Nothing will stop people from saying it's either the Fallout 4 approach or that this obviously means the game is terrible because they would show us something if they had it.

Though this is still really minimal even as a "tell, don't show" route.

Really? Across these brief interviews in a single day we've been told more about the game than we've learned from trailers/videos since the game was announced roughly 3 years ago. They just had a global stage at EA Play/E3 and chose to show us very little, instead promising to show us more sometime in the Fall.

except Mac Walters just confirmed the trip took centuries and trailer shows us that we wake up from stasis with a relieved 'we made it'

I've also seen that the ships have what look like smaller relays attached to them. I did a post in the "White Suit Girl," thread that explains my (probably incorrect) theory about the Ark(s) being a long time project between the Asari government and the Salarian government. I think they started to build it possibly a few milliena before ME1. As far as fuel goes, I'm thinking possibly eezo. Thessia was saturated with the stuff and that might explain how those mini-relays would be powered.

But like I said in the other thread, this is only my opinion. Hopefully over the coming summer/early fall we'll learn some more.

Okay, so they officially can't ignore the laws of relativity now going faster than the speed of light. They don't have the 'special corridor of space-time' between mass relays to help them out.

In order to make the trip in only "a few hundred years" they have to go AT LEAST 5,000-10,000 times the speed of light

I have heard that as any object approaches the speed of light, its mass grows to infinity. And since e=mc^2, the amount of energy required becomes infinite.

I'm not sure how they will space-magic themselves out of this. Damnit.

Only part of that I don't like is the pre-existing family. I don't like being forced to care about characters before I even meet them.

We have conventional FTL still. Our cycle's ships can go 12-15 light years a day just with their own Mass Effect drive. Reapers can go 30 light years a day.

That happens in pretty much every piece of fiction. Small retcons to make things fit, and if you can't roll with that then you can't enjoy anything, atleast not sequels. Point out something that doesn't do small lore changes to make the setting fit together.

A Song of Ice and Fire? Harry Potter? The Witcher? Criminal Minds*?

*Criminal Minds is a joke. I don't watch terrible shows.

This doesn't adress the point. It wouldn't have taken hundreds of years to reach Andromeda with the conventional FTL of the previous lore, it would've been impossible due to insufficient fuel and drive discharge issues.

Lore, however, is secondary to Rule of Cool, and tertiary to the fact that ME3 rendered the MW setting a dumpster fire that Mac's too afraid of nerd rage to attempt putting out.

This is superMac you are talking about, this man will space magic all the things if he has to.

So basically another Hawke story. We don't get to chose our backgrounds and we have family we'll have to drag around with us. Excellent

No that's what the deluded are saying. They don't know anymore than we do. Notice how I said deluded. One piece of info and this place goes to hell. They know not of which they speak. I'm not speaking for everyone as there are reasonable people I suppose yourself included who are willing to think before they act not just put down the first thing that pops into their heads. We need to analyze. I'm starting to wonder if this is just one big social experiment.

I'm really hoping we'll get insight into the Ark project.

I find it interesting  , same way I find the story of the Vault Shelters in Fallout interesting.

The drama involved in picking up a bunch of survivors knowing billions are left behind , I won't say amuses me , but I find it quite interesting.

We might not get that though , or it will be some superficial stuff without question about ethics , biaises and the likes.

That's more of a testament to just how little we knew than it is to how much information we just got.

Telling me you're going to give me more in the Fall doesn't mean that what you did right now wasn't minimal.

Personally I think that the giant tech "circles" around the ark ships are actually mass effect generators. They probably slingshot each ark to where ever there destination is which removes the need for engine discharge.

Let's say they got reaper tech, and go 30 light years a day.

*divides 2.5 million by 30*

*divides that by 365*

Oh.... that's only 228.

Okay.

Yeah they already space-magic'd the existence of "conventional FTL" outside the mass relay network =/ so there you go.

*sigh* Okay

They're most likely Citadel like 'rings' (like the Presidium), I think we should perceive the Ark Ships as moving Citadels.

Here is the thing.

I just want to have fun playing the game.

If I'm so focused on bringing real world physics and logic into a fictional universe and berating that fictional universe for not adhering to real world physics.... am I really having fun?

Well you're correct in that we don't know if family will be possible squadmates, as in DA2, but he confirmed that they're tied into the story. This means that if you're someone that likes to be conscious of your character's role and backstory you have to take that into consideration. May not be a huge deal but it means your interpretation of the character is not as broad as it could be without any existing knowledge of your family.

I wasn't ever against it.

I was merely pointing out that people aren't going to stop with the "They're pulling a Fallout 4" thing or the "They aren't showing us as much as I want, so the game is in trouble".

and that what they did tell us was still very minimal.

If they had Reaper tech FTL drives, why are they using them for some exploratory boondoggle rather than in warships to fight the Reapers?

Definitely not, I tend fly off the handle at each small snippet of info. It's more fun that way  ^_^

You got to have a LITTLE BIT IN THERE - like just one fundamental anchor, otherwise you're just in la-la star wars land.

That's what space magic proponents don't get. Mass Effect 1 did not capture us because it was la-la. It wasn't Star Wars. It had a touch of hard-sci in there, originally. Whether because of the pre-fabricated look of the buildings on other planets influenced by humans, the mag boots, the NASA-inspired designs of the combat and space suits, the attention to the way the Mass Effect technology was written in the codex. Those things were anchors which allowed just enough suspension of disbelief to sell the rest of the universe, and the rest of the things could all be space-magic'd, as long as those key elements remained solid.

Okay there is an easy way to solve this.

We just ask a developer here on the forum how this is going to - oh wait- The developers don't visit these forums anymore for some reason -  GEEEE, I wonder Why....... that was sarcasm by the way.

That was my worst-case scenario. Thankfully, we can double the 228 and get about 500 years of travel, to go with their 'conventional speeds' of 12-15 light years a day, and still call the trip "hundreds of years."

Ryder family huh?  I liked the Hawke family in DA2, didn't like the mother getting killed off, so this is interesting.  Bethany was my favorite squad mate, more sibling companions would be great in a game.

As long as they don't become the Skywalkers of ME, the key to everything in entire galaxy.
