughts) and shuttles flying towards the Arks. Both the shuttles and the capital ships had no Alliance colors or symbols. They could be provided by a PMC that is part of the project. Recruitment and funding could have been conducted through more underground channels to prevent leaks.

Just a thought  ;)

It would make sense if the A.R.K.C.O.N. Initiative was just a natural expansion of the Council's inter-galactic reach (having nothing to do with the Reaper threat). The connotations of a word like Ark just make it seem misleading.

Inter-galactic reach? They were afraid of opening relays in MW, in case anyone forgot.

besides, probably 90 percent of the Milky Way is still unexplored. We usually only visit places that are close to a solar system with a mass relay. There could still be so much more life in our own galaxy.
