Will he be a charmer like Delan, the mechanic on Horizon?
A hero in my books

They mentioned "trick" while answering whether femRyder is the default, so my guess is that if we choose male, we play as a brother, and if female as a sister. And they might be on the different sides...could be cool if true:)
Yes, I suspect there is not a single protagonist; both a male and a female one are in the game and you can choose who you are, but this wil imply the choice of the role you want to play at the beginning of the game, this won't let you "create" your role.
Still doesn't answer why we're not exploring the hundred million or so stars within standard ftl/relay range.
I think you can bring Akuze up in a conversation between Shepard and Miranda but I think she basically goes; "Oh, that wasn't Cerberus. You should really give us a chance" and you never have the option of bringing it up again.
Yeah, but then there's no reason to even go to Andromeda. The Milky Way is full of unexplored systems, even if you count those out of range of the Mass Relay. The coming of the Reapers actually gives the colonists an imperative to get out of Dodge.
Plus, the fact that they left the galaxy on a survival mission doesn't mean the exploration element is left off. My pet theory is that the Arks were intended as experimental exploration vessels to chart space outside of the Relay network, and was repurposed when the threat of the Reapers was made clear. Now that they're in Andromeda, the Reaper threat is over, so they focus on the present; building a new home for their races in the new galaxy.
If the mission to Andromeda really is only one for exploration/scientific purposes, I'll be left confused. Why pour so many ressources on such a project with no strong imperatives? It is highly improbable anyone is coming back alive from Andromeda, if they even reach it, and forget about establishing any kind of contact or trade routes until intergalactic Mass Relays become a thing on both ends, so there seems to be little if any point.
The only possible reason I see is if the Council absolutely refused to allow any non-Relay exploration for fear of any Rachni Wars 2.0 happening, but gave the green light for Andromeda since it's too far for any danger to threaten Council space if it ever becomes aware of it. And even then that doesn't answer what interest anyone has in a project of this magnitude.

Eh, I'm not too crazy about this. This is sort of like losing Bethany/Carver based on your class. I don't think it's such a good idea to base the player's role in the story on what gender they want to play as. From what we've seen, if player's want to play a dude Ryder, they're stuck in a defined role and vice versa for lady Ryder. What if dude Ryder players don't want to play as the N7 guy?
It'd be more impactful, if there are indeed two sides to choose from, to actually let the player choose, regardless of the gender they chose.

"What if Shepard players don't want to play as the N7"?
Play another game, that's what.

Wait, I doubt that if the protagonist choice will be similar to Fallout 4 you'll be stuck as N7. It's more likely that the other gender will become the N7 character, not you. They won't change the story drastically based on your gender. You'll still be stuck in the protagonist's role, whatever it is. But that happened in ME as well, where you're stuck as N7 and a Spectre, or in all DA games.
Though it's possible as well that the N7 character's gender is fixed, even in the case he's a Ryder.

I dunno, it just feels like an arbitrary way to frame a choice?? Like my example of Bethany/Carver's death being tied to Hawke's class, I think people would complain about being given an illusion of choice when they've and the choice taken out of their hands because they ticked a different box. To me it feels a bit different than Shepard always being N7 or Bethany always dying, for example.
I know we can't be in complete control of where the PC begins, but I, personally, wouldn't be too keen on it.

Ah, looking at it again I think i might have misunderstood what pdario meant
If this is the case, then that'd be okay with me (strangely enough heh). Sorry for the confusion.
Yeah, I think pdario meant the two genders will both be in the game, the one you picked as the PC and the other as the sibling/relative. Though I'm not sure they'll follow that route.
Then I'm debating for nothing
. That'll teach me for having opinions about things!

RPG's are always the illusion of choice or if you call it accurately, a choice within set limits.
But I see your point, Shepard is an N7 regardless of gender and if in ME: Andromeda male players are N7 and female players are not N7 then it's unfair to both male and female players. So I suspect the N7 character is not the PC Ryder.
I once tried to explain why a more defined protagonist is the best way to go. The more freedom you give players to be anything they want (race, background history, name) the less you can use that in voiced dialogues and other story telling elements that give good immersion. One end of the spectrum is The Elder Scrolls, the other The Witcher.

I like Dragon age and mass effect because they strike the balance between the two. More immersive story than elderscrolls, more character choice than witcher. Future games becoming more defined or less defined would decrease my enjoyment of the series.

No, I think the devs didn't mean that way.
I think probably:
1) If you choose SheRyder, N7 is your brother.
2) If you choose HeRyder, N7 is your SISTER.
In any case, you will never had the choice of being N7 and as experienced as your sibling. That's the challenge for a possible antagonist
EDIT: however, it's more likely N7 will be your brother, regardless of the gender of your Ryder

N7 character could be the father and owner of the dog tags.
The N7 character can be anyone. Brother, father, cousin. The photo in the N7 trailer last year can refer to both a father and a sibling.
I don't thing the Pathfinder Initiaitve and Ai are necessarily separate, since the PC was already seen with the Ai insignia on the armour.

And Sten. Don't forget Sten.

Sten wasn't taken. He was hiding eating cookies. And cakes.

What I mean is that there must be a reason for Bioware to reply that she's the protagosit, but "there's a trick".
I guess there are two protagonists, with different stories, and you can choose who you are; maybe we'll be able to switch gender

The trick might not be about the game having two protagonist and two different stories. Expecially because we saw the male character in the trailer (and in the concept art) having the same type of armour with the same insignia as the female character.
N7 character could be the father and owner of the dog tags.
Spoiler
@Gavin_J_Porter Ryder is a last name. And the dog tags found in the N7 day trailer belong to another...
belong to another Ryder.
