The writers were trying to get out of a particularly tight corner... 

And they're getting out of it by knocking a hole in the wall, it seems 

 

A corner they were going to have to get out of regardless of the ending. Perfect writing or terrible writing, they were going to have to deal with three games of divergence in the MW.

While I have been extremely critical of the endings in general, I have never stated otherwise.  If they wanted to continue the franchise, they should not have had such diverse endings.

The game comes in 9 months (or so). Firstonce we should wait for this "birth" bevor we all break out in such a anhedonig tantrum?

Something that always confuses me in these complaints is that what exactly was the alternative to going to a new galaxy and this concept that ME3 painted itself in a corner.

 

From what we know and what they themselves have admitted, originally it was supposed to be just the ME trilogy, so they were in the wrong for trying to give it a conclusive ending? And even beyond that and the endings themselves, and I will be honest I liked the endings, especially the Extended endings, in ME3 the player choices affect the future of the Quarians, the Geth and the Krogan. The Rachni might have survived or not. The leadership of the Batarian fleets and did they participate in the Earth campaign, what was the Salarian position, all of it was touched on in that game.

 

So there were multitude of different end states based on those choices which would have basically prevented in creating a continuous state unless BW had chosen a set state. So instead Bioware deciding to honor those choices, which were all done within that self-sufficient story, is Bioware painting themselves in to a corner?

ps: OP isn't entirely wrong - ME3 was/is a mess (even with Extended Cut DLC, as that doesn't make the game less linear, give us button mapping (I've got a keyboard, so one button shouldn't basically do everything like on a damned controller!), give some choices their value back, don't slap us in the face for others (Morinth! Refuse "ending"! Rachnii (if you killed the queen - which I never did...can't abide genocide!)), bring our crew back, don't have badass Shep go to prison (why? I mean even the most paragon Shepard does not have the TIME to sit in prison/house-arrest somewhere while the Reapers approach!) etc. etc. they'd have to scrap the whole game to "repair" that mess, so it's a good idea to just leave (until way later, so that those endings can be hand-waved away!))

Nothing confirmed from developers on our squadmates, only a leak that there's a female human and a Krogran. So reading stuff "on here...." is usually about 2% legitimate. And that 2% is tweets straight from the developers, the rest is wants, wishes, suggestions, theories, vents, rages, and trolls.

Oh how I've missed the doomsayers and the "ruined forever" topics they love to concoct.

Know next to nothing about the game? It's going to be awful. Noticed it retains some of elements from the last trilogy? It's just recycling old ideas and won't be bringing anything new. That asari looks unique? All asari will look just like her. Is that the old races? Looks like we'll not be adding any new ones to the crew.

The BSN is descending into self parody and we have almost nothing to go on yet.

I feel they are playing it too safe. I would have liked the Humans to set up a large colony in Andromeda and have next to nothing in common with the last games.

No citadel like location
No Normandy like design for the ship
Only have 1-2 milky way races make an appearance and forget about the rest
Have the majority of squadmates be Andromedan
Have the character be a Han Solo smuggler type that only works for himself

Except we are not getting that, we are getting basically the same game as the last trilogy. Its like when my work used to offer chicken sandwiches for lunch, then take their leftovers and offer chicken salads as a "new" item the next day. Thats what this game feels like.

Why is a Citadel-like location a bad thing? You don't want a space hub? I sure as hell wouldn't want that gone from any ME game.
