If all that is left is polishing, why actual no game play?

Is it working, though? Because after all the "we can't wait to show you more" followed by all the "we'll show you more in 6 months time" a bunch of times in a roll, I'm getting this close to stop giving a damn. I wonder if that's not the case of a considerable number of people.

It's not that I think the production is in trouble, it's not that I think the game will suck; I just really don't appreciate being led by the nose like this.

Well, to be quite frank, BioWare screwed up. We've known that there has been a working build of the game since late 2013. Then, BioWare had to do a teaser of MEA as well as the new IP at E3 2014. After that, there was Comic-Con, which showed off the Mako and the new protagonist, N7 Day 2014, then E3 2015 with another teaser trailer, and N7 Day 2015 with the Commander Shepard epilogue.

It wasn't until BioWare saw how BGS successfully launched Fallout 4 to HUGE success that they realized a shorter wait period to release before an info dump was likely a better strategy. Unfortunately, they had already begun teasing the game for years, so MEA's development was a secret to no one. At this point, they are just giving us breadcrumbs until the massive info dump and likely demo during N7 Day. After that, MEA is scheduled to release in a matter of months.

I hope they take the time to polish and optimize this for PC. I am buying a new rig for this game. Going to go balls out on it.

Since when does any company optimise anything for PC? I get why consoles are popular but they naturally suck resources away from the PC, just a fact of reality. The real game will NOT look at good as the pre-rendered stuff we saw in the trailer.

Well, I'm not completely wrong, no. They are broadly similar situations, and the same logic applies.

But Bethesda didn't make people wait three E3's before showing off gameplay.

Every single one of your posts that I've seen here exhibits a profoundly weird need for this game to suck. That's very strange, but you do you. For my part, I hope your eventual disappointment is everything you dream it will be, because probably the rest of us will end up with a pretty good game in that case.

Wrong again, people are sick of being told "we'll show you more at a later date" only to get that exact same line when that day finally comes. People want proper gameplay demo's not pesudo-BTS trailer's and 2-3 concept art images.

So Bethesda dropped lots of info five months before release, yep. Wake me in December when we can tell if Bio's behind schedule.

See first comment and Bioware have telling people about their game long before they actually announced it.

I'm kinda uncomfortable using Fallout 4 as any kind of positive example, considering how it turned out.

I'm kinda uncomfortable using Fallout 4 as any kind of positive example, considering how it turned out.

How it turned out is irrelevant. The game quickly sold 12 million units in the first month and became one of the best selling games of all time. It doesn't matter if it was a disappointment and just a slightly polished Fallout 3. BioWare wants to emulate that kind of marketing success with Mass Effect Andromeda.

I've got to admit, you've got a point there; according to my sources, Bioware haven't sold a single copy of MEA yet.

Bioware is for some reason hesitating in showing gameplay, the why is up for debate, but I doubt it's "trying to emulate Fallout 4". This is just a bad rationalization from fans, just like saying they are not releasing information so not to "steal" the hype from other games.

More time=more pre-orders, and waiting until November means people have less money to drop on things like games(that come out in February or March) for themselves because of Christmas. Stop being willfully obtuse.

It's funny you say that, I just checked and you can't pre-order the game at a store like Gamestop yet, or Best Buy (if my local stores are to be believed)

So even then, pre-orders aren't even an option right now until EA says so, I guess.

Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of BioWare Canada, stated they wanted to use Fallout 4's marketing strategy for Mass Effect Andromeda. This is not "bad rationalization from fans."

What do you mean?  ME:A has been all over the gaming media this week.  Raising the profile of whatever you're trying to market is the point of marketing.

If someone at Bioware said it, it can't possibly be false.

I believe you said something about it being "bad rationalization" on the part of fans, and so Revan was pointing out it wasn't.

They made people wait only two E3s? I guess that's true.

Yep. So what?

It might surprise some how long games are in an unpresentable state. The game may function well enough, but there might be a number of small, but important assets that haven't made their way though the pipeline yet, so there might not be a single significant segment of gameplay that has enough screws tightened to consider it show worthy. Without the pressure of an E3 presentation looming over BioWare's heads, I'd imagine that they'd be more focused on finishing the whole rather than any single part.

I think we should be happy that we haven't seen any vertical slice gameplay at all. Not only do they tend to oversell some mechanics that may not make it into the final build*cough*DA:I*cough*, they often leave the game with this glaringly obvious "E3 level" that has all the game's bells whistles shoved together in close proximity. It's annoying that they've teased the game twice (three times if you include N7 Day) over two years, and we haven't gotten anything to bite our teeth into, but I'd rather be disappointed with EA's marketing strategy than the game itself.

But it is "bad marketing strategy from BioWare"

Given the popularity of such insignificant news posts as "Ryder Confirmed as Protagonist's Name" on r/games (during E3 no less), I'd say that their strategy is quite effective actually.

I see. So I suppose I should change to "bad excuse from Bioware"?

It's possible I'm being unfair, but what is the "Fallout model" anyway? Because if it is announcing the game a few months before release and showing a lot of info in a short span of time,  Bioware is not doing that at all. The game has been announced for a year now and the trailer from E3 goes against that model. If it is just waiting to get closer to release to show a lot of info, then it's just a very common marketing strategy. Recently Rise of the TR was like that.

Take a look at what happened when they revealed what they did.

Do we really want people to pick apart the combat details as well?

What better advertisement venue is there than E3 until next spring? The Superbowl? E3 is to my knowledge the largest 'gaming con' event. I mean wouldn't you want to sell your product in a confident manner where the most eyes are watching. The BTS trailers are better suited for smaller events like San Diego comic con or Gamescon in Germany.

I dunno it seems kind of weird to me marketing wise. Even if they do a big info dump on N7 day or whatever, it will still probably garner less publicity than a 5-7 minute gameplay demo/trailer at E3.

People like to know what they're buying.  So far EAbioware has shown nothing to convince us that ME:A is worth buying, and in fact, given the community some serious doubt as to whether or not it WILL be.  I guess if you subscribe to "there's no such thing as bad publicity" then bad publicity is better than NO publicity, but why not opt for GOOD publicity?  The only reason not to go for good publicity is if you have nothing good to publicize.

I don't think weird can be avoided. It's also weird to do a big marketing push for something that won't be available for over nine months.
