She looks white to me. I would hazard a guess that someone somewhere on tumblr has already complained that she's not unambiguously a POC.

Will the romances be gross? I doubt it. Cheesy? Yes.

The only romance in recent Bioware games that I could see being possibly gross would be Tali's, but I don't really see them doing another quarian romance in Andromeda.

I honestly lost interest in Mirror's Edge the moment I saw her having a fight with her father in one of the trailers -- I don't want to engage in teenage movie-like experiences.

Heh, Mirror's Edge.

I lost interest the moment I saw the sanitized violence, the unassisted jumps from ludicrous heights, and the heroine displaying the admirable pacifist

principles of fighting with her fists against opponents wielding SMG's, and kicking (still, like a pacifist) someone out of a window of a sky scraper.

You do realize that Liara herself was considered a child among asari. In our human society she mabye is "legal" with her age in here but by asari, she is pretty much that gross thing to bang  ;) And lets not even start with Merill who looks and acts as child in here and screams jailbait and then we have pedobear looking Hawke next to her.

I know I'm starting to overuse this gif...but then again topic of these so called threads are already overused zillion times as well so....can't help it  :P

Someone's been jizzing a lot around forums lately, but then again these threads after E3 especially are huge jiiiiiiizz to start with.

The whole disappointment from that "younger cast" thread made me ponder if I would even like to play the story. I honestly lost interest in Mirror's Edge the moment I saw her having a fight with her father in one of the trailers -- I don't want to engage in teenage movie-like experiences. Then there was the whole Starchild of ME3 and honestly I do not look forward to Bioware's attempt to do more young characters.

But putting aside my personal disappointment, and re-reading the opening comment of the "younger cast" thread, I also realized just how uncomfortable this could actually be for a lot of people, not just older Bioware fans.

Honestly, just looking at Ryder, it's hard for me to tell if she is actually a teenager or not. It would not surprise me if Bioware is trying to appeal to younger players by taking inspiration from Hunger Games and Ender's Game.

The problem with that is Mass Effect has always had adult and intimate situations. If a teenager is engaging in that, I am not going anywhere near the story.

Even if Bioware pulls an anime-like move and says these young-looking characters are actually 25, she will still be perceived as rather young (I'm clearly not the only one here). I can totally see social media getting riled up over that as more older players feel the "squick".

I know there's still details for Bioware to reveal but I think it's important to consider those implications and also the comfort level of players who are buying this Mature-rated game. The game may be just under a year away from release, but I am hoping there is still some room to work on options or address what might become a concern.

Well, I'd have NO PROBLEM with younger characters (children, teenagers etc.), hell some of them could even give you (small!) quests (like looking for a missing toy that got left somewhere etc. - and here family drama might actually work! - or looking for the child's missing parents/siblings etc. or having a look into family history for a teen who is not told anything (might be some skelletons in the closet there!))

Just don't let the writers who wrote Star-Brat/Bratalyst (or whatever else you can call the star-child) anywhere near those characters (I'd prefer it if those guys didn't participate at all because for me: They ruined ME1-3...can't enjoy those games anymore because of the last game and it's not only the endings that are a problem for me!)

What "squick" - they never outright state the age of Shepard as far as I know and the same will probably apply to the new character, so you can head-canon your Ryder (still hate the name BTW...might still name my first character "Not Ryder" just to show my displeasure - childish you say? Well, I don't really care!) to be older (still, I would be more uncomfortable playing a 40 year old (I am not that old yet, but I've been 16, I've been 18 and I've been 25 so I've got no problem with characters of those ages!) to be older (there's after all people who look very young but aren't (I still have to show my ID sometimes when buying alcohol and I am way past 18 (I live in Germany and you can get alcohol at that age here!)...go figure!)

ps: I enjoy books for teenagers (call it a guilty pleasure - not that I feel guilty at all or think I need to defend myself!) - like Harry Potter (well, the universe more than the characters - I have found out I don't really like most of them (exception: Sirius Black!))

In my head, my characters are usually in their middle 20's to middle 30's  no matter how young they may look, unless the game itself states otherwise or they look 10.   To me, she looks early - mid 20's,

Good genes will do that.   Jim Parson's; Alison Hannigan;  my personal favorite   Myrtle is meant to be the age of a Hogwarts student, Henderson was 34 years old when she portrayed the lamenting ghost of the girls bathroom.

I don't know about you but I tend to have younger characters in mind anyways when I design my role playing head canons and think about what kind of players I want to play in any given age.  With the exception of whenever BioWare specifically mentions characters.  To not go on about it too much depth I have many reasons for doing so.  The only character I have specifically aged out?  Kara Trevelyan 26 at the start of Dragon Age.  With her brother, Benjamin, probably being the oldest character I have created at his early thirties.  The rest?  Early to mid twenties probably at the time of the events taking place.

So no...this will not be a problem at all.

My experience places her at around 20. She will be unproven, and fresh, definitely not Special Forces (a November, as I like to call 'em). But who knows, maybe she will become a November-7, and the scene with the N7 at the Galaxy Map is actually her... at the end of the game.

Andromeda will be a story about Ryder becoming a hero, after all...

*sigh* Not this BS again.

Liara is considered "barely more than a child" Academically. Specifically in regards to her admittedly somewhat far-fetched extinction cycle theory.

As for her age, 100 years old is not the Asari equivalent of a child. Morinth ran away at age 40-50 IIRC, which is indeed considered a relatively

young age for independence for an Asari. Asari life cycles are completely different than human ones.

And finally, she never really acts like a child, she acts like an young obsessed nerdy archeologist.

"Barely more than a child" = 18-ish. Dunno about you, but 18 is the age of consent around here.

(And I could go funny with the Czech law, which actually states ... stuff... is legal from 15 years of age. No porn or anything until 18. The joke is "so that you can take a look at what you've been doing wrong for three years." It is also taboo to display anything below 18, or pretty much anything below 18.)

I don't know why people keep acting like "younger cast" means they're going to be teenagers even if we're going to ignore the fact that BioWare said inexperienced and not young.

We'll still be combat trained, just not experienced which means if there is a canon age it should still place us early to mid 20s. Not teenagers.

It is a fear which has developed from something...maybe Twilight?  Of how people will make a cast into younger actors specifically to cater to a younger audience and have silly nonsense in it...like twilight.  I remember back in my Stargate watching days people would ****** about the upcoming Universe.  Because they were going through a similar thing.  Younger cast, untrained, untested, thrown into an impossible situation.  Actually I think Andromeda and SGU has a lot, and will have a lot in common.  Which I think can be nothing but a good thing, before SGU was murdered it was coming along quite nicely.

Well, academically, I'm barely more than a child, AND I CAN LEGALLY OWN A FIREARM, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

As a matter of fact, I own one Category D rifle, but I won't bore you with the law details, and just outright say that airsoft replicas qualify as Cat-D in my country.

I was about to start explaining the categories, but that's none of your interest, I presume.

(And no, let us not discuss the possible weapons ban in the EU, that's politics.)

but the crew was never said to be untrained, merely untested. That doesn't mean it's going to be Twilight in space.

The Tomb Raider reboot also features an untested Lara Croft, and that game was just fine on her age at 21.

Oooh I forgot about that game.  All the horrible times I murdered Lara over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, (and over), again.
