If all that is left is polishing, why actual no game play?

I was under the impression that the whole purpose of the EA Play event this year was to prioritize and showcase the visual qualities and gameplay of the 5-6 sports games that will be released before the end of this year. As such, and given the 9 months still to come for ME:A's release, it seems to me to be way too early for any ME:A gameplay to have to be revealed at this point. I don't have a problem with not seeing any actual game play yet.

Considering all that was revealed in the trailer and the details revealed by Mac Walters in each of the post-presentation interviews, I am quite pleased with what I am seeing so far. I'm in the camp with those who feel that a fully 'polished' product is far better than a game that isn't. Perhaps a year from now we'll all be saying: "Wow, I had no idea how ambitious ME:A proved to be."

Then they wouldn't just be polishing things. If combat still needs such big tweaks that they can't show any of it then they're doing a hell of a lot more than polishing.

Didn't say they couldn't show it now. What I said was that it's worse now than it's going to be. Surely that's not a controversial suggestion; they're doing something useful for the next eight months, right?

Your completely wrong Bethesda announced the Fallout 4 at a least week or so before E3 and released the game in November that same year after they showed it off at E3. Bioware has done no such thing with some developer commentary in 2014, an announcement trailer in 2015 and they kept on saying they'll show more yet they end up showing nothing of interest. This E3 marks the third time they didn't bother to show off any gameplay all we got was yet another psuedo-BTS trailer.

They had three E3's to show off gameplay they have no excuse not to show any gameplay this time round.

Well, I'm not completely wrong, no. They are broadly similar situations, and the same logic applies.

Every single one of your posts that I've seen here exhibits a profoundly weird need for this game to suck. That's very strange, but you do you. For my part, I hope your eventual disappointment is everything you dream it will be, because probably the rest of us will end up with a pretty good game in that case.

So Bethesda dropped lots of info five months before release, yep. Wake me in December when we can tell if Bio's behind schedule.

BioWare already stated they were following BGS' approach with Fallout 4. Major reveal of gameplay months before release, and then a steady flow of information to build up hype and anticipation. Don't expect gameplay until N7 Day at the latest as BioWare doesn't want to start the hype train too early. This has nothing to do with the game not being ready. It's a matter of conducting a successful marketing campaign to maximize profits.

What steady flow of information? Virtually everything we learned in the last week we've known for the last year.

They are being smart. if they show gameplay, people will whine and s*** everywhere. If they don't, they'll still whine (as evident in this thread) yet not as much. Personally, I can wait for the gameplay but I'll really like to see some details about the story or events leading up to the game.

They were leaks, none of it was confirmed. Now we know it's true and we got some extra, juicy details.

I hope they take the time to polish and optimize this for PC. I am buying a new rig for this game. Going to go balls out on it.

Context clues. There will be a "steady flow of information" after the gameplay reveal. As we still have yet to actually see a substantial amount of gameplay or a demo, we will not receive the "steady flow of information" until then. Again, Fallout 4 is the standard for which Mass Effect Andromeda will follow. That means you may as well come back here by November 7, at the latest, as we aren't going to get any actual news until then.

Probably just a change in marketing strategy, especially since the game is a new jumping on point in the series and they kind of want to keep it under wraps until they can do the big reveal on N7 day without overloading people with possible spoilers/etc.

I don't get why they would want to wait until N7 Day. Any of the gaming conventions, and especially E3, are exponentially better because of how public and widespread they are.

ME3 was shown off at E3 nine months before release. I am sure when the game is finally released i will have a great time playing, but i really doubt it's coming out Q1 2017, I only hope it's out before next years E3.

It seems like they are, according to some of the devs on Twitter. It went from "We'll show more in the fall" at the presentation to "We'll show more in the coming weeks" the days after that.

It'll probably be small tidbits to keep people interested until N7 day, and yeah it is kinda odd they didn't push anything out at E3 but hey we did get a nice trailer.

Is it working, though? Because after all the "we can't wait to show you more" followed by all the "we'll show you more in 6 months time" a bunch of times in a roll, I'm getting this close to stop giving a damn. I wonder if that's not the case of a considerable number of people.

It's not that I think the production is in trouble, it's not that I think the game will suck; I just really don't appreciate being led by the nose like this.

Those of you who theorized that it will have Destiny like elements *might* be right. EA has no competition for Destiny or The Division. Those games make money that EA will go after.

EA set their sights on COD, they will target Destiny/ Division next. So imagine if they showed that type of game play in a Mass Effect game. At E3. The down votes would rival COD Infinite Warfare.

So, over 4yrs of development and no gameplay? Something aint right or they're hiding something.

(By the way, I love Destiny and the Division)

I'd murder something fluffy.

Someone needs to tell them that it's OK to release a goddamn single player game once in a while. If I wanted to play Destiny or the Division, I would.

Inquisition had a closed-door demo shown off for the Crestwood and Western Approach areas that looked very polished and showed around 25 minutes of gameplay. The problem was, the mechanics (such as those tied to the creation of various keeps), encounters (such as the Red Templars laying siege to an Inquisition fort) and decisions (such as sacrificing the town to save the Inquisition forces at the keep) were all cut. This demo was leaked at Pax Prime in September 2013, and Inquisition went Gold in October 2014.

I'm guessing BioWare want to avoid a situation like this by having all features and quest content completely locked down before showing things off, especially with ME:A being a similar distance from release as Inquisition was at that stage. I know fans still bring up things from this demo, such as the various keep mechanics, so maybe it's best we not see everything until there is little chance of them being removed.

Honestly if they were going to go that route, I think the Secret IP from BioWare has a better chance of filling that role.  Those games feel a lot more simpler in their design because it is more about the online play.  The other thing is technically BioWare already has a persistent sci-fi game with The Old Republic and making Mass Effect more like those games could be viewed as cannibalizing one sci-fi game for another.

Seriously, did you see that God of War demo? 10 minutes long and what looked like the entire intro of the game. And it's still "in development." Bioware needs to step it up, man.

It's possible they may have lined up a deal with IGN or game informer to do a full month of coverage. I believe they arranged that deal with Game Informer for Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect 3? It could be that they can't show any raw gameplay yet in order to honor a deal like that.
