Gore threads and now torture... I think someone needs to go play a horror game.
I'd prefer these stay out of MEA.

Swtor had torture in it and it worked. Plus it could be an option and I don't feel like we should gut the guy. Punch and Kick him, maybe shoot them in the leg. It doesn't have to be over the top brutal. I feel like, if done correctly it'll be fine.
No, this isn't one of those "let me be as evil as possible" threads. I just think it would be interesting to add in an interrogation scene and give us the option to use torture as a means of acquiring information, and also give us dialogue options to justify such brutal methods. I mean, there are plenty of people in real life who actually support the use of torture. I've seen tons of people defend the CIA's use of waterboarding, sleep deprivation, etc. They can add in the whole "does torture even get reliable information" debate into it and have varying squadmate reactions, etc. And its not like Bioware hasn't done torture scenes in the past. They allowed renegade Shepard to beat the crap out of Elias Kelham in ME2.
Hasn't this been done in ME:3? When we were questioning that guy at C-Sec?
I doubt they'll go too far if such a scene exists in the game. I mean, look at all the sh*t GTA V got for that torture scene.
Like, people it's a g a m e. But is still considered taboo on the videogame industry for what it seems.
I for one wouldn't mind as long as it makes sense. Adding brutality just for the sake of it doesn't sound that interesting.
People should understand what we do in games has NOTHING to do with our real life actions (at least in the case of rational people).I doubt they'll go too far if such a scene exists in the game. I mean, look at all the sh*t GTA V got for that torture scene.

They should tie you up and have you listen to Justin Bieber's full album.
I can't think of a worse torture. They should tie you up and have you listen to Justin Bieber's full album.
How about a scenario where the nicest, fluffiest character in the game volunteers to go into that interrogation room, the door shuts... and then they exit seconds later with all the information we need and the suspect in tears?
Even better if we never find out what they did in that room. ![]()

LOL
Mmm... torture in SWTOR..... "My lord, no!! Forgive me!" *force lightning*... gosh, I'm such a sadist Sith Sorceror.... and it is Teen rating btw.
Brutal. Those scars would never heal. They should tie you up and have you listen to Justin Bieber's full album.

Light Sided Sith in SWTOR seem to terrify people even more, because no-one knows how to handle a Sith who's actually nice. Especially when they offer to let them go exchange for some information and then hold up their end of the deal... it has to be a trick, right?
Everyone is the Bad Cop in the Sith Empire, so the Good Cop comes across as far scarier because it's that unexpected.
If they were to include such a thing, I think it might be fun if the information you get from the person you tortured turned out to be false, forcing the player to chase false leads thinking that their tactic was rewarded. After all, it isn't a particularly effective means of interrogation.
Ryder: "That SOB Dark Knighted me!"
I think realism needs to play a factor. Just a little. Obviously we are not talking gears bloody. And torture. I was happy beating the **** out of Elias. The guy was a douche. I can torture douches. Obviously We'll be throwing traitors off platforms.Gore threads and now torture... I think someone needs to go play a horror game.

That's a myth.
Some people are not willing to deal with the moral question of torture in specific situations, so they adopt a narrative that says that torture is always unreliable.
The truth is much more complicated. Yes, torture can get you false information if you have no way to verify, if you don't cross examine, and if you don't
know how to to interrogate. Torture as an interrogation technique is not a hammer, it is much more like a scalpel.
It is also effective more in some cases than in others. But the fact is that everyone has their breaking point.
What is certain is that the blanket statement that claims that torture is an ineffective tool in interrogation (as opposed to asking if it is moral or not in specific situations) is false.

Ah! We played the same way I see.
Anyway I want to play as a psychotically bent zealot ruthless and desiring to take over the entire world but the problem is I don't think torturing always helps achieve that cause.
In theory you are getting information, but kindness is a greater coercive force if you think about it.

Assuming diplomacy is an option. But that's not always true.
But yes, charging in guns blazing without trying diplomacy in a new galaxy against unknown aliens is rather dumb.

Hm... in those instances I'd rather just play a full light side Jedi Knight.
That's a myth.

I think it's something like, some people are unable to get what they want from X so they torture, whereas others can get what they want more easily because they possess some other skill.
The moral question isn't about the validity of torture but whether you should allow people who need that extra edge to get what they need to do so.

It's a lot about the tone of the game too. SWTOR dark side often feels like being a saturday morning cartoon villain. Contrast that to the torture scene in GTAV with someone like Trevor. That's why it has a T rather than an M.
nothin better than the rush that comes from sticking sharp, pointy metal objects into the fingertips of a very bad person. If the goal is interrogation, MEU could easily fabricate easier and more effective means.
The protheans were able to read energy signatures.
Asari can link neural networks.
They could have some piece of technology that scans and interprets the brain / brain waves / energy signatures.
Then there's the good old-fashioned truth serum.
