If all that is left is polishing, why actual no game play?

People like to know what they're buying.  So far EAbioware has shown nothing to convince us that ME:A is worth buying, and in fact, given the community some serious doubt as to whether or not it WILL be.  I guess if you subscribe to "there's no such thing as bad publicity" then bad publicity is better than NO publicity, but why not opt for GOOD publicity?  The only reason not to go for good publicity is if you have nothing good to publicize.

It hasn't been bad publicity on the whole from what I've seen.

Sure certain people on the BSN are up in arms about it, but half of us would get up in arms over a squirrel crossing the road while the other half would want to romance it.

But is the squirrel straight, gay, or bi? That's an important question.

I don't think weird can be avoided. It's also weird to do a big marketing push for something that won't be available for over nine months.

? How is a 5-7 minute gameplay a big push. Witcher 3 had a 15 minute demo @ E3 2014.. it released 11 months later in May 2015.. Uncharted 4 was released 11 months after E3 2015 and had a 15 minute gameplay demo.. Nintendo/Zelda spent a whole day on a game not coming out to Spring 2017.. I mean I can go on if you want more examples..

Squirrel's omni-sexual.

I'm pretty sure the squirrel identifies as an attack helicopter.

After reading this thread I have a strong suspicion that even if BioWare showed more content there would be threads nearly identical, but instead of gameplay replace it with another variable in the game.

We'd just complain about the gameplay in that case.

I've got to admit, you've got a point there; according to my sources, Bioware haven't sold a single copy of MEA yet.

Your clearly missing the point, the reason why fallout 4's marketing worked is because Bethesda announced and released fallout 4 in the same year this is not the case for ME:A

They made people wait only two E3s? I guess that's true.

I don't recall Bethesda announcing a game only for them to finally show off gameplay 2+ years after said announcement.

Yep. So what?

See above.

So ME:A should have been announced later? Who cares when the announcement was, and why do they care?

Edit: I mean that literally, rather than as snark. Who are the gamers who won't buy if the gameplay vids come out in November, but would buy if they came out now?

That's ok, I'm an objectumsexual (look it up, it's a real word). I love how sexy and sturdy that squirrel's helicopter blade is.

A lot of positive artistic sexual imagery.

No I'm saying Bioware's marketing for ME:A is horrid.

The only marketing I pay attention to is when they offer a pizza deal or a rebate or something.

In every other instance, it's in one ear and out the other.

Why should they show all their cards this far out?

Fallout 4 didn't show ANYTHING until a couple months from release, sold so many copies it would make your eyes pop.  Sometimes less is more, and anyway....EA wouldn't want Andromeda stealing Battlefield 1 or Titanfall 2's thunder in any way, that's for sure.  I think a Gamescom gameplay trailer and then a massive N7 day blowout is on the cards, works about right for timing wise with a ~March 2017 release.

One only has to look at other EA projects to see why. Battlefield 1 was just revealed on the gameplay front and it's only a few months out. That game is much bigger than Mass Effect for EA. They reveal closer to the game's release now to avoid backlash so people can't complain when content is cut or it receives a graphical downgrade. Consumers don't understand how game development work and can't understand it changes constantly for various reasons. It would just lead to negativity if something like Dragon Age happened which did to Bioware. That's why they said they would approach it similar to Bethesda does. Dragon Age cut features in the demo they showed a year or so before release.

You don't have to believe them but if EA thought this game was coming in late 2017 they wouldn't delay it just a few months when it had a late 2016 release as it was. They delayed it to keep it by itself in the first quarter for themselves. They need a big title for their shareholders in that fiscal period and it gives ME:A extra months polish. Win win for them. Expect details later this year probably at PAX which seems to be Bioware's favorite event every year. It can be delayed of course but I highly doubt EA is expecting that right now. I think TitanFall will be delayed too and they definitely didn't want to pit ME:A beside those 2 games which could potentially steal sales even if they're not in the same genre. Big game for every quarter is ideal for them.

For the second year in a row EA basically showed basically nothing on Star Wars. Their entire conference was sparse. They've changed how they show games.

But what's the point of doing that?

I gave a reasoning in the first paragraph of what you originally quoted. I have no idea what is driving BioWare's marketing. Common sense tells me they are trying to out smart conventional marketing or they aren't confident in their product. There could be other reasons or data which only they know of too. Not showing anything doesn't mean the game will be bad either. They got nine months to 'polish' it, but basically skipping the E3 before the release of an AAA game isn't the norm. Fallout 4 had a small reveal to release window, but Fallout 4 didn't forgo E3 either. I bet if E3 was in January of 2015 Fallout 4 would have been revealed there even if the release was still Fall 2015.

Because Bioware found their newest infatuation in Fallout 4 marketing reveal and now they wanna duplicate that with MEA, which makes no sense whatsoever since MEA was announced years prior and there won't be any big gameplay reveal surprise that worked for Fallout 4, especially as they're already showed pieces of gameplay

To be honest it would work against them too as Fallout 4 wasn't nearly as good as it seemed due to that marketing strategy. I think it just ended up pissing me off lol.

The most recent info dump has been widely reported on. And either way, they've got people talking, haven't they? Whatever they're doing is working. Honestly, this is only apparent to you. But you're rooting for the game to fail for some reason. I guess to say you told us so or something.

What will probably happen is MEA will be Bioware's most successful game yet. It's already more popular than DA by virtue of being Mass Effect.

Obviously the very loud minority of fans who ****** about the Crestwood demo scared them off.

the easier fix would be not to show alpha footage and not lie to your fans about the kind of game they will get at launch. It is hard to feel bad for the bioware teams when they make rookie mistakes and then get upset at fans. Just sayin' that fans aren't the only issue here. Developers have some blame they need to accept in this too.
