Will I be lost if I play this game before the first 3 ME games?

I'm not a ME gamer, despite loving the DA games. So, I'm wondering if I start with Andromeda, am I going to be super lost in understanding what's going to happen. I am finally interested in playing a Mass Effect game (just not the first three)!

It might be too early for any fan to know this, but I hope somebody from Bioware can answer this question before the game's release.

Well, obviously none of us has played the game so we can't tell. But based on what they've said I don't think you'll have to worry about playing the trilogy. Think of the relationship between MEA and the previous games as being along the lines as that between the DA games, except with even less returning characters (we are unlikely to see anyone from the trilogy in MEA, and if we do it won't be anyone too important).

Personally, I don't think so.  Some people like it and some people didn't, but there was an element among the people that didn't who had a lot of free time and a surfiet of aimless frustration to focus.  If you want to know why people don't like it unspoiler the following:

At least it won't require Steam.

Much better than Origin, but I would prefer it to be standalone, as in you click the icon and the game boots. No need to sign into any BS, no need for any online connection when booting, no hassle, just play the game. I miss those days

I would recommend skipping ME1-3 just jumping right in. This will be an entire new start and no sense getting yourself attached to a character who has a very controversial ending. However, if you are into self-inflicting pain then go for it. You will love it.

With every release of a new Mass effect game BioWare will state that it is a good point to jump into the story. This is the first time I believe it to be true. I would still recommend starting with the trilogy, seeing as it would give you more of a background on the species of the milkyway. Oh, and the trilogy is pretty good, so you would probably enjoy yourself doing so.

Going way OT here, but how is Steam better than Origin, then? Both have the same requirements as far as the stuff you mention goes. The main difference I've noticed is that Steam has to update far more often, which delays launching the game. I guess that's the advantage of Origin having fewer features I don't use.

Also, in practice, don't both systems let you just click on the icon and have the game boot? That's how my system runs, whether I've disconnected the WiFi or not. (That's as close as I can come to simulating a bad internet connection.)

I cannot explain why Steam is better than Origin. It just is. Steam has a lot more content than Origin, mod support for certain games, better in game overlay, better store page and game suggestions, as well as things other than games, such as modding tools, etc. Origin just seems like it is trying to copy Steam, but is failing.

Also...

So Steam's got a lot more stuff? Yeah, I get that. But I prefer to manage mods myself, never use the overlays, buy games from wherever they're cheapest and never take suggestions, so all of those features are, at best, useless to me, and at worst they contribute to loading delays.

While I doubt the trilogy is any kind of requisite to get into MEA, I'd say that the entire trilogy's always worth giving a go from beginning to end, provided you don't mind buying it.

On the topic of Origin, I hope with all my heart that I will not have to open that shite up for ME:A. I know my wishes will go unfulfilled tho.

Unfortunately that's the way gaming is giong now even if you'er only interested in the single player element of a game you need Origin or Steam installed to access it.

Here is what you need to do...

Skip Mass Effect... It's too old and clunky.

PLAY MASS EFFECT 2!!! Man! It's a top 10 game of all times!! The cartoon at the beginning will put you up to speed on the prequel

If you want more, play Mass Effect 3... But be warned! Butt hurt at the end... According to rumours, the arc left the Milky Way during the reaper invasion, so, if you get through the "arrival DLC" in Mass Effect 2 or the Mass Effect 3 demo, you'll be up to speed.

I hope this wasn't a troll post...

Origin has much better customer service, although they'd win that simply by virtue of the fact that they have customer service.

People like Steam because they've been using it for a long time. Not much to recommend them beyond that. And honestly, their involvement with the paid mods debacle suggests to me that they're a lot more evil and stupid than EA.

Origin actually comes out on top as far as the specific service goes, if we're looking at Steam/Origin/Uplay. GOG is probably the best one out of all them.

Mass Effect 1 is the best game overall in the whole trilogy. ME2 and ME3 might be more fun to play, but they're real stupid from the word go.

I agree. I needed Steam Support for something once, but before I could find the contacts, I gave up after spending an ungodly amount of time.

Origin Support, however? Courteous, helpful, and when I had a problem, they gave me a discount code as an apology for my problems, on top of helping me solve it.

As such, I tolerate Valve, and like EA. Call me crazy!

I think it's more that ME1 hides the stupidity better.

Doesn't really matter; at this point the sensible thing to do is to pick up the whole trilogy anyway and see which ones you like.

Thanks, guys....  :) I'm interested in the open world exploration in ME:A. It looks like they're doing what Bioware did with DA:I with the separate open world areas all over the place, except they'll be on different planets. Has so much potential because each world can look totally wacky and not Earth-like at all!

I'll certainly see if I can get into the ME trilogy. I believe I can rent it on my old PS3, if anything.

The first time I played was with the Extended Cut, which was supposed to remedy what fans complained and hated about the original. I still felt an emptiness inside me when playing. But you slowly accept it, and life goes on. Hell, if you really cannot get over it, there are multiple mods which change them slightly.

I have however heard of people who do enjoy them. tbh, there is no right or wrong in art, and video games are Art

There are even multiple mods for different endings ?

I do not know how most people see the ending ( good or bad ) but what i have red here so far on this forum is that the majority doesn't like the ending of ME 3 and when i saw the spoiler i can understand why i think i am one of the majority to.

I was not implying that there was anything wrong with your imagination just how you will envision the possibilities but i will say no more so you can make your own decision,

I mean there are more than a couple mods, which aims at changing the entire endings, or part of some endings, etc. I do however feel like you should play it vanilla and try to get used to them. Mods are really just to spice things up a bit, at least in Mass Effect.

Hmmm...Not anymore. It definitely was when it first came out, but EC is sort of acceptable. It doesn't really hold up to the rest of the trilogy though. For my money, play on the PC and install the MEHEM mod. You'll thank me later.
