i disagree. it doesnt fit with the mass effect tone.
They should add a torture scene in MEA

If they were to include such a thing, I think it might be fun if the information you get from the person you tortured turned out to be false, forcing the player to chase false leads thinking that their tactic was rewarded. After all, it isn't a particularly effective means of interrogation.

No, this isn't one of those "let me be as evil as possible" threads. I just think it would be interesting to add in an interrogation scene and give us the option to use torture as a means of acquiring information, and also give us dialogue options to justify such brutal methods. I mean, there are plenty of people in real life who actually support the use of torture. I've seen tons of people defend the CIA's use of waterboarding, sleep deprivation, etc. They can add in the whole "does torture even get reliable information" debate into it and have varying squadmate reactions, etc. And its not like Bioware hasn't done torture scenes in the past. They allowed renegade Shepard to beat the crap out of Elias Kelham in ME2.
What purpose would this ultimately serve though? What does it add to the narrative or player experience? It's a fun option to have, sure, but I don't see it ultimately accomplishing anything outside of, "Well torture's fun."
Gameplay talk aside, torture isn't very effective. Look up John Oliver's piece on torture for reference. More often than not, it's wildly unproductive and only really seems to sate the torturer's hunger for harming others. I'm not a fan of propagating an incorrect image of torture or interrogation just for the sake of checking off an item on the "Power Fantasy To-Do List."

It would seem that it's more often not, provided they give you anything at all.

Didn't say it would be the truth or turn out useful in the end. ![]()

I'm going with a 'no' on the torture idea. At least it's not something I want to see graphically depicted. I have a hard enough time watching Theon's torture scenes in Game of Thrones. Gah, the finger peeling....I'm traumatized.

I liked what Coming0fShadows suggested: an interrogation Leviathan DLC style. It was not fun, it felt unsettling but necessary at the same time. And if you go to far you get the whole information pack but you kill the poor innocent woman.
Interrogating Elias was fun, but from a narrative point of view if you go further to simply thread someone, that action should have consecuences.

How far can we go with the torture? Can we cut off a finger? Pull back the kneecap with a knife? Splints under the nails? Ripping out their teeth?
Where would the limit be?
First you make an incision into the victim's abdomen and insert a sort of small grappling hook, ensuring it's properly entwined with their innards (but not immediately fatally).
The grappling hook is on a rope, which loops over a tree branch overhanging a cliff.
You tie the other end of the rope around the victim's neck and threaten to push them off the cliff unless they tell you everything they know...
... then you push them off anyway and you get to shout "wheeeeeeee!" as the weight of their falling body draws their own entrails out; you can even take bets beforehand as to whether they'll hit the ground first or run out of entrails.
Is that far enough?

This is not a "medieval" kind of game we live far into the future so there are other methods to get humans/aliens to talk we just don't need a torture chamber when we interrogate the prisoners.

Correct, she don't die, I made a quick search and that's true. However, you lost her as Crucible asset if you go too far interrogating Leviathan through her. It's a very little consequence but I like that decission had an effect
