Truth be told a prefer killable.

They should all be able to die.

I always recruit everyone the first time.

Make them all killable and optional so we don't have to deal with BSN babies crying about their least favorite character being "shoved down their throat".

I like the option not to have certain followers sometimes... though I usually recruit everyone. I like how in DA you had the potential to not have Zevran, Fenris and Vivienne join you... (or kill them in Zev's case)

I think that two really ought to be mandatory and assigned to us at the beginning of the game, and the rest should be optional.

But I'm also in favor of there being consequences of turning down help, in the sense that there are potentially situations that an optional companion could offer invaluable help to us, and we lose access to some of the most optimal solutions without them.

Meh... if I don't like a character enough that I want to get rid of them there is probably something about the overall story that bugs me far more. For example in DA2 my least favorite companions were Anders and Fenris because they were just reflections of the mage/templar problem, a sub-plot that has always annoyed me.

At some point sure but some should survive so they can make media.

I like it better when that's up to the player.

I'm not demanding it or anything or disagreeing with you. I'm just saying that even when you bring everyone out alive, it feels better knowing they could have died.

Recruiting should be a choice too I guess but I like that moment when you're all like "Oh, ok. I'll remember that when it comes time to save your life mate."
