Aggressive!MHawke and Carver is the best. Big brother give him a smack down every time that little **** open his mouth. He's way brattier to F!Hawke though.

I agree, but just for the sake of speculation...

Maybe they're sleepers for Cerberus bent on eliminating the alien species that came with us, and any locals, to establish human dominance. Maybe they're indoctrinated. Maybe they're swayed or controlled by some yet unknown alien antagonist.

Just the first things that came to mind.

How would a single/a few Cerberus sleeper agent/s pose a significant threat?

Why would yet another indoctrinated villain be at all interesting or even threatening to the expedition without Reaper support?

Why would some new form of indoctrination be any different?

It's contrived, crappy writing to resort to that sort of stuff.

So there were rumours that the N7 character we've seen in previous trailers isn't Ryder and is actually a villain in the game.

Now we've just learnt from Mac Walters that there's a "Ryder family" and that they're changing the way we choose and customise our protagonist in the game. This sort of sounds like there will be two Ryders; a brother and a sister. I'm guessing (and really hoping) that in character creation we choose to play as either the brother or the sister and the sibling that we don't pick will end up being the N7 villain. The sibling's facial features we change to reflect our chosen protagonist's face so that they look like they're related, that'd be something cool similar to Fallout 3+4.

The game involves tracking down your missing brother/sister (depending on what gender you're playing) and perhaps even having to choose whether or not to kill them at some point. I think that'd be an awesome direction to go with this whole Ryder family thing.

Either that, or the sibling ends up as one of our squadmates.

To be honest, I am expecting that too, it was the first thought that popped up in my head when he first said that.

Either that, or your sibling is killed by the antagonist in some fashion and it leads you to go for revenge while in a strange land.

My guess: the new "find and save the princess", which is "father+(adopted)"son"-or-"daughter"" relationship. This is a trend in awards-seeking video games with lazy writing right now. Started with The Last of Us, The Walking Dead and Bioshock Infinite, continued HEAVILY last year with The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, the last Batman, MGSV (among others).

Even the last DLC for SWTOR had a conflicted father/son story (writing in video games 101, ed. 2016: most of the times a son has a conflicted relationship with his father, while daughters have something more peaceful).

And we all know Mass Effect have a thirst for daddy issues.

Very curious to learn who are our "sibling"... Since the "brother/sister" relationship was already done in DA2, I expect this "father/son-daughter" thingy to be used again... But I also hope that's not the case.

...why would villain or murdered be the only options for a sibling?

First ones that came to mind for conflict.

Another idea would be alive but on opposite sides of a conflict, maybe not out and out villain/hero in this case, but instead both characters are working for the villain/hero factions of some sort, or simply trying to establish their own way in Andromeda.

Otherwise it would be a relationship like it was in Dragon Age II, one that was really well done and well handled, mind you, but territory they went down to before.

for MGSV? The conflicted father/son relationship between "Snake" (or the man who impersonates him) and Eli/Liquid. Same idea behind Batman and the "Arkham Knight".

On the surface this sounds like a horrible idea but if they execute it well it actually could turn out very cool too.

Why do we need a life or death conflict with our own sibling? We had conflicts with our siblings in DA2 without such melodrama. Why can't we just have a sibling that's an interesting, capable character with whom we can maintain a loving bond?

My guess is that whoever doesn't get picked dies. It's the easiest, laziest thing to do. My expectations are low. I'm gonna keep them there and will hopefully be surprised.

I have a few Shepards that I rp in my head that were brother and sister, going through the galaxy together, so it would be cool if we had that option.

It's called bull**** theory. When we have sibling protagonists in a Mass Effect call me. I'm way past the point of caring. Never coming back to this thread.

A petty, petulant God will force the Ryder siblings into a needless competition for the sake of vanity?

A couple of things I wondered about when I heard about Ryder's family.

  • Will we just play either the brother or sister or can we also play either mum or dad?
  • If we play mum or dad, will they kill off the husband/wife in the prologue to make way for future romance?
  • Will we be able to customize the family members we don't play like in Fallout 4?
  • If so, will we be able to customize their personality through dialogue options -or-
  • When we beat the game with one gender, will it be possible to have that character be our sibling when we play as the opposite gender, with their behaviour and personality being based on out decisions throughout the game using some soopah doopah snazzy mechanic?
  • If I play as a guy do I HAVE to have a sister? I kinda want a brother as I have just a sister in real life. I know this probably defeats the point of the CC mechanic but I wants what I wants.

You mean like the way you told me I argued against a theory that I was actually a proponent of?

We don't.

Why do you presume those are the only answers I think are possible, when I explicitly said they were the first that came to mind for you?

It's not an either or, you know. Well, from me at least.

As I recall what they said about the character in the trailer ( Ghost riders in the sky trailer) was that it wasn't the pc but a place holder which tells me that the model they are using in the trailer isn't the model they have chosen for the PC not that the character is a different person.

I think people are taking an off hand comment and running wild with it. Granted I might be wrong or I might have miss remembered or miss heard it to begin with.

They didn't say the character in the trailer was a placeholder. They just said it wasn't the PC. That's where this whole "N7 guy is the villain" thing started.

Who said I disliked any of my ideas? Why argue the point as if you are right about what you say?
