Family twists are predictable but who's to say that isn't big brother getting dropped off of a ledge by a Krogan. Wouldn't surprise me if they put that in and spoiled the whole thing.
They have form.

They should do the reverse evil family member where the plot twist is that they're evil but the real plot twist is that you only thought they were evil but they're really good.

We should be twins for added cliche power.

Why not? An evil antagonist who we're related to will actually make us more emotionally invested in the story if it's done right. Especially if that character is an older/younger sibling. Take Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker for instance. One of the best parts about the hero and the villain was that they were related to each other. It's a protagonist-antagonist relationship that people remember to this day.

Absolutely agree, OP. We should be the evil twin.
Bonus points for opposite gender twin.

We should be at odds with at least one family member depending on whether we pick Renegade or Paladin, or else what's point of having a family?

Keeping them around for spare parts in case you need them.

Another vote for letting us be the evil twin, because Maker knows if I had a twin, I'd discover I was the evil one. ![]()

Hey, if KOTOR could make Revan a surprise...
Though that'd be a rather sweet story, if you think about it- a sibling redemption story, in which you're the sibling being redeemed.

So much this (and not only this: Remove most of that family crap (if I want (family-)drama etc. I will watch crap like "How I met your mother" and other soap operas or sitcoms (whatever you are calling them, I will probably not like them - not even the dorky "Big Bang Theory"))...a family story didn't work in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 (ok: Bethesda didn't really try either IMHO, but even if they did: It would IMHO still have detracted from the story because it causes cognitive dissonance - at least for me, as I don't care for the characters (neither the father - who IMHO is an ******* for just leaving and I'd have loved to kill him (he isn't really my dad after all!), nor the son) and even more so because I am not married (don't ever want to get married either!) and because I don't have any children (again: don't want any either!), so you are basically forcing a life/role on me that I don't even want in RL and that causes my immersion to break!...giving an RPG character so much unchangeable background is WRONG IMHO! Go the Shepard (Spacer! Don't know much about the other origins, as I only use that one because I like it!) route if you have to (so family sends you e-mail, but isn't really there), hell if you must make us meet them (but give us the option to be the estranged son/daughter instead of the family's darling!))
ps: Why would the family even be along on the trip...sorry, but if it's about survival only the best should be sent IMHO (and not everybody in a single family is "the best" in most cases (I mean you've got families where say the dad is an elite soldier (like Shepard and our new protagonist) but maybe the wife is a stay at home mom and the kids are unemployed idiots and/or still in school! - would you want them on this trip? I sure as hell wouldn't!))

We've already had the Reapers.

And the only evil thing they did was burn you with lit cigarettes.

Why does the male always have to be the evil one? Smh...we could at least choose the storyline for hour character if they are going that way. But they'd have to get rid of the paragon etc choices to make sense I guess.

It could work if we were given the option at the start to be the "evil" twin. In CC generator select M/F and select whether your ideal is peaceful exploration and colonization of more sparsely settled regions (and defense when necessary), or whether your inclined for a more aggressive approach to colonization. Not that I think we actually get that, but it could create additional playthroughs.

"Yeah?"
"Look, I always said they shouldn't have used the cheapest brand of stasis pods..."
"Oh."
That's about enough family involvement for me.

Yeah but maybe they do a little dance, or have a female krogan do one if Joe N7 is the evil one.

Can someone explain me why alot of the ppl on this post want to be evil on the game?????
Normaly been evil mean the easy way, you deal with quest just killing or shooting. Not much to do. (well most game take the easy approach when it mean to be evil)
And lets be real, how many of you thinks you actually going to be the evil. LOL even Kotor twist about you been the Sith Lord Raven mean nothing since you still end been good if you been playing like that.

Yes!
And the only evil thing they did was burn you with lit cigarettes.

Does this look like a cigarette burn, you lil' ****? My brother shoved my face into a hearth, when I was just a child. Over a toy... A TOY!!!
As for Evil Twin. Why not? There's so many stories out there, many are bound to have the same. Because, originality, is all but completely dead. Name an alternative, I can guarantee it's already been told.
