Should it take place while we are still in the Milky Way as we are making our way to the Ark or should it be when we wake up after we arrive in Andromeda?  I would prefer a prologue that takes place in the Milky Way it would probably provide time to explain the motivations for leaving and we get one last moment in the Milky Way.

Depends what you mean by prologue.

 

I can see them doing something like they did with Mass Effect 2 in Andromeda in terms of the prologue. By that I mean have an opening cutscene that sets the stage, and then maybe a five minute section where you are heading to your Ark or your stasis pod. As you do that, you can overhear some things like people's reactions to what is happening. When you get to the Ark or the stasis pod, it goes to another cutscene of the Arks leaving and heading to Andromeda. Once it shows the Arks arrive at Andromeda, it goes to your stasis pod and that is when the character creation starts.

Well, my original hope was for a snapshot of life aboard the Ark on the voyage to Andromeda, but since we're doing the cryo-stasis thing instead of the generation ship thing... I dunno. Probably something involving Ryder's family, but a good deal more in-depth than what we had with the Hawkes in the prologue of DA2.

 

If we're gonna have parents, or a brother/sister, or whatever, BioWare would do well to try and build a relatively organic relationship between them and the PC as quickly as they can, so as to prevent the, 'The game's telling me to care, 'cause we've got the same last name, but I just don't know you well enough to roleplay this properly' issue.

How about a prologue where the ark is already departed and our pc is looking out at the milky way as they're being called by ai holograms to prepare for cryosleep. In the ever increasing distance the ark incurs our pc narrows their eyes as the milky way shows of illuminating lights throughout it's vastness, in a very low and distant sound something familiar horn like could be heard as our pc focuses all the more. Before any of what we- our pc briefly sees/hears could be realized our ai holograms onboard the ark urge our pc once more to prepare for the.. deep sleep.

I would say the Milky Way part should just be a cutscene to explain what's going on and then we get to customize our character just before leaving cryo sleep.
