A bunch of Justin Biebers and Selenas? IS THIS WHAT WE ARE GETTING?
Remember, we also get family.
"I told you to be back by 10pm! Have you been hanging out with your weird Pathfinder friends again? You're so grounded for next week!"

They are going for another Hawke I take it, which is not a bad thing per se. Yet, Hawke was ~24 at the beginning of the timelne. I'd say anything younger would be a bit off for me. 32, would work just fine - experienced, yet not too old.
Eh, you can always headcanon your Hawke as older. I've seen some people create much older Hawkes.
I'm just scared I won't relate to them like I did the original crews
If we're going with the idea that in order to related to a character you have to be around the same age, there is absolutely no way to deal with that.
Although it's worth noting that Tali is technically still the Quarian equivalent of "underaged" in Mass Effect 1 and Liara by her own admission is "barely an adult" according to the Asari.
Oh, as a matter of fact, I am a '95. You just understood differently. What I meant is that I'm born in the year 1995. Misunderstanding
Thanks mate. Don't drink all the booze!
Happy birthday, scally wag! ![]()
This is actually correct.

If the writing's good, they'll write the character's young but keep the language universal, without the slang.
Lack of combat experiences.
If the ME universe has taught us anything, it's that discoveries are often accompanied by violence.
Not just combat experience, life experience and situational experience.

Yah, they won't start saying things like, "Pop 'dat dope freeze" and then all stop to take a selfie with stupid looking duck face. Or whatever the kids are saying nowadays.
Not sure why this is a problem? Age doesn't matter that much, just give me Interesting characters.
Hm well younger doesn't bother me but I think in this topic we have a strong emphasis on "age number" as the pure indicator of that quality.
I've seen people who are like 27/28 that seem younger/healthier/more attractive than people 21/22 although granted it's not typical or normal per se. Like some people thought 18 year old college roommate was a parent LOL. There's also people who are 28 or whatever and seem like they're 40 or something.
So I don't mind emphasizing younger players/characters but personally I don't really jump to conclusions or otherwise basing things entirely on the known age of X or Y.
Anyway if it really bothers you could always play Kratos in that new God of War game, =-P
Just look at the setting of this game:
Its an ARK. They need some time to get a hold in the new galaxy, and then they must be still young enough to have a lot of kids. So it makes a lot of sense to put a bunch of barely grown ups at the Ark and just add some veterans for guidance.

As someone who is 2 years from 30, please don't make me feel creepy hitting on 20-year-old teammates. Please.
Also I don't empathize with children.

Kinda makes sense, now. That Asari did look like a child and the protag is probably in their early 20s.
Well, hopefully I can use the CC to make my protag look older.
Andromeda - Hunger games.
God help us all.
It was hilarious in DAO when Dadda Cousland called you son and you looked like his father lol.>>>>>>>>>>(0)>>>>>>>>>>

Most military folks are pretty young, at least for junior enlisted (the majority of all military personnel) and junior officers. Most junior enlisted are probably within the range of 18 and 25 years old, and lieutenants ( the most junior officers) are relatively recent college grads. So the cast being young has an element of realism to it *if* these characters are privates, lance corporals, and lieutenants or whatever their Alliance / Arkon equivalent is.
If on the other hand these named characters are higher ranking officers like Lt. Commanders or Majors, or senior enlisted like Gunnery Chiefs and the like, they should be people with at least 8 to 10 years in the service. Think Shepard in ME1.
The main character being a Lt. Commander and the ship's CO or the ship's platoon sergeant (Ashely in ME1) being teens or early twenty somethings would be completely implausible. It's the equivalent of a recent high school or college grad being placed in a senior management position within a corporate office. Just as that would never happen in the corporate world, it would never happen in the military. There is no teacher quite like experience and you have to demonstrate competence before being given that much responsibility.
Mass Effect doesn't have to be Tom Clancy in space, but the writers could use more attention to detail when delving into the military / space program aspects of the story, and avoid the terrible Sci Fi habit of having characters inexplicably promoted into senior management or command positions despite having zero experience. Some attention to detail makes parts of the game universe seem plausible, more immersive, and aids in willing suspension of disbelief.
The article this whole stupid thread is based upon talks about the characters being 'greener' (not a decorated war hero yet, that's introduced in the first few minutes as the Alliance's best that is the perfect candidate for Spectre). It's even mentioned that they are not so green that they don't know how the handle themselves in combat. But somehow people rather yell at stuff instead of reading it.
Since the average gamer is 31 or something, and RPG's tend to have a more mature audience than other genres, there's no way this will be The Hunger Games in space.

I'm guessing they're gonna play the, 'Yo, you're actually kinda new and shitty at this, but literally everyone else important is either missing, stuck in cryo or dead, so... Have this sweet spaceship?' card. It's the Hero of Ferelden approach.

Still better than giving the flagship of the fleet to a fresh cadet who flunked his exams and then snuck aboard by feigning illness 'cause... I dunno, the plot said so?

I'm 24 so I actually don't care if the protagonist and crew is or isn't younger
You young kids and your rap and (what more is it they say)........... and you beltless jeans. get a haircut and get a job!! ![]()
They aren't going to give us a bunch of teens as our party. Is this all about the youthful look of the female protagonist? (Or maybe it's that little Asari thing. I believe she was an animation demo, likely to change dramatically before we see her again.) You're totally forgetting about the big, bad ass Krogan and battle-hardened female (human? asari?) squadmate we've seen in the protagonist's presence. They don't look like teens to me.I wouldn't feel any emotional investment tbh.
I would not care if any of the cast members lived or died.
*sigh* I want to care
