The Scimitar is lucky it can hold the Shotgun Omni-Blade, which is its only redeeming quality.  If not for that, I'd say Shuriken > Scimitar.

<< snip >>

The scimitar is honest to goodness tobacco fun. Lightweight and good purposed for close combat dodging - Especially on a power build, it helps to notch that last remaining armor/health.

Like applying the cherry on the cake.

Every Weapon has its unique personality that just cringes to be discovered.

Haha I was about to do that too last night but then the others kept saying "it's almost over, don't quit!!" And poor Mexx kept reviving me, very sweet of him even though it must have been really annoying for him that I kept dying but I couldn't get the damn gun to work properly :D

It didn't annoyed me. All of us have been new to this game once, i still remember dying nearly every wave in bronze and running away from banshees.

Just give it some time and u will get at the point where u will be able to hold ur own with a broad variety of guns and kits. ;)

Late to the party, I know but I just unlocked the Javelin.

Put it on my Tsent with geth scanner, piercing mod, high velocity barrel and AP ammo. I'm on Silver Dagger one-shotting guardians through the floor.

Much fun. Much OP

Much like gun!

Hey, I know what you're saying.  I have literally tried to find some way to have fun with every weapon on the game.  I will defend the Vindicator as being a fun and almost sometimes effective weapon.  But I have failed to find any redeeming quality about the Scimitar, other than as an Omni-Blade handle.

I have tried power-based builds.  I have tried weapon builds.  I have tried dropping down to Silver.  I have even tried it on the GI.  I just hate it.

I didn't use the Talon much at first and therefore didn't altogether care for it, then I slapped it on the AIU to complete points for Outsider Mastery, and it was a thing of beauty. I'm thinking about using it on the Fury once I give her another go. It's like a mini Wraith that you can mod for added power damage, so I'd really like to try it on some biotics. :)

I guess I'm not sure what's not to like about the Talon.  Here is a list of great things about the Talon:

1.  Can hold a +40% damage barrel, a magazine extension, a melee mod, and/or a power amp

2.  Can OSK a lot of enemies on Gold, even on a power-based class without any ammo equipped

3.  Can strip the shield/barrier from most Gold enemies in one body shot, and it actually does almost the exact same shield/barrier damage per shot as the Wraith (with 40% barrel on the Talon and 25% barrel on the Wraith)

4.  Suffers less from armor DR than normal shotguns, and Pistol piercing mod has better penetration distance than the Shotgun piercing mods

5.  Has a decent-sized magazine and good fire rate

6.  Doesn't require you to use a Shotgun Rail Amp

7.  You can use ADS and/or hard cover to increase your accuracy quite a lot

8.  Weighs only 0.6, so you can literally use it on any class and never worry about cooldowns

I had fun with the melee build N7 shadow infiltrator that needs low CD. Probab also requires a bit of style change on play for the character. Up close and personal.
And for lore purposes the valkyrie demands the scimitar ofc

Well the omni-blade vessel is what makes it great. That alone is redeeming. Compared to the other light omni shotguns, it is more forgiving for missed shots and can sport a surprisingly decent DPS. It also responds beautifully to the all-purpose weapon benefactor, marksman. Tighter spread in addition to noteworthy effects on rate of fire and thus DPS. That being said I rarely select it over the rrrrraidah or the graaaaaaaaal.

Disciple > Scimitar as an Omni-blade handle.  My biggest problem with the Scimitar is that you have to keep tracking moving enemies because it takes like 2-3 shots just to break the shield gate, and you won't usually stagger them without breaking shield gate.  The Disciple can stagger enemies while they still have their shields, making follow-up shots much easier.

Probably the Valiant.

It's the first commendation pack weapon I unlocked, and the first sniper rifle I actually got pretty good at.  When I started playing Gold, the SI and Valiant III were my main, go-to options.

Sure, it's not the most powerful or unique gun in the game.  But it's a solid gun that I have a bit of nostalgia for, so I think that has to be my choice.

Indeed. The disciple is better from a pure weapons focus but that does not make the scimitar useless. If you rely on melee to OHK mooks in omni blade mode, as I do, then the scimitar is useful for taking out bosses. Incendiary stacking takes it to a whole nother level. Too lazy to recheck the maths but I seem to reap better deeps from scimitars than disciples with melee builds. That could be L2P thing but regardless the scimitar has its role, at least for perpetual n00bazoids like me.

They got a fair number of things right in MEMP and gun variety is one of them.  Yeah they did have to go through the dreaded, but dang funny balance changes but they ended up with a very good variety of weapons of each class/type and very few obvious over kill choices.  The fact that some people swear by certain guns and others don't like the same gun is a good thing.

The other thing they did right was having challenges and objectives for each of these guns and ones that you had to use the weapon a lot.  Some of them were painful but in some cases you ended up saying to yourself, 'I can't believe I never gave this gun a chance before'!

Variety - sure, but a lot of the weapons are severely (and quickly) outclassed and some are so OP it's comical.

The Disciple's DPS is ~10% higher than the Scimitar's, no matter how you slice it.  And that difference in DPS is only going to be bigger once you consider armor DR, which is going to hit the Scimitar harder.  Incendiary stacking isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Also, if you're using the Disciple or Scimitar, you shouldn't be relying on your gun to take out bosses anyway.  If you're using a gun that light, it's because you want to spam your powers, and one would assume that you would therefore have some strong powers that you could use as your primary means of taking out bosses instead of relying on pea shooters.  If you don't need to spam powers, why are you using that gun in the first place?  Either take a Hurricane/BPP/CSMG/Eagle/etc. as a sidearm or just slap your Omni-Blade on the Raider or Piranha instead.

Yes, the Scimitar has a purpose.  It has two actually:  (1) to serve as a sword handle until you get the Disciple to a reasonably high level and then never again after that, and (2) to slowly drive me insane as I struggle to think of why Bioware designed such an terrible weapon that is rendered obsolete in every way.

And yet you can list any one of the awful outclassed weapons and you will have a host of people telling you why they are indeed pretty good.  There are very few that are really bad enough to be massive pain to use and the over powered ones are really a matter of opinion.  I see a lot of weapons listed as 'easy win, over powered cheese' and yet that only really applies if you are already a good player.  (Reegar is a classic example of this.)

Also in many cases it is actually a class that makes the gun they are using OP as much as the other way around.
