Is there a list somewhere that details all the effects of serious lag? It'd be nice to know how much is performance issues, and how much lack of skill. I've been playing higher difficulties lately and while the credits are nice, my team performance is highly questionable - I'm usually near the bottom of the scoreboard, and die a lot!

Amongst other issues that I've noticed:

Tracking shots - dodging doesn't work. Despite moving round corners or dropping into cover, enemy fire almost always hits. The sole exception is Ravager's triple shot which I can avoid if I'm at medium range and drop before they fire, or at extreme range and drop at the first shot, though it will still hit and shred my shield.

Paper shields. Other folk seem to go toe to toe with enemies. Me, even surviving in cover is hard! Most enemies seem to shred my shields in no more than a shot or 2.

Priority target? Maybe it's partly a matter of paper shields, but it seems the enemy disproportionately target me even when there's others who are closer\doing more damage.

Not getting damage credit. I pump entire magazines into enemies, and usually start\end with a power, but often only get minimal assistance credit. In at least one case I was the only one damaging an enemy, who I killed, and all I rated was an assist not a kill.

I've also seen some seriousness weirdness that I'm assuming is lag related - impaled by phantoms, or grabbed by banshees, going through the entire death sequence ... and then resurrecting to continue fighting.

I realise some lag issues are common - the Ops Pack effect only happening after you collapse rather than when you need it for instance, or the Vanguard staring stupidly at an enemy as they gun you down while you wait for Biotic Charge to work ... or not, but how much else is lag based?

Yeah, those are definitely lag related. I keep dying too like that, always last in the score and I always tell the others it's freaking LAG but they don't believe me!! They just call me SCRUB and NOOB, such meanies!  :crying:

Would be much easier to compile a list of the things that actually works when playing with bad lag, it would be a very short list......

Rubberbanding is something I know is lag related. I have that sometimes too. I'm mostly stuck playing with Europeans and the like so with a ping of roughly 400 ...

First of all: Hi. You where in the lobby this morning but I had to leave because of lolwork.

I'm going to try to answer some of your questions, but there is no general rule on "how to git gud" or avoid the "working as intended" issues.

Is there a list somewhere that details all the effects of serious lag? It'd be nice to know how much is performance issues, and how much lack of skill. Basically if you play on a host with high frame rate it gets more difficult. You can try this and reduce the frame rate on your host.

Two things. check http://forum.bioware...ggro-mechanics/

Enemies will go after you if you got already hit.

Second thing is: l2RHA. Enemies can't hit you behind cover. Abuse Right Hand Advantage and train your situational awareness. Geth scanner helps a lot (but can't replace situational awareness and knowing spawn locations)

Not getting damage credit. I pump entire magazines into enemies, and usually start\end with a power, but often only get minimal assistance credit. In at least one case I was the only one damaging an enemy, who I killed, and all I rated was an assist not a kill.t, but how much else is lag based?

Could also be lag related. Most important on higher difficulties is to use piercing mods or AP ammo.

I've also seen some seriousness weirdness that I'm assuming is lag related - impaled by phantoms, or grabbed by banshees, going through the entire death sequence ... and then resurrecting to continue fighting.

Could be lag related. But (mostly on host) it is possible to escape a sync kill with a well timed Ops pack.

That's all for now. These are more general advices, if you have more specific questions don't hesitate to ask.

Invulnerability by being ignored by AI. I guess it happens when the host has largely written off the lagging player and doesn't bother updating the AI for that target anymore.

Invulnerability, tactical cloak going haywire (I've been invisible for a whole game before), grenades don't work, can't take cover, can't revive, can't climb ladders, serious rubberbanding, guns reloading after only a few shots, headshots a few seconds after my gun fired, invulnerable enemies.

Welcome to my world. XD

There are basically 4 major major angles (influences) to this OP, from the stuff you listed in ur post:

  • Angle 1) knowledge game mechanics (stuff that frank already gave tips on)
  • Angle 2) effect of lag (remember lag is not always constant, especially mobile connections have high variance, so that it is often difficult to guess whether the enemy actions are 'in parameters". The most visible effect is rubberbanding , and being killed before you see the enemy in front of you. Last one is compensated by "reactive-predictive" shooting - shooting a spot where the enemy was 3 seconds ago. People used to high lag don't even consciously know that they are doing it)
  • Angle 3) levels (difference between silver, gold, plat - example multiplicative factor for power detonation are different ) + hitpoint differences for " enemy classes" (see angle 1)
  • Angle 4) platform. With so much intransparent mods happening on PC, a new player in 2016 on PC has more difficulty than a new player in 2012 to figure out what "normal enemy patterns" are. If you have only ever played in modded games , I doubt that you can predict with 100% certainty which enemy takes how many shots from a particular weapon + equipment loadout (amps/gear/) + character+ powers.

I had to WORK hard one day to get killed. I led the charge of the Geth toasters against my teammates for 1 anna half waves. Couldn't reload, couldn't shoot. Sucks when you can't HM either.

You start wearing your baseball cap backwards, riding your skateboard everywhere and - if left untreated - could end up becoming this kid:

I tipping towards : HM =Her Majesty,

alternatives were

HM - High Maintenance : Having teens that only wears Prada can be HM.
using HM for human male would be just ludicrous

Dat sentence construction tho, CAT, can be improved...

...Macgyver?

Possibly.  Though at this stage, I'm half-convinced everyone who lived through the 80s looked like MacGyver at some point.  Even the ladies.

When lag becomes radicalized, it's time to send in the anti-terror hamsters.
