I read a post elsewhere that suggested maybe this is a Dragon Age 2 thing where we choose a family member rather than a single person to shape. So like choose which Hawke to play as.
If Ryder here has an older brother for an option, I think that'd be cool.
Could be more than just her brother, but that could be the two story points for male/female character creation and like DA2 the rest of the family changes to follow your decisions on looks/etc. Who knows, maybe she has more than one sibling.

Yes, it was confirmed that their is a "Ryder family", and that character creation involves selecting a family member to play. The video interview is actually available for viewing. Fogg has a great thread going with links to all the interviews in the headers above the related content. (Best thread in the Andromeda forum!) Its the "Mac Walters stopped by..." thread.

Beware of the young man who will become that old man. You're a soldier? Cop?"Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young"

I definitely don't mind the fact that we are possibly looking at a cross between DA2 and FO4 with regard to family. Choosing one family member to portray, yet having ties to other family members throughout the game. While it doesn't guarantee that I'll have a connection with my 'family', I couldn't help but feel protective of that big lug Carver and that, definitely shaped my decision making on DA2. Hopefully that will happen again here.
Plus, the whole "family-less hero" thing is an overused cliche that doesn't apply to the overwhelming majority of real people anyway. It's a nice change of pace ![]()

As someone who is 2 years from 30, please don't make me feel creepy hitting on 20-year-old teammates. Please.
Also I don't empathize with children.

You aren't hitting on 20 year olds, Rhyder is, and she is an appropriate age to be hitting on 20 year olds.
Besides which, Younger is mostly referring to experience level (Shepard starts off a badass, 2nd in command of ship with a rank of Commander, and possible entrance into the Spectres a super elite organization) and probably just means late 20s early 30s. An 18yo protag would be silly.

But that is only a guess, while the old man IS there.
Of course this is no absolute truth. ![]()
No, only have a sibling and some friends in the army.

ME has always been for a more mature audience. Shep to me anyways seemed to be in her mid to late 20s. I don't see that changing much this time around.

That's because Shepard was in their late twenties to early thirties. Their age each game was:
ME1: 29
ME2: 31
ME3: 32

I hope there's a chance to also CC the would-be relative. I find its annoying in DA2 that it all come out random... I kept getting stuck with a white pansy Carver while his mother and sisters look exotic but noooope..
As for younger characters, there's Mission Vao in KOTOR, there's Mako in SWTOR, DA2's Bethany and Carver was in their late teens I think. As long as the characters were developed and well written, I won't mind their presence... although I would rather not tolerate another pansy little brother.
But for romance, I simply hate innocence and purity fetish crap with female LIs especially for characters like Liara who was over a century old but acted like a prepubescent girl. I don't know why Shepard tip off sexual predatory flag in my head whenever he talk about having sex with her. Of course, she turns out to be an overly attached girlfriend who turns out to be an invasion of privacy expert who would love to keep your corpse as her interior decoration.... which apparently is romantic and adorable..... please no more Yandere LIs...

Jokes aside, personally I do think the comments taken do mean younger = greener and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Shepard was already rather experienced by ME1 so having a team of rookies to experienced somewhat will be interesting.
Ryder DOES look young, yes, but the you can still RP and create your Ryder as anything you want them to be.

I'm sure there'll be different types of characters to romance, same as with the previous games. Even though it may have seemed otherwise, you didn't *have* to romance Liara
The romance was a bit wonky though yeah.. but well it worked for a lot of people. I don't think they'd make every romance-character the same in that regard.

Inexperienced green crew?
Fine, to be expected after a VERY long trip.
But try being a few years over 40.....I may like my men younger, but.....I don't want to think I could be their mother.

I find myself intrigued by this as well. My only sort-of concern are threads about romancing the family member you didn't play XD

The more I read, the more interested I become in the ME. I have not seen a family structure beyond the lose tree association in SWTOR. I just hope this doesn't mean that BioWARE won't let you play a customizable character.

Also, it could be that the old man has developed old man skills (guile, patience) that he didn't have when he was younger.

Where was it said that the team would be younger? Less experienced aka not the war hero Shepard is from day one doesn't equate to a 20 something crew.

I think the idea of younger is the combination of them saying it's a "greener" crew on top of the fact that the female PC we saw in the trailer looks rather young.
I imagine if they do have a "canon age" for the PC it'll be early to mid 20s.

Sure but young man has Flory days still ahead. The ability to learn, acquire new skills, etc. Old man had his time. Now you must learn from him. Respect your elders. But that's not knowable until later.

Being old doesn't mean you're lacking in the ability to learn and acquire new skills.
