True. I'm just trying to think of ways they can explain this project never being mentioned in the earlier games, because of course it wouldn't have been. Even if it was considered a fleeing strategy, it would have been brought up. And there'd probably have been arguments about who got on board.

With Cerberus and indoctrination, I have to imagine Alliance would keep it as secret as hell, from literally everyone who isn't directly involved. The Shadowbroker may or may not have known....and if Liara knew, I would think she'd agree to keep it a secret, knowing how incredibly important it is.

Thanks a bunch for this update! Seems to be quite a lot of new info that isn't hinted at all in the trailers. Good summary as well.

Battle of Palaven section of Reaper War codex specifically mentions several Reaper capital ships being destroyed by the turians using conventional naval/space combat weapons and tactics, but you failed to mention that for reasons I imagine have nothing to do with destroying your argument, no? Guess that also goes for Reaper dreadnoughts clearly taking damage from allied forces in the Battle for Earth cinematics.

Willfully obtuse describes pretty much every salty shitpost you make bub. You don't win an argument simply by declaring it so.

Yes, and guess what? Those several capital ships destroyed have about as much impact as taking a few drops of water out of a flooding river. In the grand scheme of things, they're irrelevant. Do the math: the codex tells us prolonged, concentrated fire from four allied dreadnoughts is needed to destroy a Reaper capital ship. Total up all of the dreadnoughts available to the MW species, and I don't think you even reach 200 prior to the invasion. Now, the Reapers have been around for about a billion years, if memory serves me correctly. Divide that by 50,000, and you get 20,000 capital ships. Maybe, if we're being generous, you can drop a couple dozen destroyed over all of those cycles to the present. We're still talking roughly 100 capital ships to 1 dreadnought. Then factor in the destroyers, which are even more numerous.

It quickly becomes obvious that the MW species are both quantitatively and qualitatively outmatched. Yes the Reapers can be hurt worse than ever before, but it won't matter. No arms race can change that. Anyone who has even begun to fathom how strong the Reapers are would see that trying to use these possible experimental drives to run away has a greater chance of making a difference than putting them on warships. Warships that stand a decent chance of being destroyed.

Assuming the family isn't handled like DA2 and assuming the multiplayer is divorced from single player like DAI this all sounds good.

I was hoping the new Normandy would be called the, SSV Agincourt.

It's not an alliance warship. I do hope it has guns or a Thanix canon. They better not be scum and leave is defenseless.

  • Big choices from the original trilogy (like the ending) won't impact ME:A
  • It's pretty much confirmed that the Andromeda explorers left before the ending of ME3, but when exactly isn't clear yet

Finally some people can stop their denial marathon. Hmm, what comes after that stage? Anger?

Mac Walters also viewed ME3's Cerberus as interesting and awesome and amazing so I'd take all this with a truck full of salt, to be honest.

And is extremely sensitive to criticism for the ME3 endings fiasco. Both of my proudly flown warning posts were from criticizing the endings and the writers, using language no stronger than doofus or arse. Probably another for this. But the truth is, he was up to his eyeballs in the mess that was the ME3 endings, obviously thought that they were a great idea, and this makes me sceptical of his input for MEA.

I hope Andromeda turns out fantastic, and if it does, he should deservedly get credit. But the obverse should also be true.

When you land on a planet, you don't just visit for one single objective goal, they want you to hang around and explore

I am going to be pissed if Bioware stuffs the game full of mundane tasks like picking space flowers... I am so sick of copy-pasted quest design and fetch quests in modern open world games.

You can't discharge in open space. You must either be in contact with a surface, or discharge into the magnetic field of a large planet. "Discharging" in intergalactic space will be impossible.

My thoughts exactly. Going hell-knows-where for ages has pretty high risk of eventually ending up somewhere with no suitable planets and\or objects nearby.

On the other hand, we've already had ME3 SR2 taxi which (of a sudden) flies in atmospheres. So, I won't be surprized to get a Space-Magic-Discharge-Free-FTL drive, which was assembled quickly (end of ME1-beginning of ME3) and secretly. And then again there was that Beaming Up. And then some.

(and - yes - I know that 'it's just a game and just a fiction', but even the wildest fictions need to stay true to their own inner rules)

Multiple devs at Bioware have confirmed she is the female protagonist.

From this IGN interview

  • Relations will be more realistic, they will evolve more organic
  • Romances will no longer be choosing the flirty dialogue options, which lead to a romance scene after a while
  • This also applies to non-romantic relations with squadmates, they too are more dynamic

Kinda curious how this is gonna wind up looking.

Really sick of multiplayer being added to bioware games.

Were you expecting them to drop it?

They really should have come out with this stuff during EA play. I know I was bewildered by the trailer, but still disappointed, as I was expecting something more substantial.

Anyways, I am happy that we still get this.

I am really curious at how much time has gone by. Decades?Centuries?Millennia? is billennia a word? If it's towards the latter ones rather than the former, that might mean the ****** sapiens species is inexistant in the MW when they arrive in Andromeda!

The T-shirt Mac Walters is wearing in that Kotaku article has the logo seen in the trailer I think. That part when you and 2 squadmates (Krogan and human presumably) get to cover and you brandish your Avenger assault rifle.

Fallout 4's approach was appalling. DA2's was decent.

I can actually envision it being a nice mechanism for some smaller, more low key storylines rather than anything big, dumb, or over dramatic.

I guess it is logical that if you are going to try to establish a colony, including family units may be, is probably the right way to do it. Its probably a reflection of the dominance of my personal value of individuality that I feel challenged by this. I hope it doesn't end up being to similar to "Space Family Robinson", ie Lost in Space. If it does perhaps it is occupying some kind of niche. The low key storylines may be a nice touch. The Ryder female looks friendly, in a soft way, not dramatically heroic and perhaps they are softening their protagonist art style.

I think everyone is overlooking the obvious explanation why we didn't know about the Ark project before- they hid it from Shepard because they knew she'd show up and somehow have managed to save the nephew or cousin or secret lover of the project leader who feels so indebted to her that they're like "I could just thank you like a normal person, but I'll give you all these people and resources instead". +5 War Assets, Reaper Survival Plan B failed.

I'm sorry but how do they hide a bunch of big-ass Ark ships in Earth's orbit? You don't even need to visually see them, all you need is radar and ladar equipment which is ubiquitous tech in starships. Also, the Alliance in ME3 obviously wasn't expecting the Reapers to attack, so why would they invest trillions of credits into sending people off to another galaxy on the off-chance that Shepard's ramblings about the Reapers might come true?

There are so many holes in this pre-ME3 premise. If they've changed the past to fit the premise, they've officially retconned the earlier games... and if that's the case, there's no longer any excuse for not retconning the ME3 endings out of existence and sparing us from this embarrassing excuse for a Mass Effect game.
