MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

Or just read: Everything we've learned about ME:A from E3 2016

From the YouTube Gaming interview

  • The dialogue wheel will be pretty much the same, but instead of clear black and white choices (paragon/renegade) there will be more 'grey' options
  • The protoganist is called Ryder, there is no default gender, the player chooses it
  • 'There is more than one Ryder. There is a Ryder family, we're going to tie that in to the story.' (This wil start in character customization, which will be quite different.)
  • There will be some, but not much references to the old games, instead the whole point of Andromeda is creating room 'to look forward'
  • Multiplayer is optional and you can experience everything the singleplayer has to offer without participating in multiplayer. But when you do choose to play multiplayer, the experience will feel seamless from the singleplayer experience.
  • The only vehicle you can control is the Mako, no space battles for you
  • The game is in it's 'final stretch', now it's mainly 'polish, polish, polish'

From this Glixel interview (new gaming website by Rolling Stone, pretty cool)

  • You will see the species that you're familiar with
  • This game is still a third-person cover shooter
  • Walters talks about a 600 years journey in stasis
  • BioWare contributed to the story mode in the new FIFA 17

From this Games Radar interview

  • About paragon/renegade: 'I think in general, with all this sophistication of games or engaging in any kind of entertainment right now, [gamers are] looking for more of those shades of grey'
  • Walters thinks the old system 'was a core part of who Shepard was' and fit with the original trilogy
  • When it comes to the future, 'I think now we’re moving away from that. We’ve been looking for other ways to engage more of those shades of grey; less about it being obviously being right or wrong and more about giving people a sense of choice'.

From this other Games Radar interview

  • The combat is far more fluid, far more organic than it’s ever been before

From this Eurogamer interview (with Flynn)

  • The ending of ME3 is of no consequence to ME:A
  • All ME3 endings could've happened when you play ME:A (all are equally canon)
  • There are no green-skinned people Milky Way citizens in ME:A (synthesis)
  • There will be elements of 'Oh, I remember that character'
  • In ME:A there's a coalition of Milky Way races
  • Not all Milky Way species are that happy to work along
  • More information on ME:A is saved for after the Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 launches

From this GameCrate interview

  • Apparently the colonists had a choice to go to Andromeda, since they all have different motivations (adventure, curiosity, running from something or they just want a fresh start)
  • Not to speculate (I try not to in this post), but it implies the colonists could apply for the trip and it wasn't 'The world is about to end, get on the lifeboat!'.

From this IGN interview

  • Relations will be more realistic, they will evolve more organic
  • Romances will no longer be choosing the flirty dialogue options, which lead to a romance scene after a while
  • This also applies to non-romantic relations with squadmates, they too are more dynamic

From this other IGN interview

  • Big choices from the original trilogy (like the ending) won't impact ME:A
  • It's pretty much confirmed that the Andromeda explorers left before the ending of ME3, but when exactly isn't clear yet
  • Again, the game will take place hundreds of years after ME3
  • To prevent speculation: it's pretty much safe to say now that Ryder left the Milky Way before big choices were made by Shepard (instead of BioWare making certain choices canon)

From this Kotaku interview

  • When you land on a planet, you don't just visit for one single objective goal, they want you to hang around and explore
  • ME:A will be a bigger game 'all around' compared to previous Mass Effect games
  • The journey to Andromeda took hundreds of years, so the game is set hundreds of years in the future

From this Polygon interview

  • 'This is a story about becoming a hero' (instead of a hero becoming a legend)
  • Ryders and his/her crew are much 'greener' than Shepard and company (but they do know how to handle a gun already)
  • It's a more 'personal journey' than Shepard's adventure
  • All technology and stuff will be 're-explained' for new players
  • The multiplayer doesn't(!) have a impact on the main story

From this Games Radar interview (with Flynn)

  • The Need for Speed team helped creating the Mako
  • Mako won't be doing crazy stuff anymore, like in ME1
  • Driving the Mako will be 'actually fun' (their words, not mine)

From this PlayStation Access interview (just Flynn)

  • We didn't 'warp' to Andromeda, it was a very long trip
  • 400 years is 'not a bad guess'
  • The protagonist has no connection to Shepard
  • It seems some new species can either be friendly or an enemy based upon player's choices
  • The Tempest has a lot to offer inside, interactions and stuff you can do
  • 'The Citadel looking thing' is important to the overall story
  • Only human is an option to play with

From this German Inside PlayStation interview (just Flynn)

  • Flynn says No Man's Sky is pushing boundries, and is scratching his head ('how do they do that?') and looking if BioWare can learn from it. The difference: Mass Effect is first and foremost a story. He seems especially interested in no loading screens.
  • You get to explore a lot with the Mako
  • VR is the future, I love to see Mass Effect in VR or AR

From this Gamespot interview (just Flynn)

  • Squad combat is still in the game, just like third-person cover combat
  • BioWare was thinking about not doing a fourth Mass Effect game at all
  • Most people from the original trilogy are now working for the new IP (a brand new original game) by BioWare
  • GameSpot heared rumours about 'a lot of tensions' at the studio, people leaving and such. Flynn confirms there are 'tense moments'.
  • GameSpot heared that gameplay features are being stripped out to meet the release date, Flynn doesn't know about that. Says there are 'a couple of modest changes, but nothing radical'.
  • Flynn has no concerns going into all the details of gameplay, but somehow the interviewer follows up on that with 'So moving on'...
  • There's a trick to wether femRyder is the default Pathfinder, but Flynn can't get into what that trick is
  • The male default Ryder is also finished, but BioWare liked to first show the female for a change
  • Flynn can't confirm a new trilogy, but is hinting there is enough animo at BioWare for new games after ME:A
  • The BioWare people were very depressed by the negative response to ME3's ending. 'We carry a lot of scars from that time, and took a lot of lessons.' (It's not clear if Flynn now agrees that the ending was bad.)

From this Eurogamer interview (just Flynn)

  • Female Ryder is in the promotion because people now understand that Mass Effect is all about creating your own character, so no epic male posterboy needed
  • The cover art seems to have a protganist on it, of which you can't determine it's sex. Just like DA:I.

From this - terrible, but hilarious - Brazilian Canal Uplay interview (with Flynn)

  • There will be references/easter eggs to the old games
  • We're not focussing on talking about gameplay
  • Players can see much more exploration than in old games, it will be more 'open and free'

From this French interview with Yanick Roy, that got translated on Reddit:

  • The player has a bigger influence on Ryder's personality, than he/she had on Shepard's personality (with the pretty vague argument that this is because of a new galaxy)
  • There are loyalty quests for squadmates
  • The multiplayer matches will be similar to ME3's but have more freedom and chaos
  • The Tempest might be customizable (but perhaps only cosmetic, again pretty vague answer)
  • Planets will have one 'climate' (similar to Star Wars, where one planet is completely desert, the other completely ice or jungle)
  • You can only play human, since the game is about humanity's place in the galaxy. Having a more defined character leads to a more refined story. Still, they're trying to 'give a bit more' when it comes to character customization.
  • The hero must find a new home for humanity and the other races that came along, and he/she is very versatile because this job requires many qualities
  • 'The order in which things are done will also have an influence'
  • Note that Yanick said on Twitter that a lot of nuance got lost in the translation and paraphrasing of the interview

Things that were already confirmed:

  • The female from the trailer is default (female) Ryder
  • You 'wake up' in Andromeda (so you're frozen/in stasis during the centuries long trip)
  • The new Normandy is called Tempest

A brilliant find by forum user N7HadroreX:

  • The big ship from the trailer is named Hyperion
  • Hyperion is one of the twelve titans from Greek mythology

All of this sounds awesome, for the most part.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to grab my pickaxe and hack out the giant block of salt that I'll need to take with that multiplayer blurb.

Oh come on, we won't even be able to control a mech? What kind of Sci Fi game does not allow you to control battle Mechs FFS?

Ryder woke up from a stasis pod. That means the ARK's journey to Andromeda took centuries.

It all sounds so good.

And I know it's controversial, but I'm really happy about Ryder having family. I like it when we can determine how our protagonist relates to people they're already connected to.

Here you go!

Thanks!

At least he's confirmed that there will be some links to the original games. I wasn't hoping for Shepard to be namedropped in every piece of dialogue, but acknowledgement of some of the events and major characters of the original trilogy is something I'm hoping for, just so this game feels tied into the same universe. It may be a different Galaxy, but it's still the same Mass Effect Universe, we don't want it to feel completely disconnected.

My main concern is the family. From a RP perspective parents and siblings are fine(just don't make their only purpose to die like in DA2), but I don't want to get stuck with a spouse and kids if I didn't want that for my character.

Especially if the game is going to try to use them as a cheap way to get me invested. Simply throwing a kid at me and saying "you care about them now" doesn't work and 50 hours later I've completely forgotten who the hell Shaun is or why I'm supposed to care about him because I'm too busy looking for more adhesives for my gun mods because every god damn mod requires it.

Ryder?  The fan nickname is canon?  Also, who was the ponytail girl in the trailer?  Was that the player?

It wasn't a fan nickname, it was mentioned in a leak a while back and the name was seen on some dogtags in a trailer. The ponytail girl is the female Ryder.

I wonder if any members of the Ryder family are squadmates similar to DA2's Bethany and Carver, or if they're civilian refugees on the Ark.

Fallout 4's approach was appalling. DA2's was decent.

I can actually envision it being a nice mechanism for some smaller, more low key storylines rather than anything big, dumb, or over dramatic.

I could work with DA2's approach, I just didn't care for the fact that all of Hawke's family basically existed to either die or be part of some other tragic event in hopes of pulling on the player's heartstrings.

That's more of an issue with the story though than the RP capacity.

Yeah I like the idea of that too as although DA2 might not have been the best DA game I liked the Hawke family and the trials and tribulations you go through with them throughout the DA2 story. If it can be done in such a way in that it dosen't take away from the main story I think that'll be good. Assuming that is that it isn't like a 3 part story like DA2 was with no specfic goal. Because I think in general games like this work best when there is just one general antagonist to deal with.
