Nah, I'd like a different protagonist every game.

I want the trilogy regardless. Being able to transfer Shep across 3 games was the #1 incentive for me to stick around. I want the same with Ryder. Despite all flaws and underdelivered promises of choices & consequences, the transfer feature is still very unique in the industry, I'm honestly surprised it wasn't copied more. It's Mass Effect's trademark and should never be abandoned. 3 games for Ryder. Leave 1 protag per game to Dragon Age.

They can still transfer decisions between games without the same protagonist.

Which is a recipe for even more ignored choices knowing Bioware. Same protag at least keeps some of them

I'm almost certain they will make Andromeda a trilogy. Well, unless MEA completely flops and they decide to give up on the franchise but I doubt that'll happen. They're probably (and hopefully) already planning ahead and designing a cohesive overarching plot for the following games.

They didn't do that even when a Trilogy was planned from the get go. Ain't happening this time when they won't even commit to a trilogy for sure lol ![]()

I don't doubt there will be 2 more games, but I specifically want to transfer Ryder into them. Different protags in each game would be a major buzkill for me, removing Mass Effect's most unique feature across the industry

A new trilogy yeah sure

Dragon Age has been consistently coherent, whereas Mass Effect lost the thread in the first 10 minutes of the second game.
No, I don't want another trilogy. I want one-offs with different conflicts and different players that fit together into a larger picture.

They said that the game looks so good that they have a very high interest in doing it. I hope they do. For the sake of the fans. And a whole lot of books and comics, maybe shows.I don't doubt there will be 2 more games, but I specifically want to transfer Ryder into them. Nope, it still means complaints about ignored choices, or Bioware dealing with choices in the "wrong" way, or the "wrong" characters reappearing or getting the "wrong" amount of screentime compared to others. At least with the Dragon Age route, they are unconstrained by having to stick with the one character, having to cover every choice in the last game and introduce a new set of story beats, and they are free to explore different aspects of the game universe. If you think this game will introduce you to an intriging protagonist, why wouldn't you want to be introduced to (at least) two more?

What is with the trilogy obsession? The Mass Effect trilogy did not need to be a trilogy. ME2 was pointless.

True and this is why the first trilogy suffered from bad pacing and a controversial ending. They probably don't wanna commit to it in case MEA doesn't do well but I'm sure they have future games in mind. I just hope they've learned from past mistakes and plan more carefully this time.

Uhhh, have you played the Dragon Age games? They change the lore and tone from game to game.

Doing one-off games is a better approach than a trilogy. It allows the writers a lot more freedom to flesh out the setting, and a lot more space for creativity with the story. They don't have to worry about stretching one conflict out for three games (and subsequently degenerating into idiocy like ME does).
It makes introducing new characters in each game a lot more natural. Players expect new faces in each game, all the while expecting characters and relationships they know and love to make a return. You end up with a bloated cast of characters who don't get the attention and characterization they deserve. ME2 is the worst at this. The cast is about twice as big as it should have been, the characters are all undercooked, and barely any of them returned in any major capacity in the third game. A new game, with a new cast forming new relationships would do these characters justice far better.
Personally, I think one game, one big adventure, serves the protagonist better as well. It lets you close the book on their story definitively, without dragging them into increasingly outlandish scenarios. One nicely contained, well-told story.
Uhhh, have you played the Dragon Age games? They change the lore and tone from game to game.
Yep. I'll give you tone, but that's not what I'm talking about. The lore and the setting has been pretty consistent - and distinctively well thought out in addition. Certainly compared with ME.

No, I don't want a trilogy.
I want a standing, continuous series of slow burn games that chronicle the inevitable rise of humanity in the Andromeda Galaxy.
For me - any realistic story about this would take many more games than three.
But - since we'll have the meteoric rise of the MW races to prominence... I suppose three will do.

I think with some of the Ryder material released so far they are hinting at the intention to turn this into a trilogy. Game 1 the rise of Rider, Game 2 Rider becomes a legend and puts the skills to work, Game 3, profit.
