Some of us have been stressing out regarding the fact it will be 7 squadmates more or less and all our favourite Milky Way species couldn't be part of the squad without loosing the opportunity of having new species in the squad.
Then, with the new trailer I realize: it's not necessary we once more have a turian, quarian, asari, etc. in our squad in order to see them and interact with them. However, they could be an important part of the ship Tempest.
Think about it: in all three Mass Effect games we played in human vessels. That's why the only multicultural reference we had were the squadmates. That's why it was important to have a turian, a krogan, an asari, a quarian, a geth, a salarian, etc.
However, maybe this time we are part of a bigger and multicultural reality. We are milkywayers, we need to stand together. That can be very challenging when every single species are going to prioritaze their own people as once Ashley Williams pointed out. Hell, even the trailers don't stop talking about Humanity, our home as humans, etc. (though I think it could be linked with the fact it's easier to give that vibe to a new gamers who don't know anything about the previous trilogy).
That's why I think in order to pursue a collaboration within milky wayers, the representatives of each species would like to be represented in the Tempest.
So, this way we could have 1 Krogan, 2 humans, 1 Asari (for example), 1 turian (for example), and 2 new species as squadmates but at the same time our driver or ship technician can be a salarian, our doctor can be a volus, a quarian can be our communications expert, a batarian our chef, etc. They maybe are not part of our squad, but they can be relevant to the plot, befriended or romanceable as well as Traynor, Cortez in ME3, or Cullen, Josephine, Lelianna in Inquisition.
