It was fun earning Spectre status but Shepard was already one in spirit if not in name. The only reason he wasn't one already and they made him do all those hoops is because they didn't trust humans due to Saren screwing over Anderson.

if Anderson was already a Spectre, it'd have been easier for Shepard and other humans to became one, yes. Though it should be noted that the trails with Nihlus are something every Spectre candidate has to do.

It should be noted also that humans are, as far as we know, the only non-Council member species ever considered to be part of the Spectres, twice. It's not only about trust.

It only felt long because of elevators, it's essentially the end of the prologue.

Look, you start this hysterical thread because you didn't read the article and didn't get by younger they meant greener. Now you seem to understand it, and blame the journalist for you not reading the article past the headline. And then you also claim BioWare is wrong because Shepard was a rookie in your eyes (and they think he was hero that became a legend). This is just being angry for no reason, and then finding new reasons to be angry for no reason.

I did read the article. People are interpreting it as meaning "greener" but that's not canon, it's an interpretation. Clearly the journalist either interpreted he meant "younger" (backed up by the younger protagonist at the end of the trailer) or she misinterpreted the source entirely.

My thread is about hoping it's the "greener" case, not the "younger" case. Clearly written with some hyperbole.

Why would Bioware be wrong? Shepard was a "rookie" in his program. He had to be evaluated and tested in his mission to earn spectre status. He didn't fall out of the sky and become king without doing anything.

I think you're just missing all the points.

I'm saying the journalist was wrong because she explicitly says "younger" in the title of her article.
Journalists are constantly misleading like that in modern sites nowadays, so I get it. Although when push comes to shove and people are debating the meaning of the source regardless of how the article was written, it's something to consider.

Note that journalists typically don't write their own headlines. Blame the editor.

I'm going to split the difference. I'm betting Ryder's a bit younger than Shepard, but not that much. Say, 25. So we're not talking The 100 here.

True, it was fun to go through especially given their hesitation and all that went down on Eden Prime, but it doesn't mean Shepherd isn't already an incredibly strong and dangerous character at that point since he wasn't some ordinary soldier...he was N7 which is like being a member of Delta Force, not being a basic grunt out of boot which Ryder technically isn't even that probably.

Yeah when I used "rookie" it was probably too ridiculous a choice of word. He was a candidate who still needed to prove himself.

Think it positively younger cast will make it possible for some of them to reappear in future installment.

You said he was a rookie in N7, so compared to other human soldiers. Keep digging.

Humans grow up to be a 150 in the Mass Effect universe, Krogans and Asari live for centuries. That possibility is already there.

It's more likely we are going to experience what Shepard experienced off screen when s/he had to survive in Akuze, led that butchery in Torfan or saved Elysium during the Skyllian Blitz. I understand your concerns, Addictress, the fear of an infantilized version of Mass Effect but I don't think that can happen. Even if the characters are  younger, if they act as responsible adults in the verge of survival we will probably don't care about their age  ;)

(I'm 27 by the way, TEAM-ALMOST-THIRTIES!!!! :wizard: )

I thought N7 was the highest rank of soldiers, not just any soldier. But I guess N 1-6 are just grades within the military academy, not military ranks.

N, and indeed any rank, is level of proficeincy in a particular speciality.  1-7 being the ratings, N being special forces.  A military 'rank' is, essentially, how much control you have over other people and the numbers.  It is a status of how good of a leader you are and how much you have served.

N7 isn't a rank either, it just means the person has completed the highest level of special forces training available.

Honestly, I don't think the PC will be any sort of commanding officer, at least not at first. Which I'd prefer. Leader of a team, sure.

But there would probably be some event that causes them to take more responsibility.

I am 59 years old. I love my kids and love playing rpg games. Frankly OP, I would love to play a 16 year old colonist like Shep from Mindoir thrown into a life or death experience. I would love to have been a part of Sheps experience in becoming an N7 agent. What was involved? How challenging was it? I would have loved to be a part of Sheps molding process into becoming a galactic hero. With Andromeda, we have this chance to grow and age with our protagonist. Or, at least, I hope so.

Beyond even even this, my fondest hope is that Liara and Shep's child will make an appearance and be romance-able. That would be the coolest thing ever for me... even if she is 500 years old and I am 20.

Isn't 500 years 20 to an Asari anyway? :P

Old age and deviousness beats youth and enthusiasm.

Also, people under 25 belong in kindergardens. Now get off my lawn.

It's not a rank like lieutenant or commander. It's the highest designation of Special Forces training. Only the best of the best of the best attain it through hard work and diligence. N7 is more than that though. It's a symbol. I believe the protagonist is N7 even when other don't. It means too much to bioware. They even have a day named after it. Ryder is N7. They given us too much evidence.

Except they have said we are not the N7 that we have seen in the trailer.  SO at the best we are another N7.

I guess it's not the pettiest umbrage that I've ever seen taken about a video game. Still, despite being cleverly disguised as a thread complaining about characters being different ages, it is, in reality, another "cater the romances to my personal tastes or I'll complain" thread. I'd take a drink each time that happens, but I've been known to push my liver's capabilities enough as is.

I believe they were ******* with us. We saw him in trailer with two of our confirmed squadmembers and on the ship by the Tempest control panel in the 2015 one, it was an said TMP. We saw him with dust on his armor and in leaked images. we saw him at gameplay leak spot in trailer with Krogan. male protag. They said at E3 2014 or comic con that he had something to do with N7. In the leak the antagonist is a guy without the N7 and it hasn't been wrong. Its probably the guy thrown off the platform. N7 means too much to bioware for them not to make the protagonist N7. We saw someone in white in trailer. Another suit we can wear.

The title of the article?

Haha. Fair enough. I never read the title. That tells you how little the content had in common with the title, in my opinion. The article itself makes no mention of age, and in no way made me even think of age, just experience.

We won't be playing the Lt Commander from Delta Force who has won two Silver Stars, this time. At best, we'll be playing an Army Ranger. She might be hella trained and capable, but she's not an already established, living legend.
