I've seen a lot of talk on here about MEA being a "soft reboot." Would someone mind explaining what one is?

In the context of this game, it seems to mean "non-direct sequel".  It's a similar situation to the GTA games, where games share the same ficitional world and some characters, but the settings and the majority of the characters are different from game to game.

And it's a way to keep the setting without committing to a canon ending for ME3.

Or so most of us are assuming.

I think it's safe to assume the chromatic suck field of ME3's ending doesn't extend out to Andromeda.
