(Thought the "hide post" button would just hide the comment from the person who decided to reply bashing the Dalish, rather than the entire thread. Oops. Reposting.)

I've been listening to the Hamilton soundtrack pretty much nonstop for the last several days, and while it was playing the idea of filking it to make the songs about my Inquisitor.

1.01 Inquisitor Lavellan
(to the tune of "Alexander Hamilton")
(With all due thanks and apologies to Lin Manuel-Miranda and to Bioware)

Original here: https://www.youtube....h?v=Iz4-gGX8Y00

VARIC TETHRAS:
How does an outcast, Dalish, daughter of the elves
Keeper of a people who all keep to themselves
Sole survivor of the explosion that tried to end Justinia's mission
Grow up to lead the Divine's Inquisition?

CORYPHEUS:
This upstart elf, knife-eared fool forgot herself
But she took her companions, made them fight as one
Until she could see it done
Until the war could be won
Within months she gave Thedas an entire new fate, son

MOTHER GISELLE:
And every day while Venatori spread their vile slaughter
From Haven first, then Skyhold, she acted like the daughter
Of the Chantry, seeing it through its darkest hour yet
Lavellan was ready to beg, steal, borrow, or barter

CASSANDRA:
When the Venatori came, and devastation reigned
Lavellan saw that there was hope when our hope waned
Gave the Inquisition its mission, our songs a new refrain
Led us to a new day, by setiing aside the past's pain

SOLAS:
Well the word got around, they said "You must be insane, elf!"
But she saved them all, gave it all, with no thought of herself
"Lead the Inquisition, save us, make a name for youself
The world's gonna know your name! What's your name, elf?"

INQUISITOR LAVELLAN:
Inquisitor Lavellan
My name is Inquisitor Lavellan
And there's a million lives out there to save
But just you wait, just you wait

SERA:
When she was ten, at the Blight's end, given to her Keeper
To learn all the elfy secrets her mentor could teach her
Wand'ring the Marches' snow-swept lands
Feared no man

COMPANY:
She thought she'd just be Keeper, fate had other plans

JOSEPHINE & COMPANY:
Her Keeper sent her to spy, to attend the Divine Conclave
The Anchor in her hand, our world she alone could save
A lesser being might have just fended for herself
That's a lot of pressure for the world to put on just that one elf

SOLAS & COMPANY:
There would’ve been nothin’ left to do
For someone less astute
We would’ve been dead or destitute
Without a coin of restitution
But she put past pain aside, chose to rise, not to die
Led the Inquisition's mission, spat in Corypheus' eye
(Scammin') for any way, no price too high to pay
(Plannin’) for the future, see her now as she says, hey (oooh)
From Skyhold mountain, we will make a new way
In Skyhold we can find a new way

COMPANY & LAVELLAN:
In Skyhold we can find a new way (Just you wait)
In Skyhold we can find a new way (Just you wait)
In Skyhold we can find a new way

WOMEN:
In Skyhold
MEN:
Skyhold

LAVELLAN:
Just you wait

COMPANY:
Inquisitor Lavellan (Inquisitor Lavellan)
We were waiting in our fear for you (waiting in our fear for you)
You could never back down
You never got to take your time
Oh, Inquisitor Lavellan (Inquisitor Lavellan)
When Thedas sings for you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they know you rewrote the game?
Thedas will never be the same, oh

SOLAS & COMPANY:
She stood that day in Haven, no matter what you say
(Just you wait)
An upstart elf, with her help, we would find a new way
(Just you wait)
Her enemies attacked her rep, Thedas yet stands to this day

CASSANDRA/BLACKWALL/IRON BULL:
We fought with her

HAWKE:
Me? I died for her

LELIANA:
Me? I trusted her

SERA/JOSEPHINE:
Me? I loved her

SOLAS:
And me? I'm the one who betrayed her

COMPANY:
There's millions of lives to save now
But just you wait

SOLAS:
What's your name, girl?

LAVELLAN & COMPANY:
Inquisitor Lavellan!

The first time I posted this somebody decided ton post a response bashing the Dalish, so since it had nothing going to do with the topic of my post, I tried to hide it. There are plenty of other topics where people can do that.

Ahh yes. I, who has not one but two Dalish protagonists as canon, dared to joke about their stereotype.

In more civilised countries, that is properly punished with relentless whipping and submerging in icy water.

Alas, we've grown far too lenient.

Well, I haven't seen Hamilton, but it definitely seems like a good start. The only two musicals I happen to be personally familiar with are Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar, alas.

Trying to imagine the Inquisitor singing made me realize just how quiet she tends to be in the main game. How in-depth would this go into her personal backstory?

It will go as in-depth as I can manage while still retaining the rhythms and dramatic beats of the original songs. Haven't had a chance to start on any of the other ones yet, but if you'd like to compare what I wrote to the original you can find the soundtrack on YouTube.

While I haven't considered turning a BW game into a musical (although, I recall something about dancing darkspawn in the old forums), I did run across the song "Sleepwalking" by Bring Me the Horizon... or to the horizon or whatever... when I was randomly looking up DC character tribute videos on YouTube.

It was for Superboy Prime, but listening to it also reminded me of Solas with a Lavellan romance (which I've never done. Again, YouTube). It was more of a heavy rock, technoish music, but I can see it working in a Solas tribute vid.

Seeing "Lavellan" and "music" in thread title reminded me of that.

Anyway, have fun with exercising your creativity.

I'll have to check that out - thanks for the recommendation!

Going through your song's lyrics, I instantly got a Disney vibe from it but couldn't quite place why.

I was hoping to get them all written in the same order as the songs on the soundtrack, but my muse had other ideas, so here's the fourth song from the show:

1.04 The Story Of Today
(To the tune of "The Story Of Tonight")

LAVELLAN:
I may not live to see our glory

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, & SOLAS:
She may not live to see our glory

LAVELLAN:
But I will gladly join the fray

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, & SOLAS:
But she will gladly join the fray

LAVELLAN:
And when the minstrels tell our story

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, & SOLAS:
And when the minstrels tell her story

LAVELLAN:
They'll tell of what we did today

SOLAS:
They'll tell of what we did today

CASSANDRA:
They'll sing of what you did today

VARRIC:
The story starts with us today

SOLAS:
Raise your hand to seal them
Seal the breaches, save us all today
History will remember
Raise your hand, drive the demons back

CASSANDRA & VARRIC:
And we will always have your back

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, & SOLAS:
Telling the story of today

LAVELLAN:
They'll tell the story of today

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, & SOLAS:
Raise your hand to seal them
Drive the demons back into the fade

LAVELLAN:
No matter what they tell you

CASSANDRA & VARRIC:
They'll tell of what you did today

SOLAS:
Raise your hand, drive the demons back

CASSANDRA & VARRIC:
And we will always have your back

LAVELLAN & SOLAS:
They'll tell the story of today

CASSANDRA & VARRIC:
We'll tell the story of today

LAVELLAN, SOLAS, ENSEMBLE:
They'll tell the story of today

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, ENSEMBLE:
Raise your hand to seal them

LAVELLAN, SOLAS, ENSEMBLE:
They'll tell the story of today

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, ENSEMBLE:
Raise your hand to seal them

LAVELLAN, SOLAS, ENSEMBLE:
They'll tell the story of today

CASSANDRA, VARRIC, ENSEMBLE:
They'll tell the story of

COMAPNY:
Today

I could see this being a thing somehow. There is the singing part with Leliana in DA:O and then in DA:I, so maybe that adds to me thinking that? I know nothing about musicals or Broadway but who could have seen a play of Alexander Hamilton becoming such a hit?

First thing I thought when seeing this though is that Sera would probably sabotage such a musical with hilarious pranks.

I been working on a song about the Elvan inquisitor to the tune of  "Battle Hymn  Of The Republic" and still have a long way to go.

I'm treating this like somebody decades (or, as with Hamilton, centuries) later writing a musical about what took place. I'm definitely going to have to work Sera into more songs than Eliza Hamilton got though, because while she wouldn't be alive anymore by the time this opened anybody trying to do her character justice would have to let her break in and add her opinions about things.

That. Is. AWESOME. When you finish it, I would love to read it.

Finished another song! The original song is about Hamilton and Burr singing to their children, but the more I listened to it the more I realized that this was the big romantic number to close the first act with.

1.22 My Dear Lavellan

(To the tune of "Dear Theodosia")

SERA:
My dear Lavellan, what to say to you
We won this day
We forged a brand new way
When I thought that you were lost, I was sure it'd break my heart

I'm dedicating everyday to you
Domestic life was never quite my style
When you smile, you knock me out, I fall apart, you are always in my heart

We will guard against threats to our nation
I'll bleed and fight for you
I'll make it right for you
If we lay a strong enough foundation
We'll build a world that's new
We'll do it, me and you, and we'll blow them all away
Someday
Someday
Yeah we'll blow them all away
Someday
Someday

LAVELLAN:
Oh, Sera when you smile I am undone, vhenan
See what we've done
Pride is not the word I'm looking for
There is so much more we can do now

Oh, Sera you outshine the morning sun, vhenan
When you smile, I fall apart and I thought I was so smart

My parents weren't around

SERA:
My parents weren't around

BOTH:
I swear that I'll be around for you

SERA:
I'll do whatever it takes

LAVELLAN:
I'll make a million mistakes

BOTH:
I'll make the world safe and sound for you

We will guard against threats to our nation
I'll bleed and fight for you
I'll make it right for you
If we lay a strong enough foundation
We'll build a world that's new
We'll do it, me and you, and we'll blow them all away
Someday
Someday
Yeah we'll blow them all away
Someday
Someday

LOL! I don't think my Lavellan is nice enough to get a musical... But eh, I dunno - he kind of deserves some music, but not a musical though

Finally discovered that the Fan Creations forum exists, so after today I'll be posting anything else I write for this over there:

https://forum.biowar...an-the-musical/

I wrote another one today, so I'll post it here, but he rest will be over there.

1.17 That Will Be Enough
(To the tune of "That Would Be Enough")
Original here:

SERA:
Look around, look around at how lucky you are
To be alive right now
Look around, look around

LAVELLAN:
How long have you known?

SERA:
A month or so

LAVELLAN:
Sera, you should have told-

SERA:
I heard you talking to Solas a month ago

LAVELLAN:
No

SERA:
I begged him to say he lied

LAVELLAN:
You should have told me

SERA:
I'm not sorry

SERA:
I know you'll fight until                                                               LAVELLAN:
The war is won                                                                             The war's not done

But you deserve to live after it's done
Look around, look around at how lucky I am
That you're alive right now

LAVELLAN:
Will you relish being a dead elf’s wife
Don't know how long I can cling to life

SERA:
I relish being your wife
Look around, look around

Look at where we are
Look at what you've started
The fact that you're alive is a miracle
Just stay alive, that would be enough

And if I can
Have a moment of your time
And a moment of your smile, look out world!
I'll make that enough

I don't pretend to know
All the challenges you're facing
The days that thing's erasing, how long we have until you're gone

But I'm not afriad
I know who I married
So long as I can say that we had one more day
That will be enough

I don't need a legacy
I don't need armies
If I could take away your pain
Just let me stay inside your heart

Just let me be a part of the narrative
In the story they will write someday
Let this moment be the first chapter
Where you decide to stay

And that would be enough
And we will be enough
That will be enough
