did anyone else make the connection between the very last shot on the destroy ending, that teasing 'last' breath and the intake of breath from our new protagonist? a nod or just a coincidence...

Not sure if it's intentional...but I wouldn't put that symbolism past them. Good catch!

Might have been a final nod to Shepard.  Thing is only High EMS destroy got the breath

It was probably intentional, but I doubt there is a real meaning behind it.

A couple of youtubers catch the conection as well as you did. Well done ;)

It's a very nice symbolism

Or she just woke up from a hundreds of years long artificial nap.

Right, that's the reason in-fiction; the potential symbolism is a different thing entirely.

My suspicion is that it was indeed intended as a link to Shepard, 'cause coincidence is rare in storytelling. Besides, the concept of the Death of the Author would posit that, if a decent argument can be made for it as a nod to Shepard, then it is, regardless of authorial intent.

Even if it's purely coincidence, which it could very well be, I think I'd rather personally see it as a link between the two.

No harm, no foul in that. Bioware may even like that even if they didn't come up with it.

I'm having trouble reading this, I'm seeing a lot of bull**** on this comment. But honestly, It means nothing. I'm surprised at people, making that connection.

I laughed at this.

No, I think that it's probably a coincidence. Shepard's breath was a gasp for air after his/her lungs collapsed upon crashing into a large pile of rubble at terminal velocity. Ryder's breath was one of relief; "We made it...".

This hurts me.

But it's probably true regardless.  Shepard lost both his arms and legs but managed to survive for a few brief moments before being engulfed in napalm.

Though, that little bit for the destroy ending is probably so you can decide for yourself, but it's not likely they did it to go "LOL GUYS LOOK, HE'S MANGLED AND DYING."

....I hope. :P

I don't even think he/she had a head either at that point. It was probably just a breath of air escaping his/her windpipe through his/her (saying that just got repetitive) throat hole.

I think it's just a coincidence and was unintended. We are also seeing things out of context, so take that into account.

Who knows if the story starts there? (There might be a pre-cryo-sleep prologue (kind of ME2 style) or even a mission or two in our galaxy ("Final Preperations"))

Might have more impact this way, too (just waking up on that Ark would be anti-climatic!)

People are really starved for solid info huh?

What if she had farted instead.......would you be able to make the same connection with that?

Depending on what ending I picked, this is either a good catch or coincidence.

I'm not up on modern ending hate. Where's the napalm coming from?

We'll have to see something pre-launch. They're not going to just throw out that shuttle footage.

The "We made it" feels like them being excited to escape harsh fire from fans after the endings, finally being accepted again-only to be attacked for not giving us info.

The trailer provides the context- it's the first time fans are seeing the for-sure new protagonist in motion, and it starts with a dramatic breath, just as Shepard's last moment could be a dramatic breath. Nothing else really needs to be known for it to work as a callback within the context of this trailer.

Maybe (probably) unintentional, but nevertheless a neat connection to make.

This is not random data.

This is not something you watch in the street and you think that is a signal.

The trailer was created by developers in order to give us a vibe, a feeling. That parallel between the ME3 Destroy ending and this trailer is made on purpose.

That doesn't mean Destroy ending is canon, it's more a tribute about keeping the legacy in a new form.

That doesn't mean we would have stablished that conection in the gameplay. Probably we wouldn't. Breathing is a normal thing to after cryo stasis I guess. But that scene has been chosen for the trailer. All scenes have been chosen for the trailer for a reason. The breathing scene is the most cristal clear.
