I liked it on the Volmercsent for quite a while. Got bloody sick of the ramp up when I got the hang of consistent double-cloaking though.

This is why the Volus Mercenary gets the Saber with me.

I'm gonna try every single weapon I have unlocked, make my decision which one I like the best and THEN post my favorite one out of all of them  <_<

True dat Mordokai, on PS3 you'll be dead if you turn your back on a phantom to shoot the Atlas in the face without RHA, like that at 1:00 minute. The master race can laugh at the console race because we're all noobs. The banshee mechanics is slightly different on PS3 compared to XBox, why should the phantoms and Atlas not also have minor differences? You can leave the Avenger at home and simply take a Shuriken to make a flawless run.

I don't think phantoms on PS3 are capable of shooting through the solid console that she had flipped behind after taking avenger fire, or firing on someone when they're staggered by a biotic explosion.

True Dat. When Nightman and Sinful discovered the Banshees jumps are different between PS3 and XBox, I've started to compare the differences. So maybe there are more minute differences.

For example see this (silhoutte of an) engineer shooting from the bottom stairs at 1:02. Our Valkyrie is Out in Open (no hard or soft cover) :

D5MbNji.png

and still at it at 1:03 :

nvc1JfQ.png

it seems Engie is missing because he doesn't even dent the shields. On a PS3 such an engineer mook never misses and hurts quite a bit on plat. To the right there is a phantom that took her kid to the nursery because she got disinterested. On PS3 she would be a persistent gnat, they are known to storm even while under fire.

So it is possible that there are other differences which we have not considered before between the different platforms.

That's an assault trooper, actually, and it does in fact hit -- you can see her barrier begin to drain and then instantly refill from the atlas within AF radius, and by that point she's retreated back behind cover anyway.  Phantoms retreat to cover to regen their barriers once they've taken significant damage regardless of platform.

There are differences between the platforms, but the PS3 having more aggressive and accurate AI is not one of them.

I don't think I have a favorite gun. Maybe the Typhoon? Just in general I prefer assault rifles more than any other class of weapon.

True, on the Assault trooper  hit and shields filling instanteously with Atlas in radius AF... that is a good explanation of that part.

On the phantoms always charging barriers first before continuing I'll check again tonight - but I remember them happily flipping even without barriers :

0:58 - Phantom gets dakka dakka but still have barriers on flip.

0:59 - Atlas get detontated

1:00 - Phantom in squad stance but without bubble raised.
1:02-1:04  - Phantom still in squad stance (the attempted warp on the Atlas hit the wall @ 1:03 and didn't detonate). The phantom goes into HardCover only at 1:05 - question is why she doesn't  storm and shoot concurrently from 1:02-1:05 even with zero barriers (in ps3 they don't wait for recharge, and usually bubbles up when aggrevated with power - and have full barrier after that).

1:19 - Two phantoms. Same story. One are stormed directly in the open, one on one, with both sides shooting, and the other one flips away and stands in the doorway together with a fully shield Atlas without shooting.

1:20 Valkyrie also stunned for 2 seconds,  but Atlas and Phantom in doorway justs waits

One possible explanation is that AF radius inhibits Phantoms to move on PC... will experiment tonight. Thx for the explanations thus far.

Phantoms don't always retreat behind cover when their barriers are dropped on either platform  -- in fact if they're in melee range they will keep advancing -- but they can be forced into it, which upon rewatch is more or less what happens in the video.

At 1:00 that phantom wasn't in her bubble stance, she was recovering from a stagger animation caused by being in the BE  radius prior to that. Techno shoots at the phantom, causing her to flip behind the console. The phantom actually continues shooting twice despite that, but has no line of sight and is eventually crowded out by the atlas (and dies in a BE).

At around 1:19 Techno only advances when one phantom has flipped behind the doorway after taking avenger fire. She gets melee'd just as she detonates a BE, which kills one phantom and staggers both the atlas and 2nd phantom.  During that enemy stagger window, Techno rotates her back to the wall (at an angle which makes it impossible for enemy crossfire to hit from their position) and retreats.

Supposed AI differences don't really factor into either sequence of events, it's more a matter of standard firebase white choke point control and attacking enemies in ways that limit the amount of aggro and control their movements, such as making one phantom flip behind a door before engaging the other and timing attacks to enemy stagger animations.  These are the same regardless of platform.

OT, My favorite weapon is still the Raider.

It's surprisingly solid for an entry level gun.

All of the commons are pretty good for what they are.

It's not fair to compare them to URs, however, they stand up pretty well to most other guns.

If Shuriken was full auto instead of burst fire, it would be insane for a a common (burst delay saves it from OP status)

Predator can be rapid fired, eventhough it is semi-auto, which helps in applying ammo.

Katana is a solid shotgun, I prefer it to the Scimitar and the Eviscerator, it's not until Claymore/Raider that it really gets competition.

Mantis is totally worthy on Gold, it may lack the base damage for OHK with body shots, however, a Phasic Headshot will still kill most things. Mantis X is pretty much the same as a Widow 1 (albeit, Widow Penetration makes it better, despite lesser ammo), but the Widow is one of the best guns in the game, so that's pretty good for a Common.

Avenger is light enough to slap on an Adept/Engineer with no weight problems (even without Passives), with a high enough fire-rate to reliably ammo ammo.

If you remember that they are Common, not Rare, they are all good guns. It takes about 20 hours to max commons, and all of them are usable on Gold. Mantis is even GOOD on Gold.

I've accidentally taken the mantis to platinum and had success with it, granted it was on a GI with phasic III and sniper amp III, but it worked out pretty ok even if it took 3 shots/headshots (I don't really remember) to kill a hunter. I even got to solo part of a wave with it, boy did banshees take forever.

I agree. Not everyone likes it but I've grown attached to it. And the Reeger too ofc which most people seems to dislike lol, if only I had the magazine clip upgrade for it and it would be more perfect imo.

I don't think I had ever seen the words "shuriken" and "good" in the same sentence without a negation somewhere in between.

Seriously, the shuriken is the worst piece of trash this game has to offer.

I mean, fucked up enemies notwithstanding.

I've dominated many times on platinum using that "piece of trash". The shuriken is the best gun in the game. You shouldn't talk trash about it simply because you don't know how to use it properly.

This has somehow become a "controversial opinions about the Shuriken" thread. Well then.

OT: I used the Venom for the first time today, and while it's not my absolute favorite, I think it's pretty fun. :)
