I usually side with the mages in my playthroughs, but this time I went with the Templars because I'm a Mage sympathizer. I was wondering about the fate of the mages in the future of Thedas. Are the circles still in place? If you side with the mages, the Templar order is just completely taken over by Corypheus and I assume that it is disbanded for good (hard to come back from that, really) but if you side with the Templars, what happens to mages in the future? Mages will still be born, it's biology. Where do they go? Are they free or do they still live in circles? If you disband the Templars after siding with them, they stay with the Inquisition, which mean no more Templars oppressing mages in the circles...? Then who defends mages against abominations? I'm honestly so confused on what happens to the mages if you side with the Templars.

The veteran mages of the Inquisition who did not return to the fold (the ones already fighting in your army and not part of Fiona's refuge) formed a new College of Enchanters as a rival organization to the circle. The College of Enchanters is a secular institution seeking opportunities for mages across the South. They don't go back to the Circle towers, since they help fight Corypheus they earned their freedom and wander around like the Dalish and offer their magical services in order to curry favor with politicians and earn good standing and perhaps a home. They might even recruit apostates and legitimize them in the eyes of the Chantry. I'd say they become like the Witchers. and since they are so few of them since you recruit the templars, i guess people decide to indulge them.
What happens to mages in the future? If you recruit the templars, depending on who's divine, the divine might let them join whoever they choose supposedly after the Harrowing unless its Vivienne. Otherwise, I assume they join the Circle again or kept in the Circle if Vivienne starts throwing her weight around.
