If all that is left is polishing, why actual no game play?

It has been established that the game is more or less done and all that is left is polishing. IF that is the case, could it hurt to actually display game play and show the class system and combat? What are biotics like? How is the Vanguard, Engineer? Will there even be those old classes? Revealing this would not be story spoiler and would give us something to think about during the long wait. Perhaps they will do so in a few months but one does wonder if this bodes well or not....

Game mechanics rarely spoil the story and we know not next to nothing, but in the truest sense of the word, nothing of the game mechanics thus far. It has been claimed that the game is basically done and that all that remains is polish, why then show zero game play to give us something to think about. Are the classes the same? are they different? How will it work? Nothing, nada. Then you see disturbing posts such as this one:

And you have to wonder what is going on? I am sure those far wiser than I can offer commentary but I for one think this bodes rather ill to merely have a trailer and no game play at all.

A few possibilities:

1 - Mass Effect: Andromeda is really Mass Effect: Destiny, forcing single player plebs to engage in multiplayer, which will **** them off so EAbioware is afraid to show gameplay.

2 - Since it's running on Frostbite, it could be as laggy, (or laggier) than Dragon Age: Inquisition multiplayer, which will **** EVERYONE off so EAbioware is afraid to show gameplay.

3 - Every 5 feet forward is blocked by another paywall or microtransaction, and nobody at EAbioware wanted to be the one demonstrating gameplay footage because they have a wife and kids to feed.

I'm guessing it's a combination of all three.

Because it's a Destiny clone and they don't want all the SP people to run away from the game, at least not before they buy it.

I sure as hell hope they didn't pull inspiration off destiny. That game is whack and it's for kids.

Because Bioware found their newest infatuation in Fallout 4 marketing reveal and now they wanna duplicate that with MEA, which makes no sense whatsoever since MEA was announced years prior and there won't be any big gameplay reveal surprise that worked for Fallout 4, especially as they're already showed pieces of gameplay

None of the aforementioned possibilities bodes well for us. At the very least I am glad that a healthy skepticism remains in some. It could be they are hold back on what will be the greatest game play experience ever...but that seems unlikely.

This is exactly why some people are frustrated. They've been saying for months now that the game is playable, yet they haven't put their money where their proverbial mouth is.

Personally I can't say I care one way or another. They haven't shown enough for me to know if I'm even interested in the game. I'm just here to funpost.

This. There's no reason to show us next to nothing at E3 but tell us all kinds of crap in interviews afterward if the game is so far along in development they're just polishing things.

If we're going with March 2017 release date (latest possible timeframe that still makes it into EA's fiscal year) then the game is 6 months away from going gold. And yet so little shown....

They're going for a Fallout4 marketing approach, waiting until a couple months before release to actually show us the game. Which kinda sucks cause I find it hard to care about MEA right now.

EA has moved toward a shorter amount of time between full/gameplay reveal and release date: Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 got their first gameplay reveals at EA Play even though the games are supposed to release in 4 and 5 months respectively. DAI only got its first official gameplay trailer towards the end of April 2014 for a supposed release date of early October 2014 (that later got pushed to November). MEA having a full reveal in November would be in line with this model.

Also DAI was criticized for cutting out gameplay features between the 2013 Pax Prime demo and the final game, so they likely want to avoid that again.

It is somewhat concerning, even while I'm making an effort to extend them the benefit of the doubt. Logic is telling me that they aren't nearly as far along as they should be.

Aaryn Flynn commented that it's "sobering" to hear that fans are worried. If it's such a bummer, and the game is in fact in great shape, then why not show some damn gameplay in the year's biggest forum? Nearly every other game, big and small, was doing so. I have seen gameplay for stuff I didn't even know was in development, but still no MEA.

Yeah, that 'we only need to polish a bit' thing made me side-eye a bit. Knowing nothing of game development more than half a year of polish seems a bit excessive. I'm not particularly concerned but it just seemed like an odd thing to say vs yeah we decided we need some more time. DAI devs just owned up to that and we got some nifty bits outta it so it's all good.

I suspect the DAI Crestwood Fiasco has made BioWare very wary of sharing non-finalized preview content. Maybe after the "ME3 endings therapy" that Aaryn mentioned, they simply don't want to deal with anymore fan BS, provoked or not.

This is the games industry equivalent of a fourth grader telling his teacher he's done his homework but forgot it at home.

Primitive, this game has been in development since 2012 and it was soft-announced in 2014.

No they are not. That's not even the Fallout 4 approach. Bethesda wasn't talking about Fallout 4 and showing trailers for years before telling us a bunch of crap without showing us anything. The Fallout 4 approach was radio silence throughout development and then a giant info/video dump shortly before release. BioWare told us about Andromeda 3 years ago, have put out 3 trailers, and told us about 100x more than they've shown us.
