Agreed. It's great to see more representation all around. I've been feeling really positive about the victories feminists have won in entertainment. Star Wars has a female Jedi and a black male lead; after many horrific seasons, women are coming out on top in Game of Thrones; CDPR has taken criticism of their games to heart and removed many juvenile elements, though still retaining many; the Ghostbusters remake features awesome funny women; female led action movies like Hunger Games and Divergent are blockbusters; and the list goes on. In many ways, it's been a great few years for feminist entertainment.

Love the name choice, btw.

Thanks! Not 100% sold on the Ghostbusters movie but I'm going to give it a shot. Dan Akyroid gave it thumbs up, so worth a look. The trailer is 50/50 for me, some of the jokes are ok while others are flat but it could be lack of context. Going to take my nephew with me to go see it.

Hunger Games, as a story in and of itself, was just ok as well. I read the first book and was rather bored....it wasn't bad just didn't grip me. The movies worked fine I guess, and I stay away from Divergent like the plague (I work at a bookstore, it's just more of the same from Hunger games.) They aren't so so because it's women, it's just that I feel they're mediocre...but that comes with equality :P

It is nice that we're seeing a greater emphasis on diversity in movies, but I would be careful of picking people just based on trying to diversify versus people actually deserving it. The gaming industry has been making good strides by showing you can do more than just a male dominated game which is nice so we can have more variety in stories regardless of characters.

As someone who is 2 years from 30, please don't make me feel creepy hitting on 20-year-old teammates. Please.

Also I don't empathize with children.

:unsure:  :unsure: Feeling concern  :unsure:  :unsure:

Only one way to sum up this thread.

Female empowerment is a welcomed addition. I do agree.

My main problem is when its used as a political tool.

Men want women to be equals.

Men just don't want their future wives to be husbands.

Yea, free of political or pandering reasons would be great.

As for the last time, I mean some men want husbands, what's wrong with that? :P hehe

I am. I'm not as excited for it as I was for Star Wars but I liked the original. I'm looking forward to watching it and love the cast. Here's to hoping it's good.

Although I don't 'think' in that manner, I will respect that 'some' have that preference.

*shrugs*

As for the main topic, I think the age of these characters changes the audience. If 'Mass Affect: Andromeda' consists of young cast members, I have no problem with finding a more mature game. I will just keep my distance.

Even if the main cast is mostly early to mid 20s that doesn't mean that it's not going to cover mature subject matter.

Lets just summarize rather than age or whatever, the game looks dull, simple as that. I think this is just a symptom of the greater disease.

Hunger Games and Divergent skew a bit young for my tastes so I can't comment on quality; I just like the fact that female led action books/movies are doing so well. Oh and my kick ass niece adores those series so there's that!

The thing is that we know so little about the game, which makes it hard to say much of anything about how it looks at the moment.

Yeah the trailer was pretty dull but then, so was the entire press conference for EA. Their entire motto seems to be "Let's talk about how awesome our stuff is rather than letting awesome gameplay speak for itself".

I think EA, and by extension BioWare, are taking the wrong approach to showing off their games here.

Well they don't have any game developers or game designer type people just writers and stuff, some probably game minded artists and/or programmers, but yeah also basically no interest in getting such people, so they are in this awkward position of making a video game without the skill set for it.

So naturally they're just going to tell us how awesome it is rather than showing it because it doesn't exist.

It's funny too because if there were video game people making a movie it would probably sell 3x what a normal movie would lol.

Guess it all depends on what you like, and that it can change over time. Lot of my co-workers like both, so I guess there might be something to them but unfortunately most of the "Teen" section is all rehashed ideas. To be fair, it's not usually my cup of tea, either, but there isn't anything wrong with that.

We'll see, they may be saving big big reveals for N7 day so they have more time to polish and work on it. I don't want too much revealed too early, movie trailers are horrible at it and I hate when games do it especially ones so heavy with story.

I didn't think it so dull, just more like a teaser than a full blown trailer, anyway.

That's not how it works. Very rarely do you just get purely "idea" people, almost everyone on the team puts in work at a desk on a computer with code at some point.

Their writing staff might not be as hands on to the computers, but they're usually INCREDIBLY hands on with the people (giggity,) and stay involved because they're so integral to shaping the world step by step. From cinmeatics, to dialogue, to how things look, feel, and sound, they work with all the teams to make things come alive instead of just flat shapes and locations.

You don't get a triple A title made by not having the people capable of making it. Especially not with a company (greedy as it is,) like EA with the money to provide a robust enough team.

How naive you must be to think they've got nothing done without the people to finish the product. Just because the trailer was short and didn't show much just means the marketing team is holding back for later dates. I'd say you're issue was valid if this were an Indy project or a less successful company.

That was a very long way of saying you got owned playing games a long time ago.

Heck Patrick Weekes outright stated he could not beat KOTOR, the simple fact is that if you took the creme de la creme of the fans on this board here and put them into game design roles the product would be 4x superior to what "EA/Bioware" has in mind. If I had the authority I'd do that in a heartbeat and send all these game devs to the wayside.

At any rate, Bioware was an indy project or "less successful" company, their first project they literally just hired a whole bunch of people who had never made a game before and who drew robots on napkains. So the reason they got where they are now is because of what they did then, so you are.

Wrong.

I really, really hope our player character is not an N7 at the start of the game because considering the training, it'd be hard to buy that they are green or greener than Shepard and their squad since it is mentioned that trainees acquire combat experience in actual combat zones. There is also all the things that the training entails.

Here is what it says about the N7 training on the Wikipedia;

"Initially, candidates train for more than 20 hours per day, leading small combat teams through hostile terrain with little sleep or food. Trainees who do well are awarded an internal designation of N1 and are invited to return. Subsequent courses - N2 through N6 - are often held off-planet and include instruction in zero-G combat, military free-fall (parachuting), jetpack flight, combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics, and frontline trauma care for human and alien biology.

The highest grade of training, N6, provides actual combat experience in combat zones throughout the galaxy. If the trainee survives these scenarios in "admirable and effective fashion," he or she finally receives the coveted N7 designation. N7 is the only ICT designation that may be worn on field or dress uniforms."

It is true that successfully completing the ICT program do not elevate the graduate to a military rank. It's a designation that is applied to Alliance personnel who have graduated from ICT program;

"N7 is a vocational code in the Systems Alliance military. The "N" designates special forces and the "7" refers to the highest level of proficiency. It applies to Alliance personnel who have graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program."

"Although ICT qualification by itself does not guarantee higher rank, those officers who are able to complete the program are typically well suited to senior leadership positions."

So that's why I was confused.... if you're N7... you basically just graduated West Point, but you might still be considered a rookie in the actual military?

It's basically also a way to train and prove yourself in a more or less safe enviroment;

"There is little shame in failing an N course - the training is so extreme that even qualifying for N1 elevates an officer to a position of respect. The universal prestige of merely attending the academy helps to restrain trainees from taking excessive risks in pursuit of higher honors."

It's laughable at best to claim that they "don't have any game developers" or even that a normal programmer lacks the skills.

That seems likely but then I have to wonder why even bother having a showing at EA Play?

Of course the entire EA press conference felt that way. It wasn't just limited to ME:A. It seems like EA in general would rather talk about how awesome their games are rather than show us and let game footage speak for itself.

Who seems to show any knowledge or passion of games though? The last person who seemed vaguely aware of that was David Gaider and he's gone.

That one guy... the beard... uh Mark Darrah, although he seems sort of unconfident at times.

That's just judging the hundreds of people working at BioWare based on the half a dozen or so of them that actually make public statements. In this case, there's only two people I can even think of making public statements because there's just been so little information about the game.

Brojo used to post on the ME3 MP boards all the time and played quite a bit. As far as I know he's still at BioWare since he still posts on these boards on the odd occasion.
