So I've not been following this as closely as I have some of the past games. I know that they haven't told us much, but what HAVE they told us?

How many squaddies? Who are the confirmed squaddies?

Cora is a biotic, right? What else do we know of her? And Drack the krogan? Anything else?

Is that young looking asari a squaddie?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Actually, I'm pretty sure a dev confirmed it over Twitter.

 

My guess? Asari from trailer, krogan from trailers, maybe the salarian guy, probably a turian (maybe female?), Cora (blonde female human, supposedly), male human, native Andromeda alien.

Just like ME3. What a disappointment if that's true.

Why? Having more companions diluted the writing content between them. ME2 had far too many. DAI as well, considering that we got three other major characters in the advisors outsite the team. I liked both games' companions, but having more companions isn't necessarily better.

2 Human male (Obligatory)

3 Krogan male (Drack)

4 Asari (Cora the biotic)

5 Salarian male (As seen in EA Play Trailer)

6 Synthetic male (I trust the OP, as for his source, well see)

7 Turian female (Garrus's popularity will ensure the species shows up, and turians are an important council race, but I hope it's a female this time)

 

It seems the next thing to consider is romance, so giving everyone options:

 

Human female (interested in men and women)

Human male (interested in men and women)

Krogan male (interested in men only)

Asari (interested in women only)

Salarian male (not interested)

*Synthetic male (interested in women only)

Turian female (interested in men only)

 

 

*Probably a David 8 (Cerberus made) and Shaw (Ryder) type deal, with a great climax

7 is a nice number.

This what I think too for the squadmates, but I'm not sure the salarian will be playable. Maybe just a  NPC ?

Also I would love to have a spot for a native andromeda alien...  the Synthetic character.... well I'm still not fond of the idea but I think it was confirmed... or suggested by a leak.

 

The LI .... I don't agree at all with your repartition, I love aliens and according to this, the only one femryder would have is an asari ? noooooooo thank you ... (also I think the asari will be for both genders)

Also maybe npc will be romancables, it would be nice, like on DAI.

 

I told this already on another thread but If they give us a straight female turian for maleryder only, I will be so disappointed. I really want her to be for both genders (also turians are popular among female players, they shouldn't take those characters away from us). I still have hope for a male turian for femryder, why not after all, everybody would be happy that way. One of them could be a squadmate, the other a NPC, I don't care.

Also I think Quarians and Drells should be added as LI, NPC certainly. People ask for them and LI are all about adding fun on the game so I just hope they will pick the right choices. Maybe a native from Andromeda too ? would be nice... ME3 had  8 LI, I think it's a fair number ~

I actually think that this is a good thing. The biggest issue I have with a large roster is that it inevitably results in a number of the team getting benched throughout the game. As much as I enjoyed Inquisition's characters and thought that they were all written pretty well, Blackwall, Vivienne, Cole and to some extent Iron Bull stayed behind quite a bit. I had the same issue with ME2. Thane, Samara and Kasumi didn't really go out that much with my Shepard, the first two pretty much not at all except for their loyalty missions. And it's worse with Mass Effect in general when the cast is bigger, because you can only bring 2 characters as opposed to the 3 in Dragon Age.

 

With 7, I think that I can shuffle through the entire cast for all of the missions and still feel like I got substantial content out of all of them.

I would love it if the salarian we spotted on the bridge of the ship with the protag(?) and the krogan is a squad member. Would be awesome for another salarian squadmate, preferably female given we've had Mordin, though I know the problems and lore issues that arrise with a female salarian squadmate.

They've said they don't want to show off anything that isnt finished or polished. There's a fair amount of effort in that scene with the Asari there's even things going on in the background.

 

I don't think it was just to show off the wonderful facial animations. 

 

So fairly sure she'll be a squaddy.

I'd prefer not to have another synthetic squadmate. Let the native squaddie have some unique powers outside of the usual biotics-tech-combat triumvirate and then spread the other 6 across the standard classes.

IMO we'd be better off with only a couple of romance options for each gender and have them more in depth. Being able to bang everyone on your crew - particularly those aliens that share very little culturally or physically with humans - is just silly.

IMO we'd be better off with only a couple of romance options for each gender and have them more in depth. Being able to bang everyone on your crew - particularly those aliens that share very little culturally or physically with humans - is just silly.
 

I agree, I really want to play with a new species, always fun also he/she can have different competences than the MW species.

 

Edit : BTW, even if I agree about not having too many romances (still think 8/gender is a fair number, it's not all the crew, really... not less than 6 if possible), I really want to have the choice between various sort of characters (we all have different tastes). My character was single on ME1 for example because there were only few choices and none of them stole my heart. To be honest, without Garrus, I certainly won't have done any romance on ME.

But the remnants are an extinct species like the Protheans, right ? this is how I read it, maybe I'm wrong (we had Javik on ME3... who knows ?)

I also think there won't be just 1 friendly new species (or hostiles)

Well, considering DAI's route, they can make a quarian LI which is a member of your ship and not your team. Like Cullen or Josephine.

If we have 7 squadmates it's almost surely we'll get some LI outsite the team in any case.
