Source?

All I see is 80% of shepards made being male. I know several women who play male shepards because he's used in promotional material.

If I may be blunt, some ladies just enjoy looking a male backside throughout the game. As my husband likes to say when he's rolling his female characters in games: "If I'm going to spend a lot of hours looking at a butt, it might as well be a nice one."

Nice to see you floating around, by the way. :D

This makes no sense.

If you're saying that outrage over the way she looks makes no sense then I agree whole heartedly.

I don't personally feel attached to it but she looks cute in a 'regular girl' sense, determined and most of all less experienced.

Which I think is the whole point, she isn't a legend yet.

I think if they show the male character at least once to give a perspective then it doesn't matter which gender they use to advertise.

They did actually show the male character in the trailer, just not without the helmet. We'll see him in the future.

it is always to big in games.
It is always very aggressiv

Not true. Femshep's chest wasn't really big.

And as Natashina said:

@Duke I disagree there. I felt big breasts fit Isabela's look and build, same with Miranda. I also liked seeing characters like Merrill, who was on the smaller side. As long as there's some variety, and it's in proportion with the character's build, I'm happy. Besides, boobs are awesome. ;)

I prefer variety that the exact same body model on every character. That goes for male characters as well.

That's what I find appealing as well. She's quite pretty, but looks like a real person to me. I probably won't use that preset without modifying it first. Hair and eye color, plus some other tweaks. I have a weakness for putting a touch of makeup on my female characters.

I've also been looking forward to a story like this for a few years now. It was one of the few things that DA2 tried to do and mostly succeeded at. It'll be a nice change from being treated as a hero from the start. If they do a trilogy for ME:A, then that slow progression could play out nicely. We'll see.

It's based on female, so using male character is nonsense.

I might still using male character just for romance sake.

Huh?

The name might be an homage to a woman, but that shouldn't preclude a male PC from starring in at least one trailer sans helmet. It's like the same argument by some that FemShep can't be the "canon" PC because Alan Shepard was a man. There's room for both to be shown and they should give us a view of more CC options for guys too.

Equality and all that jazz.

Depending on what final concept I decide on for my character, I think I'm going with the default if it is modifiable. The face fits the character so I'd only need to change the color of the skin, hair and eyes as well as add freckles and some scars if those options are avaliable. I'm trying to make a character that looks basically adorkable and I feel this face looks the part.

For me, I'd want to change the hair color, eye color, add scars and a touch of black eyeliner with some red lipstick. I'm probably also going to pick a different eyebrow style and tweak the nose some.

That would looks silly, they decided themselves to use female as a model.

Don't worry you can still make male character too as you can make female character in ME Trilogy.

Model of what? That's just the pre-set female PC. They already said there's a male model as well, and some devs are using him to play the game. And they said that they'll show him as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing more the male PC as well as the lovely lady in the trailer. The name Ryder is related to Sally Ride but there is no good reason I can think of to preclude seeing a male PC. Not one. The name is nice, but I think you're reading too much into this.

As far as gender choice goes, I know that. That's been a staple of BioWare games for close to 20 years now and I've played most of them. The point was that I would also like to see a guy in a trailer as well and I personally think it's the right move to make. I know about the marketing of FemShep for the first trilogy and that it wasn't handled very well. That doesn't mean that the ME/EA advertising teams should do the same thing with male Ryder. That would be silly and unfair as hell to the male fanbase. I don't agree with Dutch's claims, but I do believe in some balance.

I have to wonder who subscribes to the insane troll logic that FemShep isn't canon based solely on Alan Shepard.

I mean, isn't that the same as saying that Male Shep cannot be "canon" either because his default name isn't Alan, but John? Or that neither are canon because two of the backgrounds have us born not on Earth, at no point do we hit golfballs on the moon, fly the Mercury 7 mission or suffer from Meniere's disease?

Shepard was named after Alan Shepard, the first American in space, while Ryder seems to have been named after Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.

As a guy I much prefer seeing the lady protag. Wouldn't mind not seeing MRyder at all. (Fem Shep is best shep)

This site doesn't lack for entertainment, that's for sure. When trolls get bored, they break out all sorts of weird crap.

My dad has Meniere's. Didn't know that Alan Shepard had it as well. Learn something new everyday. :wizard:

Yeah, I know that. And Shepard can be of both genders, both have their pre-sets models, and in ME3 femshep appeared a bit more. Other then that, DAI shown that they want to rapresent both genders in the marketing campaign.

And again. Bioware said already we'll see male Ryder.

I read that earlier. It makes me smile, and I'm looking forward to it quite a bit. Especially since they are using mo cap for the character animations. :D

unfair to the male fanbase really?

Do people have to act like they penis size is being reduced by the fact that the promotional stuff will be centered around a female figure?

Not that the constant bitching about the absolute and undeniable NEED of a marketing campaign that revolve around a female is less stupid

What canon to you, don't have to be canon for others, everyone make their own canon Shepard.

This time they decide to name it after a woman, don't mean you can't have your own canon male.

It's simple yet so much demanding.

I definitely want to see the scanned face they gave manRyder. That alone is much more than they did for femShep in the trilogy (her face a travesty).

I'm lucky that I have access to mods. There is a mod I use for Shep in ME3 that makes her look a lot closer to her concept art.

There is no default Ryder according to Walters however there will be one for the promotionals and marketing. And that default Ryder will most likely be female instead of male as seen in their latest trailer.

Just some facts to show how illogical it would be if it were the case.

ME3
>82% created Sheps were Males in contrast to 18% being females

Alienating 80% of your fanbase is marketing suicide. Let's see what Bioware does in the future.

                                                                                     <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

Dutch, my man, that was a fantastic swing and a miss!

You came up with that piece of logic while smoking something. Right?
