I wasn't sure if it made more sense to ask this here or over in 'Custom Content', so please move it if it belongs there.

Description: I've encountered a potentially game-breaking bug and I was wondering if someone here could help me figure out what's going wrong. I do have a number of mods installed, including the 'NWN2 OC Makeover SoZ Edition', which I suspect is causing it to happen.

I've reached the point where you take control of Crossroad Keep, but the game crashes right after the conversation with Nevalle. I can get around that by taking Zhjaeve out of my party after arriving at the Keep but before entering the Courtyard. After that, the game crashes whenever I try to put her back into my party. I can stop that happening by copying ROSTER.rst from an earlier save into my latest one. Even then, however, the game crashes every time Zhjaeve is supposed to gain experience (like during the Malarite encounter on the way to Arvahn). The 'givexp' console command also causes the game to crash when used on either Zhjaeve or my main character. The game doesn't seem to mind if I use the Character Editor to change her XP total, though, and it also doesn't seem to have any problem with other changes to her character, like adding or removing Feats, or switching her equipment around.

My best guess is that a script is fired upon first arriving at Crossroad Keep that sets some kind of flag on Zhjaeve or somehow partially removes her from the roster, but I can't figure out which one or how to fix it. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

not really.

I do know it's really hard to crash the game with a script. Crashes are usually caused by no-directX, missing model-parts, graphic stuff, in my experience.

If possible you could/should try renaming your player-folder and letting NwN2 create a new one - then copy your save in and see what happens with a clean /Override.

whether or not it's caused by the Makeover Edition, if you get in touch with Kaldor he knows a thing or two ...

Number of Mods installed, incluluding Kaedrin's?

Possibly the Con fix problem.

"I simply installed Kaedrin's PrC 1.42.1, set "UseConFix" to zero in cmi_options, and called it good."

Talked about here:

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't expecting any for a while.

kevL, I don't think it's a graphical issue. Like I said, Zhjaeve can be in my party without too much trouble, as long as she doesn't gain experience. I also don't think using a current save with an empty Override folder would work very well. All of my characters are using at least one feat, spell or class that isn't in the vanilla game.

Axe_Edge, it's actually kind of hard to say how many mods I've got installed, because I've merged a couple and made some additions of my own. It's quite a few, though, and it does include Kaedrin's pack. I've turned off 'UseConFix' now, and it didn't fix the problem, but apparently turning it off is a good idea anyway.

I've done a bit more tinkering and discovered a few things. For one thing, the reason the game was crashing after the conversation with Nevalle is because that conversation ends with you getting 500 experience. I also checked an earlier save and found that the crashes after getting experience with Zhjaeve happened even before going to Crossroad Keep. Since the problem doesn't seem to have been caused by a dialog or a plot-related script, it probably has nothing to do with the Makeover. Sorry about the false accusation.

And while I still don't fully understand why it happened, I think I may have more or less solved the problem. I started a new game, then copied zhjaeve.ros from the new save into my old one. After a bit of experimentation, it turned out that the crashes only happen if she gains experience while she has levels in any class other than Cleric. So until I learn more, I'll just have to keep her a pure Cleric, which is unfortunate, but not exactly game-breaking.

If anyone can offer further insight, I'd still like to hear it. I also wonder if I should expect any problems down the line as a result of using versions of ROSTER.rst and zhjaeve.ros from different saves. Generally speaking, though, and until further notice, you can consider this problem fixed.

know, if keeping Z a pure cleric works, do that.

I do know I've used her as a Stormlord to be the "auto win button"

-see and KNOW what I did there?

An update if anyone's interested:

I'm playing through MotB now, and the exact same thing was happening with Kaelyn. Given the obvious similarities between her and Zhjaeve, I tried to figure out what set these two apart from everyone else. It wasn't just the fact that they're Clerics, because I could multi-class an Aasimar Cleric in SoZ. It wasn't just the fact that they're NPC-only Races, because I could multi-class both Gann and the Construct, even to Cleric. It turned out that for some reason, both Kaelyn and Zhjaeve were assigned the wrong Racial Type when their .ros files were first generated. Fixing this seems to have solved the problem with Kaelyn, but not with Zhjaeve.

The Racial Type was clearly part of the puzzle, but there's still something different about Zhjaeve that I'm not seeing. One thing I have noticed that's probably related is that she's not getting the level adjustment she should have as a Githzerai, even with the corrected Racial Type value.

As before, if anyone has any answers or suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.
