" I think, aside from the fact that we said the Mass Effect trilogy was a trilogy for Shepard’s story, which we have concluded, we were very careful to make sure that big choices like that [the Mass Effect 3 finale] wouldn’t impact your decisions."

"From that, you can probably infer the timing of when they [the Andromeda explorers] left, to a certain degree."

Yep, been discussing this in other threads. He wasn't even really cryptic about it - at face value, he is straight up saying that the endings don't matter and you can very obviously deduce from that a pre-ME3 ending departure.

The trailer showing the Arks in orbit of a non-burning Earth places further constraints, making a pre-ME3 departure most likely.

Yeah, it pretty much had to be pre-ME3, but the exact timing will be interesting...

Indeed. It's looking more and more likely that the Ark ship(s) launch before the Reaper invasion, or at least before they hit Earth.

But that wouldn't make sense, because allegedly noone believed Shepard about the Reapers.

I'm holding on to my prediction we leave before the Genophage is cured. Possibly before Reapers arrive.

But after Arrival DLC.

Mac said NONE OF THE MAJOR DECISIONS IMPACT ON ANDROMEDA

Which I take to mean we're off before the Genophage question is even asked let alone answered.

Except if you recall the Citadel Archives in the Citadel DLC, you know that really isn't true.

Did you not play the Citadel DLC? It confirmed that the Council believed Shepard, and only publically denied the Reaper threat. And placing that information in the Archives with data on Sovereign demonstrates they took it seriously since the Battle of the Citadel.

This is actually a better quote. Mac doesn't use the word ending at all when he is talking. Although he is addressing a question about the ending he actually says "we were very careful to make sure that big choices like that wouldn’t impact your decisions."

"From that, you can probably infer the timing of when they [the Andromeda explorers] left, to a certain degree."

That implies it was before any big decisions were made including the genophage cure.

It would certainly make the most sense, and fit with what the trailer showed.

I do feel that contradicts their actions throughout ME2. I strongly believe the writers at that time did not have the intention of the council believing Shep. Their lack of action to address the threat would be criminal. But it's a minor retcon I guess I can live with.

Yay! Quarians and geth aren't completely impossible yet!

...Though the latter's a pretty long shot. But yay! Quarian optimism. And the assurance that the Milky Way's entire plan wasn't "Rely on Shepard to build this thing that we don't even know what it does". Which I always felt was a flaw in Mass Effect 3's story. I mean, really?

The other piece of information from all this is that MEA will start as they arrive. Although this was always most likely, it was possible they could have started it a few decades or more after arrival so they had time to build some towns and get established first.

Lol I love how he says "we were careful". Pulllleeeeeeeeaze. It's extremely easy to say the ending doesn't matter. There's nothing careful about that.

What actions? Not giving Shep help? He was just resurrected by a human terrorist group. Of course they wouldn't help him. Not finding a way to stop the Reapers? They very clearly were researching them, as both the Archives show, as do Alliance projects like that in Arrival and Leviathan.

Besides, they were probably supporting this Ark project in secret for that entire time. Just like real politicians, they are two-faced - if anything, that makes their public denial even more believable.

Not doing anything to combat them. Not doing virtually anything to research the collectors. There should have been a massive military build up. And yes, they should have at least been open to lending Shep support. Anderson did support Shep and he clearly didn't know about the rest of the council having this belief.

And then of course there is the question about the incarceration between ME2 and ME3. If the entire council believed Shepard you wouldn't have had the lockdown for diplomatic reasons.

Why not? The political realities are the same either way, and there's nothing obvious that Shepard could have been doing between Arrival and ME3 that would have helped.

If we left before mass effect 3, that would really mean only m1+m2 matter imo

Do you mean Arrival and ME3?

Sorry but I can't even see where you are coming from. There are hundreds of things. Your companions had the right idea. You could help Liara track down information about Reapers or Protheans. You could help Miranda/Jacob/Alliance investigate and monitor Cerberus, you could bring some of that tech back to the alliance. You could prepare a genophage cure in case you needed the Krogan as shock troops. You could help Garrus with the Turians who finally started listening to him. You could help Grunt investigate the rogue indoctrinated rachni etc etc

But even beyond this there were heaps of things you could do to mobilise and train troops and prepare disaster plans for survival and communication. You could forge the alliances that you had to during the war. Everyone was so badly prepared it wasn't even funny.

I'm pretty sure that while the endings won't effect anything it may be referenced in some dialogue. Maybe. Like they say they want to move on but I'm sure the MAJOR choices and perhaps who your romance was will be said in light conversation.

Edited. Thanks, Malanek.

Shepard did bring Cerberus tech back to the Alliance, and neither archaeological digs nor genophage cures are in her skillset.

Or maybe right before the war began. I think, maybe ME2 period. Knowing that we were probably doomed, the council decided to send this ship to Andromeda. That way, the ending wouldn't matter. The chars in this game wouldn't know what happened.

Shepard did bring Cerberus tech back to the Alliance, and neither archaeological digs nor genophage cures are in her skillset.

And yet its sort of what Shepard ended up doing in ME3. Both Mordin and Liara could have used help with handling thenon-technical details, even having a kickarse ship that was confiscated by the Alliance would have helped. And Miranda and Jacob could have used help. Shep brought back whatever tech he had at the end of ME2, but Cerberus had a lot more. Even staying abreast with what they were up to would have been productive. Sitting in a cell isn't.
